This is the opener to the album, and also the first single to be released by them. Personally, I don't see how it managed to draw people in because I think it is a pretty weak one, and it doens't really represent their Funk influences well enough to really take enough notice as something that different from what was aroudn at the time.

**Two Stars**
2. "Baby Appeal"
After a poor starter, they go directly into much much-improved work as you have the Rock stuff toned down greatly and the seventies feel of the bass-driven Funk is raised to the levels which attracted me to this record from the California band.
**Four Stars**
3. "Buckle Down"
This one seems to be prety representative of the album, not as an individual track in its own right, more to be able to draw all the telements of the album together come up with a great mash-up pf stlyes, which ultimately result in strong work from the band. I wouldn't say it's as good as what's about to come, but it shouldnt be overlooked.
**Three Stars**
4. "Get Up And Jump"
I just couldn't get over this one the first time I heard it as it realy shows that they know what is needed when it comes to high-energy Funk (especially when you hear the ay that Flea beats away at the bass) as the tempo is sped right up and they just get busy with it. It is a top groove, and the only thing which holds it back is the silly voclas from Kiedis, whihc may put you off at times.
**Five Stars**
5. "Why Don't You Love Me"
This one has them cover some material from Hank Wiliams, and they take the Country and Western song to a completely different place you hear the way in which you have them doing some Post-Funk guitaring which acknowledges the Golden Age of the genre, and builds on it with more modern views (mid-eighties as oppsed to seventies) of how the things sould be composed.
**Four Stars**
6. "Green Heaven"
The tempo of things is dropped for this recording, but the energy levels are still high as they conduct things behind the supprt of the wah-wah guitar (from Martinez). It all leads to them coming out with a bluesy track with an uplifting kick in the winding riff.
**Three Stars**
7. "Mommy, Where's Daddy?"
From the start of things track you know that you are in for a trest as you get the band coming together to get straight into some hardcore Funk. Flea comes foward in it too act as the secondary person within the narrative as they do a track which deals with very different issues to what is expected with such high-powered Funk support it.
**Four Stars**
8. "Out in L.A."
This is a quickly-delivered one from the band, and it has them seemingly settling int a desinctive appraoch to doing things as they take the best aspects of "Get Up And Jump", and control the livelines of it all with a much more structured track with lyrics whihc are actually able to contain the situation.
9. "Police Helicopter" (Lude)
10. "You Always Sing the Same" (Lude)
11. "Grand Pappy du Plenty" (Outro)
I have to say that it wasn't ordered too well with a pair of short recordings, fast-paced interludes leading up to a slow instrumental was the best way to end things, however the quality which is found in intermediate sections of it certainly keep you engaged. This album is largely built on Funk (unlike many of the later albums) and it may be a bit too alternate for some, but the fans of this fusion genre will find something worth a listen.
Advantages: Very entertaining Disadvantages: Not a lot of songs and its not as good as other albums
As many of you may have heard of the redhotchilipeppers I wonder how many have heard this album, probably not a lot. Well if you are a chilipepper fan and you've not got this album or if you were wondering if its worth the money, I will tell you all about it.
The album is not as good as the rest but it is a good start for the band. I think the album is good, though it didn't do very well when it was released because nobody had heard of it and it wasn't the kind of music people were used to. The reason I like it is because it is very funky, it has lots of great bass riffs, drum beats and the word are not to bad. The only thing I don't like about it is the guitar, its not very interesting and theirs not much of it. The bass seems to be the lead guitar. The guitarist was a replacement because the original moved to another band ...
Advantages: Soo Funky Disadvantages: Can see why they werent huge in the old days
When looking at this particular album for the redhotchilipeppers today, it is important to remember just how different the music was 20+ years ago, which is pretty much when this album came out (1984).
In a contemporary sense this album is not worth listening to, especially when compared to the much more modern 'Californication', 'By The Way' and 'Stadium Arcadium'.
However once listened to a few times this album works the old chilis magic and becomes much more appealing. If you are however, older than me and were perhaps a teenager when this album was out then then ignore the above as when it was released to you it was contemporary.
The whole genre of the album is pure funk, with Bass, drums and a rap style of lyrics dominating throughout.
heres a quick rundown of the songs on the album.

Advantages: Funky, fun and interesting for chili's fans Disadvantages: Shows its age, in places bland
THe Redhotchilipeppers are a modern phenomenon, racking up millions of sales worldwide with thier latest albums, By the Way and Californication.
But they have been around since this, thier first album realeased in 1984, and boy have they come a long way.
Before I start, I must say that I love this album. But I don't reccomend it. It shows its age, this is an album that doesn't deserve to be bought by the average listener. Songs are uninspired and dull. The guitarist and drummer are not the ones whom are actually members of the chilli's, and the recording suffers for it. The lyrics are banal and in places nosensical.
So why do I love it? Its fun.
These days many artists place integrity very highly. This album is written and recorded by a bunch of young maniacs best known for a gig where they played wearing nothing but ...
