...The essential R&B collection is a very good collection of love songs. they offer songs from various artists and while a few dont really qualify as love songs most of them really set up a romantic atmosphere. This CD is perfect for a candlelight dinner or any other special event you have for that special someone. It also has songs which are perfect if you want to ask a girl to a dance and need that song. However, be wary of the lyrics because many songs are ment for spouses rather than couples. Overall a very good CD. If you are looking for an extremely large amount of slow romantic songs than this collection definately delivers. I definately reccomend this CD.... Read review

...Pale dead moon in a sky streaked with grey Human kindness is overflowing And I think it's going to rain today" Going through track by track is not my style when I write record reviews and normally I would concentrate in giving an overall feel for the record while concentrating of favourite stand out tracks, well in this case it is difficult to pick any stand out track out since the quality of the music is so good. The more serious tone of the album is also broken up with bouncier instrumentals like 'Adella' and 'Reefer Madness'. 'Strange Fruit' is one of the few covers on the album. It is an adaptation of an old song recorded by Billie Holiday, which dealt with the lynching of blacks in the deep south of US. Madam Medusa does also deserve a separate mention. As I said it was originally a separate 12 inch single included with the main album... Read review

Advantages: Varied popular songs plus some obscure ones
Disadvantages: The obscure songs are probably not to everyones taste

...This is the second CD I have brought from this series, I find these CD's a general overview of the years music relating to well known tracks to some that are unknown to me. This therefore make is a very good album to listen to as you know what you are getting from some of the songs. artists like Sterophonics, Muse, Athlete, The Libertines and so on are well known and will appeal to the majority. There are however some more obscure songs bands like Client, Bees, which although are not to bad for my taste they may not appeal to everyone. On the whole I have found this to be a good album in my collection and one that I will listen to if I can not make up my mind. If you like the main popular songs on this album then I would recommend to have this in your collection.... Read review
