Advantages: Excellent covers of some old reggae standrads
Disadvantages: Sometimes a bit too slick

As a lover of real reggae I do have to make one minor criticism and that is that the album is too good. There is far more added production and professionalism to Labour Of Love. ...limited time available in the recording studios so the songs were often recorded in one take and were little better than demo tracks. What they lacked in production excellence they more than made up for in the immediacy and the urgency of the presentation. So where the old originals will regularly feature bum notes and missed intros the remakes by UB40 are clean and slick. Advantages: Great beats, great lyrics, brilliant songs - all hits
Disadvantages: Couple of songs not so hot

...on the album. 06 - Best Friend, good song, yet another chart hit, but just average compared to the rest of the album. 07 - Rankin Full Stop - this is the first song I heard by The Beat many years ago and is a brilliant ska beat. Should bring back lots of memories. 08 - Can't Get used To Losing You - one of their more main stream songs, brilliant love song, amazing how many can be done with ska and not feel wrong, great beat and vocal combo. 09 ...

...If you have the original Legend cd you will have some idea of what to expect, but be assured the added disc to this already brilliant album is well worth the £15.99 retail price. ...supposed to be deluxe but by the time you have had the discs in and out of the box a couple of times the edges fray and it look as if you have bought it for a quid from a car boot sale. The track listing comes on a piece of tracing paper loosely put inside the plastic sliding cover that slips onto the box (this contributes to the tattiness of the box) if you loose this you are a bit knackered! Now this album conflicts with itself slightly as before looking or knowing the tracks on the album you would expect a tougher more political album similar to survival.
