Review of Legend [Remastered] - Bob Marley by
paulhanton
Advantages: Pretty much the best of Bob Marley.
Disadvantages: A couple of his earlier tracks could have been included.
...and the first release of Legend was in 1984. 10 platinum albums later, having been on vinyl, cassette, and CD it remains the biggest selling album of it's genre (well I couldn't find any bigger) and arguably the greatest set of Marley songs on one album. The album was 'remastered' in 2002 and two more tracks from the original 14 were added; 'Easy Skanking', in my opinion a great addition, with some very cool lyrics, Marley at his laid back best, ... ...travesty to include this.
As there are 16 tracks I am going to dispense with my normal way of reviewing albums or there will be something approaching a dissertation, instead I will pick, in my opinion the top 3 tracks and tell you why.
~~~~~~~~~~**Track List**~~~~~~~~~~
1. Is This Love 2. No Woman, No Cry 3. Could You Be Loved 4. Three Little Birds 5. Buffalo Soldier 6. Get Up, Stand Up
7. Stir It Up 8. Easy Skanking 9. One Love/People Get Ready ...
Review of Dutty Rock (New Version) [PA] - Sean Paul by
cincea22
Advantages: great beats and songs willmake you dance
Disadvantages: none
Most on the songs on this album will have you dancing like just to name a couple "get busy", "Shake that thing" "gimme the light". These songs are songs that you can play at a party. He also has song love songs on his album "I'm still in love with you" and one of my favorites "baby boy" featuring beyonce. Sean paul is one of the best reggae artist and he has great lyrics and beats on this album. Sean paul is a artist that gets better with time and ...
good dancehall album
Review of Trinity, The - Sean Paul by
Bubba64
Advantages: A nice mix of hard and mellow dancehall tracks
Disadvantages: some of the songs on the album are older singles
This album contains a list of tracks that will definitely get the party going. When you plug this in you'll be listening to hit after hit. Its got a nice mix that will quench the taste of any reggae & dancehall fan, whether it be hardcore dancehall or soft reggae. There are some very good guest appearances on there, like the legendary Wayne Marshall and the sexy Nina Sky. Its just one of those records where you press play and just let it go. There ...
Loves Labours Lost
Review of Labour Of Love Vol.1 - UB40 by
polydeuces
Advantages: Excellent covers of some old reggae standrads
Disadvantages: Sometimes a bit too slick
...it must have been a labour of love can be heard in the loving way the songs are crafted and every track reproduces the excellence of the original. As a lover of real reggae I do have to make one minor criticism and that is that the album is too good. There is far more added production and professionalism to Labour Of Love. The original Jamaican reggae artists of the 1960s were usually poor and often recorded their songs on old second hand recording ... ...limited time available in the recording studios so the songs were often recorded in one take and were little better than demo tracks. What they lacked in production excellence they more than made up for in the immediacy and the urgency of the presentation. So where the old originals will regularly feature bum notes and missed intros the remakes by UB40 are clean and slick.
The album opens with the Eric Donaldson song Cherry Oh Baby which UB40 released ...
Brummie Reggae
Review of Signing Off - UB40 by
Mauri
Advantages: Great songs, great music, serious message
Disadvantages: Some of the songs have lost their context
...9. Little by Little
10. Signing Off
11. Madam Medusa
12. Strange Fruit
13. Reefer Madness
On the original vinyl the last three tracks Madam Medusa, Strange Fruit and Reefer Madness were included as an additional 12 inch single bonus record, on the CD all the tracks are obviously on the same disc and to some extent this distorts the balance of the music and album.
From the very start of the record the band leaves you in now doubt about the musical ... ..."Tyler is guilty the white judge has said so
What right do we have to say it's not so"
Although the themes of the song is the conviction of an innocent black man for murder by a racist court in Louisiana the sentiments that it was expressing tuned in to the feelings that existed in the UK too at the time. This was a period of police brutality, inflammatory 'Sus' laws, and increasingly oppressive race policies by the newly elected Tory government ...
