Advantages: Good music Disadvantages: A few weaker tracks
...- This regimentalmarch is played by the Band, Bugles and Pipes & Drums and is just another version of this song - one which is included on all the CDs and played at all the concerts. Im just used to it now, but at first, when I first heard it, it was amazing and is another of the best tracks on the CD.
16. Londonderry Air - This is played by a Brass Quintet and personally, in my opinion it is not a very good track at all. It is way too quiet in between the loud songs before and after and isnt very good at all.
17. The Path to Peace - This version has everyone playing and features the vocalist Karen Marsden. This tune was amazing when we played it at the concerts but once again on this CD it is awful, and that really, in my opinion, is all down to the words that are beign sung and the singer singing them. The singer really does not help...

Advantages: a brief but insightful overview of the band Disadvantages: no singleCD is big enough to fully show their genius
...style generated between the four permanent members was always the chosen approach. John Densmore was a jazz drummer with an unbeatable knack for shamanic rhythm and theatrical timing who had honed his skills originally in the regimented world of marchingbands. Advantages: A decent uptempo band, good lyrics and pretty catchy music Disadvantages: Won't appeal to anyone who isn't keen on the current Indie Rock scene
...for themselves. It was a time when bands like Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party and the Kaiser Chiefs were really taking the British music scene by storm and I personally felt that like Maximo Park, The Rakes offered something a little different to the rest.
As a band they have quite an upbeat sound and it can be likened to quite a few bands in the new wave of British Indie rock bands that are around at the moment. The sound of the band itself seems to be somewhere in between the likes of Franz Ferdinand etc and the more diverse sound of bands like The Libertines and The Others. The album has quite a raw sound to it and I think that's really what The Rakes were looking for. They haven't over produced it and tried to make it sound too polished, in fact they have tried to really capture the feeling of their live performance on the album and it works...
