When I first heard about the release of this CD, I knew I had to have it!
If you've listened to previous Rammstein albums or have watched the Mercedes Benz advert on TV, you'll know what I'm talking about when I describe the music as... powerful and emotive.
It seems to me that this album is a culmination of the knowledge the band have collected from their previous three albums. In fact, it almost seems same-y but that is no bad thing! The single, and first song on the album, Reise Reise, seems to be a follow up to "Seeman" from the first album but the anger, the passion, the butterflies in your tummy you get from listening is still there...
Megaherz are another German band who I think are great friends of Rammstein and they have also written and performed a song called "Ohne Dich" but that (sadly) is not the song on Reise Reise. It's still one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard though.
Amore is another beautiful track...it makes you fall in love again and again... with Rammstein (sorry Tom).
The one song i have a bit of problem with is Dalai Lama. Dalai Lama himself had a fear of flying and this song is about plane crashes... like I said...a bit raw. I think this is still a little too close to home after 911 but Rammstein do aim to shock.
Further to this, if one rewinds the CD, past 0 seconds to -35 seconds and then allow the CD to play, the "soundtrack" of a crashing plane's black box can be heard. I have only listened to this once and will not be listening to it again!
If you don't understand the obsession with planes and crashes yet, Ramstein (with one m) was the site of a major plane crash in northern Germany in the 1980s and Rammstein took their name from this.
Again, as with my other reviews of Rammstein, its so very hard to describe the feeling you get from listening to such wonderful pieces of music. If you like classical, rock or metal you're in for a treat...
It's worth the risk... if you want to try something new, this is the album for you!
