Basement Jaxx is comprised of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, a couple of local London lads that have a brilliant and innovative approach to their mixing and music making.
Rendez-vu is the start of a fantastic album. The whispered voice followed by the bass and guitar is uplifting and innovative. How can you resist the temptation to get up and dance?
There is a lot of Caribbean influences on Remedy, such as Jump N' Shout as well as Bingo Bango with its simple chorus, jazz piano, and Latin samba rhythms. Basement Jaxx get a lot of airplay in the UK and the US, but they have been a little too quiet up to now. I have heard rumours of a new album coming out this autumn…
Remedy contains some serious but highly accessible house music, but providing a refreshing change to the ‘lets all jump on the bandwagon’ approach by so many new house/garage etc bands. The thing with Basement Jaxx is that they have no predetermined style. They are out there doing what they do best and being innovative and expressive.
Go but it! And the preceding album wasn’t bad either!
