Reprise 1990-1999 - Vangelis

Advantages: great, brilliant and rambly - and that's just my review... :P
Disadvantages: none, honest.

...I think of TMWTE as the kind of thing Alice In Wonderland's Caterpillar would have as a theme song for his life? (am I being too odd in public again?) And then there's the real showstopper. The Cedar Room mixes all the classic Doves principles: blending sounds, extending and playing with musical patterns, melancholy lyrics and a touch of inexplicable brilliance. After that, the lovely instrumental Reprise and the odd and ever-so-slightly indie-sanctimonious A House kind of get forgotten as you come down from the thrill, but hey, who cares? Hey, do you think if I keep treating English like it's German by gluing words together with hyphens I'll end up with a review one day that has absolutely NO spaces? Advantages: An enlightening piece of music
Disadvantages: Quite dull in reflection; and possibly quite depressing.

...Back in the late 1980's and early 1990's I fell off the rails big time; a series of personal tragedies, failed business's and general hatred led me down a very dark path. One night having got drunk and smashed a window in the high street I was led by a gang of Weymouth's most prolific drug addicts to a squat; the plan was to get stoned and forget everything. (I'm not promoting the use of drugs, and actually with the exception of speed have led a drug free life) Upon entering this disgusting little squat I was greeted by a familiar piece of music. Advantages: Spacey Chill out music!
Disadvantages: a bit dated nowadays

...account for at least a part of this, because it is so distinctive. (Particularly when the date of its composition and recording are remembered). As the title of the book maybe implies to you, the story deals with the relationship between humanity and robotic "life" forms - as perceived by the author - Phillip K Dick. "- How human are robots"? He asks. Why am I talking about this in a review of the soundtrack? Because I believe that this informs the listener when hearing the music. These are abstract sounds of beauty. Digital sounds replace analogue "proper" musicians in all but one of the tracks - "One more kiss dear" which itself seems to be included in order to provide sharp contrast to the dehumanised world of Vangelis' haunting melodies.
