...Robert rich has been an innovator in the field of ambient music since the early 80's and has studied at Stanford's Center for Computer Research in music and Acoustics. A true pioneer also in dark , tribal trance music.Giving live performances in caves , planetariums, cathedrals , galleries etc. Including soundtrack music too. These two works first appeared on cassette and it's where i first heard them.These give a pretty good idea i suspect of what his so called all night sleep concerts must sound like. These are extrememly difficult to describe as they have such a unique and utterly mesmerising quality which really draws the listner into the minimilistic sonic soundscapes created. ...then kicking in with relentless drumming and bass playing with an amazing lead fuzz guitar. From this point on you are hooked into the a wall of sound that is impossible not to gain an emotive, visual and physical response. Cage Around the Sun also stands out as a classic, an very effectivley uses the quiet loud dynamic that has been credited as the invention of The Pixes. The cover of Hawkwinds Brainstorm is that rare cover version that is as good as the origonal. The album finishes off with Black Balloon which brings you back down to earth gently after the trip around the cosmos that this album takes you. whish after the trip that you have been on you really need think of it as a quiet spliff after a Monster acid trip and you sum up the song very nicley. Rarley do bands recover from such a creative peak but Monster Magnet managed to do so... Read review

If you've got a yearning for a trip down 80's boulevard complete with tea towel around your shoulders, this'll keep you happy for a while. That about wraps it up for now.
