Advantages: brilliant, diverse, and original and i got a DVD! Disadvantages: at times a bit too queen like.

Each album has been significantly different but adored by all their fans. The question is: can their latest album beat Black holes and revelations, or an even harder feat, Absolution?

Uprising
It is a good opener, with a resonably generic rhythm. It instantly shows existing fans that they have found a new sound. Matt Belemy (sp?) has clearly formed a bond with a few synthesisers, as the song features a Dr.Whoesque riff (if such a word exists) over all, musically the track is simple but catchy, and the lyrics are good, and if i had to compare it to older tracks i would say it bares a similarity with Butterfly's and ... more

The simple answer is yes... and no. So perhaps it is not that simple. Let us delve into what will become the ramble of a track by track overview.
Uprising It is a good opener, with a resonably generic rhythm. It instantly shows existing fans that they have found a new sound. Matt Belemy (sp?) has clearly formed a bond with a few synthesisers, as the song features a Dr.Whoesque riff (if such a word exists) over all, musically the track is simple but catchy, and the lyrics are good, and if i had to compare it to older tracks i would say it bares a similarity with Butterfly's and Hurricanes.
2 Resustance. This opens with a more dreamy effect and is generally calmer, but still shows Muse's new love for keyboards. It also features brilliant harmonies with the voice. I really enjoyed it, especially with the little piano riffs here and there, guitarists may be a little dissapointed. All in all i really enjoyed this track.
3 Undisclosed Desires. This is quite an odd track to begin with. The drums sound like something you'd hear blaring from poorly done up cars. However, along with this there is a riff that sounds as though it is being played on violins (could again be keyboards) in pizzicato, the harmonies and lyrics are great, and over all a very listenable track.
4 United States of Eurasia. Well, it turns out George Orwell's 1984 is more popular than i thought. I think this is a very good track, and somehow the worst of the album at the same time. I love the lyrics especially "united states of Eurasia You and me are the same we don't know or care who's to blame." To me this sounds as though they are getting a little political. I really enjoyed the piano ballad style opening too. The queen element however i dislike. I like queen, but there are sections that sound almost identical, down to the effect of the guitar which i didnt like, but hey others might. At the end of the track there is a piano solo that Chopin would be proud of, as it is very much in his style, which is nice and something different in the age of four chord progressions. yet there's something about the whole thing i just don't find to be as much to my liking.
5 Guiding light (this is turning out to be a long review) carrying directly on from its predecessor (or should do unless like me media player likes to mess with you) musically it is much more simplistic, melodically its a very nice and enjoyable song. The bass is a little basic, compared to other tracks but it works nicely in ths instance. It is a more guitar oriented tracks which may appeal to some more than others, vocals are as expected from muse. So with out much further ado.......
6 Unnatural Selection. Church organ opening. Enough said really. For those who want a little more, this is the most traditional muse tracks on the album, baring similarities with New Born. It's good, but in my opinion close to filler. its ok but easily forgettable.
7 MK Ultra. One of my favourite tracks, again more guitar orientated, and one of the more heavier tracks. There is little to fault about it, unless you wanted to be really picky and say it isnt as in keeping with the feel of the album.
8 I belong to you (+some french words i failed to type) the piano makes a return in this one, with a more jazzy track with a much more upbeat rhythm. Lyrically i didnt like this one as much as others, but it was very listenable and quite catchy. If not a little in your face, but is that not why we love muse? There were also several quieter bits featuring ornementation with the piano which mixed things up a bit.
9 Exogenesis: Symphony part 1 With words like Symphony in the title it would be a little unnecassary to say, it features a variety of string instruments. (Again could be keyboards in this day and age). The last three tracks are the best in my opinion, and sum up Muse's epicness (again, possibly a made up word) These are possibly the most original tracks pushing through the sea of generic rubbish that is and always has been floating around the music industry.
10Exogenesis: Symphony part 2 To begin with this shows Matt belemy's prowess on the piano, with a nice minute and a bit piano intro. This track does lose the strings a little, but not in a bad way, they come in and out, led by the piano in this instance. All in all it shows the remarkable talent the trio posess in both practicality and musical knowledge. my only criticism of this one is it is too short! i wanted more! which is much less a criticism than a compliment.
11 Exogenesis: part 3 all in all a pleasant end to an epic album. featuring strings and piano, in a piece that could almost make you forget that humanity is an ugly and destructive race. It is beautiful, its the only way to describe it. As a music A level student i wouldnt be surprised if this album is studied in the future instead of Sgt Peppers.
All in all the album is a brilliant creation baring very few faults, and those faults are easily forgotten. What's more is mine came with a DVD which i would comment about, only i havent yet watched it but its a bonus in itself. All Hail Muse!
Advantages: innovative, energetic, some excellent songs Disadvantages: Some slip ups, couple of weak songs
This is the fifth and new album from one of my favourite bands operating today, and was released in September of this year. One of the great things about Muse is their ability to adapt and change with each album, and whilst this album still has elements from previous albums such as the pomposity and classical influences this is certainly new and fresh. I feel that this album grows on you more than say absolution which has many immediately obviously ... ...however, and whilst there are obvious elements of heavy influence from bands like Queen and in some ways David Bowie is this a bad thing? I have included a review of a selection of the songs below. Uprising: This is a rather poppy song for muse, although it is very forceful and driven by excellent base and drumming as is so often the case with muse. There are some rather cheesy elements to the song, managing to sound rather sci-fi, but it is still ...

Advantages: Not to varied as they have done before and great variety! Disadvantages: the non classical listeners may not appreciate some of the tracks?
After a staggering amount of success with their fourth studio album 'black holes and revolutions' world dominating rockers 'MUSE' took time out away from their usual scene in Italy to record and produce their brand new 5th studio album titled 'The Resistance'. The album was recorded in 'Studio Belini' in Italy so the band could write with a fresh head and new surroundings, the album was released for purchase on the 14th september 2009. After the ... ...and 'Black Holes and Revelations', fans had no idea what to expect from this album, lead man Matthew Bellamy had said himself 'who knows what will come from it' during the writing stages. In my opinion i would say that this album is a big mix of the styles from all of their previous albums with a hint of a new sound! tracks such as 'unatural selection' have the sound of previous albums such as 'showbiz' where as the 3 track endings to the albums ...

Advantages: New and ground-breaking music from the ever diverse British band Muse. Disadvantages: Some are put off by the band's fluidity in trying new things. This album is a new thing.
The latest of Muse's five albums, The Resistance showcases yet another development through the history of this thoroughly original British band, and before it's release was originally speculated to be purely classical. Released on the 14th September 2009, the album reached no.1 in the UK Album Chart, equaling it's two predecessors, "Absolution" and "Black Holes and Revelations". Uprising: The first song on the album, this immediately opens out with ... ...to the lyrics, which immediately sets the scene for the album, with similar themes mirrored in their songs "Resistance", "United States of Eurasia" and "MK Ultra". Resistance: The wispy and ethereal start is accompanied by the rumble of thundering drums and a delicate piano solo. Quickly the traditional powerful vocals of Matt Bellamy come through accompanied by a repeating backing of "it could be wrong, could be wrong". In my opinion one of the ...

Advantages: Varied, Different, Special Disadvantages: Not consistant
It’s been a long time coming. 3 years since Black Holes and Revelations Muse have returned with The Resistance and with a weight of expectation that would crush lesser bands the Devon dwelling trio have found new strength, a new sound and new ways to rock your socks. From the outset with first single Uprising, the tone is set. The lyrics are heaving with paranoia and the crowd-pleasing, pounding beats set us up for a wild ride. Resistance tugs the ... ...the frantic drums of Dom Howard. As if it wasn’t clear enough from the opening track, Muse are back. Undisclosed Desires is the first sign of experimentation. The band sounds comfortable in the clearly unfamiliar territory of a song described cheekily as the “anti muse song”. It’s not as good as the previous two songs and is certainly a grower; in fact it grows within its own 4 minute length to become a solid album track. United States of Eurasia ...

Advantages: Much different to Black Holes and Revelations, MK ULTRA and Resistance are personal favourites. Disadvantages: A few weak links on the album
Muse have very quickly put themselves in the music hall of fame! From there debut album back in 1999 Showbiz, now 10 years later have continued their path of producing fantastic, adventurous music. This trio certainly have proved themselves with The Resistance. Taking Black Holes and Revelations one step further by adding aspects of albums like Origin of Symmetry, where Matt Belamy is acting as the main instrument of the band with electro beats, ... ...which have been rarely seen in a British male rock group. My favourite songs of the album are MK Ultra, Resistance and Undisclosed Desires, however i believe the album is slightly let down by United States of Eurasia, which is recognised for it's Queen like attributes, and Unnatural Selection which both seem to lack the beat and "umph" that Muse seem to carry through their music. I have particularly enjoyed off the album, which have been new to Muse, ...
