Advantages: Facscinating characters and a very unique story. Disadvantages: Not really a crime novel and there is a long narative filled with legal speak which is boring.
After reading Kirinos first translated novel "Out" I couldn't wait to get stuck into "Grotesque"!
I am a huge fan of everything Japanese, especially the dark side of Japanese culture and this novel addresses this perfectly. If you like what are refered to as "cult" novels you will enjoy this book. This isn't a light read. Its dark, disturbing and makes you question your own morality. If your a fan of Haruki Murakami's work then I think you will enjoy "Grotesque" also.
This novel comes under the "crime" category but the actual crimes commited (the murders of 2 prostitues) are merely the catalyst which allows the main character to tell her story. If your looking for gorey details of violent crimes and the like then your in the wrong place. This story isn't about finding the killer (we know all along who he is) and seeing him brought ...
Advantages: Some fantastic information Disadvantages: A little dry towards the end

Although I have mentioned that these books are primarily written for children I think that they are just as suitable for young adults as the vast amount of information in them is amazing and is told in a concise yet extremely informative way. I am 18 and have really enjoyed reading the books in this series. I found ...
Advantages: Good cast Disadvantages: Incomprehensible in places
I saw this film at the cinema recently. It is written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, directed by Michael Winterbottom and produced by Andrew Eaton.
Code 46 stars Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton and it is a sci-fi romance, mixed with film-noir elements.

Cities are over-crowded and they are guarded by high-security checkpoints. Without the right card - a "papelle" - people are left without anywhere to live or any real identity. The deserts are populated by people who have no ID. The card is basically ID and insurance and a Visa rolled into one. Code 46 is a law which prohibits people who have the same genes, even as little as a 25% match, from having ...
