I would like to speak to you about Rick Wakeman, the famous keyboard player of your country (i'm french !)
Little story of RW
The little Rick learns the piano in five years because his father is one very big soloist ! Years pass and the young man plays in the english group "YES" with the very good singer Jon Anderson !
Wakeman amazes everybody and all the criticisms. He decides to steal his own wings and composes for him.
In 1971, RW takes out his first album, alone in piano ! Three years after "Journey to the center of the earth" from Jules Verne. It's a world success ! Now, nobody can't stop him !
He composes more 50 albums in 20 years (studio, live and best of !)
But, EMI, the famous english société ask to Rick to compose a suite (25 years after !) and gives him all the means necessaire for there !
Return to the Center of the Earth
it's the first Rick's album i bought ! For me, 3 years after, it's THE MASTER PIECE ! His tubular bells !
Wakeman should invent a suite in the original story of the french writer ! He composes 22 tracks with a mixture of story and music. All the texts are read by the great american actor Patrick Stewart (star trek - the next generation).
For the songs, he calls Ozzy Osbourne, Bonny Tyler, Tony Mitchell, Justin Hayward and Katrina Leskanich !
For the music, Rick calls the famous "London Symphony Orchestra" and "the english chamber choir" and of course, RICK himself !
in conclusion, all the tracks are beautiful !
My favourite is "is anybody there" sung by the wonderful Bonny Tyler (Total eclipse of the heart in the 80's) because she has a bird's voice !
But the master piece, the title of this album is the last, the final ! "the end of the return" with all the classical musician and the keyboard of Rick ! Choirs, Orchestra with Wakeman make one big fire of happiness ! And the album is end !!!
Like Mike Oldfield with Tubular Bells, perharps RIck will made one third episode (but the TB3 is not very good, i think !) !
Now, Wakeman composes and composes (100 albums i believe !) he plays live alone with his keyboard and piano ! He lives with all the family in MAN (English's island !) and plays with Adam, his son, in concert !
RIck is rich very know in your country (not in France) and compose for his pleasure !
If you didn't know this great album, you miss one big of the 90's !!!
