On my first hearing of REM's latest offering I have to admit I was a little disappointed. However a few listenings later it became clear how truly beautiful and thought-provoking Reveal is.

Many have criticised the fact that it sounds very similar to the bands old works, but for me this is simply part of its charm. An 'Automatic for the people', only refreshingly modern and uplifting. An album telling of travel and adventure, yet at the same time filled with loneliness and longing, it is hard to resist.

For me the highlights are two wonderfully emotive tracks 'I've been high' and 'Disappear'. As always REM succeed in making their songs feel extremely personal, but at the same time including that much needed air of mystery to keep us guessing.

And as the album draws to a close the surprisingly sunny 'beachball' flows out lyrics such as 'This life is sweet, who knows who you might meet, you'll do fine'...reminding us that REM are back in full force, and darn happy we are about it!
