Advantages: Album bursting in energy, outstanding tracks outweigh the poor Disadvantages: Less than inspiring lyrics, album is far too short
Idlewild are another of those bands I first encountered at 2000's T In The Park music festival... on the main stage before the legend that is Iggy Pop, Idlewild somehow managed to steal the show, and are amongst, if not the finest live band I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Where they may be lacking in inspiration or originality, they more than make up in terms of fun. First, a bit of background on the band.. Idlewild are a rock/punk band hailing ... ...only 2 full length LPs along with the EP 'Captain'.. Although warmly received by the music press, they have for some reason failed to set the charts alight to date, though the signs are there that with the release of the new album early next year, they could hit the big time at last. Idlewild though are a band that focuses on the live experience of music, and have toured extensively over the last couple of years, especially in their home country. ...

Advantages: Broaching Majesty While Still Remaining Regal. Disadvantages: Unlikely To Topple The King Of Pop.
If you want to catch them before they are propelled skywards with all the speed of a particularly well armed firework then now is the time. Forging to greater heights with each new release Scotland's Idlewild are in the throes of becoming as important as anything that America can come up with at the moment. Taking their name from the hiding place in the 'Anne Of Green Gables' book this is a foursome that have the wherewithal to flabbergast. '100 ... ...at least a dozen compilation tape favourites. It was released 2 years ago in April 2000 and with the release of their 3rd long player ('The Remote Part') it is a joy to recall its grandness. One of the album's singles 'Little Discourage' opens the noise fest with a crafty confidence. While it had minimal impact sales wise its classy internal streamlined guitar displays highlight a maturity that was often lacking in their gorgeously ebullient debut ...

Advantages: An excellent new direction from the first album Disadvantages: Might have lost some fans of that first album
...band Idlewild. Released in 2000, 100 Broken Windows is by far my favourite album the band have released to date. It was recorded during a time when they still weren't sure which direction to follow. Having returned home to Edinburgh to record their second studio album they opted to take a slightly mellower direction than the first album. Gone was the distortion and heavy guitar riffs to be replaced with a slightly slower and more considered approach. ... ...all of the subsequent albums and the one that really made the band. While the debut album Hope Is Important had a more punk rock feel to it, this album seemed to really highlight what Idlewild could really do best. There are some very well considered and well presented guitar riffs on this album that give it a far mellower and more relaxing sound. Instead of following the same path as the debut album the change seems to have given the band a way ...

Advantages: No bad songs Disadvantages: er a better inlay is all i can think of, perhaps a bit longer
Idlewilds first couple of albums were excleent becasue of they energy and the power of the songs, they were perhaps a bit raw and some of the lyrics were a bit ropey but this is definetly a much more polished album and is their best work to date. However they have managed to maintain the enrgy that made them so exciting in the first place but made them a band that you really had to see live to get, and they are the best live band around at the moment. ... ...sound much better to record.
The start of the album is very hard hitting fast paced punk rock, but with tunes. "Discourage" is amazing and the pace is kept up and there are no bad tracks on the whole album and there could have been any number of singles off it. it covers a number of topics as well, living in remote places "I dont have the map" and even Getrude Stein "Roseability".
The end of the album shows another side to the band only really ...

...the charts. Likewise their albums. 100 Broken Windows is their third album, second long player. The singles they have released include Actually its Darkness, These Wooden Ideas and most recently Rosability. Idlewild’s singles are good, but I think that it is the collection of the singles that makes the album, not the singles on their own. The album’s singles are mainly started off with a few single plucks of the main guitar, then followed in with ... ...and energetic. The album is not ridden with angst like Muse for example, mainly because the lyrics are not too great. The album is really one of good music, rather than inspiring lyrics. Idea Track doesn’t really have any comprehensible lyrics, and it is clear that this was literally an idea track, with those lyrics plastered around some great music. Saying that, Idea Track is one of my favourite tracks on the album along with the more thoughtful ...

100 Broken windows sounds like the old Idlewild only better, mow they can play and sing as well as write amazing songs. These wooden ideas is probably the best track but the rest is not too far behind. if you liked the first album I think that you will love this one. I’ve heard most of the album live as well on a Steve Lamaque session, it was amazing, if you get the opportunity to see them live then I really do think you go, they also have really ...

Advantages: Uplifting, inspiring music. Disadvantages: Not enough tracks!
I purchased 100 Broken Windows after hearing the tracks "Actually It's Darkness" and "Discourage" on the radio. This is one of the few albums on which I enjoyed every track the first time i heard them. They all have an instant appeal that continues to grow with every play.
In comparison with their previous LP "Hope Is Important" this album has a more mature sound and isn’t as heavy or noisy as "Hope Is Important" yet it keeps the upbeat feel of ...

Advantages: powerful songs, more lyrical than 'hope is important' Disadvantages: not very groundbreaking
The scottish band have returned after 'hope is important', with the new album '100 broken windows'. This is a fuller more musical album than hope, this is not to say it they have lost any of their power, they have merely reached a new level musically.
The album opens to the crashing 'little discourage', starting as they mean to go on, with the exception of a few tracks, the album presents the listener with a powerful often aggresive wall of sound.

Review of 100 Broken Windows - Idlewild
Advantages: Loud album. Infectious hard edged indie tunes Disadvantages: Album could do with 1 or 2 more tracks.
Bought this album earlier in the year on the strength of hearing just one of the singles "Roseability". I was really pleased with it and still am playing this one all the time. There are no really weak tracks on the CD, but I do have some favourites including "Roseability", "Idea Track" and "Mistake Pageant". You may have heard these if you listen to The Evening Session which is on Radio 1 in the evenings. Hard to describe the style of the band, ... ...slower but still with an edge (does that make sense??!!) As some one else said on Ciao, their tunes are infectious. The band are a four piece from Edinburgh (I think!) and consist of Vocals, bass, drums and guitar. I intend to get their 1st album soon - called "Hope is Important" and I reckon I'll try and pick up some of the singles too! ...

I first saw and heard Idlewild when they supported Ash on their UK tour back in 1998. Idlewild were fantastic that night! I never bought either of their earlier albums but when I saw this one for only £10 I had to get it. Especially after I heard the singles fron the album. There are 12 tracks on the album, yet it is only 38 minutes long. These short songs work to Idlewild's benefit as you are given just enough to leave you keen for more! I did find ...

ALERT ALERT Classic album from the Scot Rockers. Idlewild obviously knew that this phenomenal album would result in the shattering of a century of the best double glazined panes in the land. First of all I expected a few punk/grunge melodies but I was proved wrong because Idlewild have evolved into a pop/punk group with tunes the size Mohamed Al Fayed's bank balance. Lead singer Roddy Woomble, armed with Morrisey-esque quiff, gives a dazzling lyrical ...

...band. Top Top Top band. 100 Broken Windows is Idlewild's most mature work yet, it's just disappointing that this hasnt translated into the chart success this little Scottish band truly deserve. There is a song for everyone. Mild indie rock for the Oasis/Ocean Colour Scene/Travis people with Let Me Sleep (next to the mirror). For the people who appreciate fast moving, quick guitarring, nice drumming there's the opening 3 songs, including the album ... ...two songs, are nice, I really like the closer, Bronze Medal. In between the songs are generally heavy drumming, hard guitarring, singalong tunes, apart from the quirky Idea Track, my second favourite. Sometimes the lyrics just dont make sense, and there are a few guitarring errors, but as a whole, a mature, well produced, well written album. ...

100 Broken Windows by Idlewild is their third album and was released this year on Food records. This is the only album I have heard of Idlewild’s and it was a bit of a let down although impressive in places. It sounds like it should be their first album and if it was then you would say better luck next time. This album contains lots of songs that could maybe are a little lack lustre such as ‘Let me sleep (next to the mirror)’and ‘Roseability’. ...I brought, at full price 100 Broken Windows as soon as it came out, before I’d read any reviews and completely on impulse. I was pleasantly surprised (again) when I listened to it and discovered a wealth of musical talent in the band. To the casual listener, it may all seem fairly ordinary and similar, but the melding of instruments in near perfect synchronisation has fused the barrier between punk and rock to create one of the most well rounded ... ...privilege of seeing Idlewild live at the Glastonbury festival, and they were amazing. Music is not about a small, round sliver of plastic; it is an art form, it is about creating and performing so that people enjoy themselves, so it’s your own preference that matters.
