Abbey Road - Beatles (The)

To round off this Beatlemania month, I wanted to try and justify exactly why ‘Abbey Road’ is one of the very best albums that The Beatles ever made. Although, like with most of my favourite albums, such as Placebo’s ‘Without You I’m Nothing’, ‘Abbey Road’ didn’t instantly strike me as outstanding, perhaps because I was too bowled over by the cheery ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ soundtrack, one of the other Beatles albums I received for Christmas last year. ...

Abbey Road, released on September 26, 1969, was the last album recorded by the Beatles, and although Let It Be hit the shelves in 1970, that album was recorded before Abbey Road. ...Low Standards ah-hoy! Abbey Road is the last album the Beatles recorded together though not the last released, as thus it seems to show signs of the deterioration of the relationships in the band. John Lennon in particular appears to have totally lost interest in the band. ...George Harrison, whose contributions to Abbey Road, "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun", prove that he could match Lennon and McCartney as a songwriter, if not quite as a prolific songwriter. Like the Beatles themselves, Abbey Road is flawed but fabulous. "Abbey Road" was the Beatles' final recording, the last time all four Fabs got together in the studio, the final nail in the coffin, so to speak.
