Advantages: Typical Muse Disadvantages: One weak track
...released in 1999. Although Absolution received bad reviews, stating Muse have lost their charm and remodelled themselves to make their music more commercial, I disagree. It was inevitable after the all the anticipation Absolution would be met with some apprehension and I do admit some of the tracks do seem more commercial than that on Showbiz or on their second release Origin of Symmetry. However that doesn’t necessarily mean that a band has suddenly ... ...rock to their fullest! Absolution as an album which constantly contradicts itself, on one song there will be heavy distorted guitar riffs and in the next soft calm acoustic guitar. Many bands cannot achieve the contrasts of songs so well, in my opinion it is something that comes naturally to Muse, and this is probably why this album is suited to not only heavy rock fans, but fans of music as a whole. If you buy this album just because you like the ...

Advantages: Epic rock songs, intelligent song writing Disadvantages: Extremely experimental
...that Muse have produced with Absolution is very much an artifact of their own abstract talent. Never has an album cover name been more appropriate. This is absolution. Muse have blossomed over the last couple of years. They've been on the circuits for a relatively long time, but as performers in their mid twenties, we can hopefully look forward to bigger and better things. That said, the band will have considerable difficulty producing anything that ... ...Perhaps a fitting sign. While Absolution may not quite fit in to the realms of biblical folklore, it certainly is a once in a lifetime experience.
Apocalypse Please - ( Declare this an emergency / Come on and spread a sense of urgency ) - 7.5/10
The sound of a marching army grows louder and Bellamy blasts us in to the stratosphere with the drumming of his toy piano. "This is the end." he screams before the album has even finished it's first track. ...

Advantages: Grandiose magic. Simply sublime. Disadvantages: Tad commercial, it's no 'Origin of Symmetry'!
After the flawless masterpiece 'Origin of Symmetry', Muse could do anything. Matt Bellamy created schizophrenic brilliance time after time, his voice and instrumental ability beyond reproach. Both the album, and 'Origin...' b-sides were just superbly arrogant and twisted, passionate and tormented, but most of all original and inspired.
Muse decided to draw on their past on this album. It's a funny record. About half of the tracks (Stockholm Syndrome, ... ...are unlike any previous Muse songs, and blaze a trail with their uniqueness and power, while others (Hysteria, The small print, Thoughts of a dying atheist, Butterflies and hurricanes), no matter how good, seem like extensions of previous Muse work. This is not necessarily a criticism, but for such an incredible band, you may expect something totally different.
No matter, the album itself is just great. It seems a tad like a concept album, but is ...

Advantages: The best album of the first three a real turning point for Muse as a band Disadvantages: None, unless of course you don't like them....
...the charts. The release of Absolution would be the moment the Devon three piece would really hit the big time. A year in the making, absolution wasn't just going to be another album and the band intended it to be the next step in their musical journey. Having been tipped as the next Radiohead, Muse were certainly trying to evolve and enhance their sound and it meant that like the album before it, this album would be an improvement on the last. With ... ...something in it, but with Absolution they seems to destroy that theory with some particularly stunning tracks. Throughout the album there are tracks like "Hysteria" and "Stockholm Syndrome" that really show how far Bellamy's vocals have come from that debut album. His vocals seem to have improved with each album to the point where, his vocals seem to blend majestically into the songs. It's an album that really signalled the intent of what was to ...

Advantages: The songs all vary a lot Disadvantages: Won't appeal to everyone
I first heard about this band about 8 months ago when I heard Bliss on Kerrang. I didn't like it at first but it slowly grew on me. By the time I heard that they had a new album coming out, I quite Bliss so decided to go out and buy it. At first I had doubts about whether or not I would like it but form the moment I started playing it, I was hooked.
For all of you who are unaware, Muse are a three piece from Devon. Their music is best described ... ...three albums so far: Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry and the one I am currently writing about, Absolution.
The album starts off with 'Intro' which starts off with the sound of a marching army getting louder and louder. Then, all of the sudden, crashing pianos come in for the start of 'Apocalypse Please' it is a heavy track which still manages to include some operatic elements - a sign of things to come. "This is the end of the world" Matt roars during ...

Advantages: Excellent, loud, bouncy, mixed styles Disadvantages: Takes a couple of listens to get into it
...music.
The new album, Absolution just goes to prove how much noise they can make, and how mixed their style is.
As everything is quiet in the house, I will stick it on the CD player and go through it for you. (Quiet never lasts long here!)
******************
Opens with a quick Intro, which has drums marching us strait into the second track Apocalypse Please. A heavy piano thumper of a track all about the end of the world. First time I heard it ... ...100% sure.
Sing For Absolution is next, with a more gentle start on piano, but like most Muse songs soon starts getting louder, but not a lot, until it gets near the end. For a Muse ballad it is good, but they will never match Unintended for quality. I am not saying this is a bad track, it is great, just not as good Unintended! Stockholm Syndrome is a fast starter. Or in other words what I would call a bouncy track. Very reminiscent of Cave, the ...

Advantages: Nice step forward, fantastic music, some excellent songs and hardly a duff track here Disadvantages: Can understand why some people dont get Muse
With each of their previous albums Muse have gone some way to prove again and again how they are improving and their undeniable talents. This their third proper album, ‘Absolution’ has gone a long way to really put the Devon band at the top of the music word, in terms of commercial success, critical acclaim and popularity all they way down. Advantages: Great variance, superb tracks, brilliant instrument work. Disadvantages: Too short!
...With an interesting sleeve design, Absolution is one of the best albums in my collection. From "Apocalypse Please" to “Ruled By Secrecy”, Absolution is an album that will tingle your senses.

Advantages: Some great tracks, Disadvantages: Not a huge progression
...Anyway I’d say Absolution is not a huge leap forward in sound for Muse but it’s a definite progression in terms of music. They’re using a great deal more instruments and experimentation on this record. There are some great songs, perhaps there aren’t as many good singles on this album but that’s no bad thing. Advantages: HEART WARMING ROCK! Disadvantages: NOT ENOUGH SONGS!
I first learnt about Muse when i was watching the good old music channels and saw their video 'Time is running out' on Q. When i had finished watching and listening to their video i was curious to find out more about them and when i did i was very suprised that they had been around for a while! Whilst learning about this rockband i found out that they have three albums out with their first being 'Showbiz'. Advantages: Overall bulk of album is excellent, Piano, guitars, vocals, drums all excellent! Top class musicians. Disadvantages: couple of songs that arent quite up to par with the rest of the album.
...idea of whats to come, Absolution does this perfectly. First off theres a little 20 odd second intro which is some sort of war march, classic marching drum beat here. But what it leads onto is far far better. The first song of the album is 'APOCALYPSE PLEASE' and I give dull credit to Muse for being able to incorporate Piano into rock music so well. Absolution was their third UK album release, and by far their best. The album begins with an intrlude of trudging, marching feet, but what follows is far from mundane, with 'Apocalypse Please' bursting through the speakers, Matt declaring that 'this is the end of the world'.

Absolution is the 2003 album by Muse. It is massively acclaimed, winning the 21st best album ever by NME, and I have to agree! Muse are an English rock band with an alternative feel to their music, and this is what drew me to them and their music. This IS a rock album, but it's like nothing I've heard before or since. The whole thing is totally new, and that's because of a few key elements: 1) Matthew Bellamy's voice. This guy has an abnormality ... ...of this, he can sing in falsetto and vibrato (very high), which creates an almost space age, alien sounding music. 2) Solid guitar - the guitar and bass on this album are some of the best ever. Incredibly complex lead guitar can be found throughout, and the basslines are heavy and complex too. The fast paced music energy of the tracks never devolves into hard-rock noise, but stays musical the whole way through. 3) The piano work - these guys are ...

Advantages: Every track is unique, loads of vairety, awesome vocals and lyrics Disadvantages: Some songs won't appeal to everyone
...song. Sing For Absolution was the 4th single to be released from this album. After 2 really dark tracks, this one is more cheery, and is a wonderful ballad.
Stockholm Syndrome was the 1st single to be released from this album. It's a very upbeat song with an awesome catchy riff. Another dark song, with more lyrics about things ending - 'this is the last time I'll abandon you'. One of my favourites.
Falling Away With You is one of the underrated ... ...upbeat. It's so beautiful.
Then there is a little 35 second interlude of beautiful noise which is kind of an extended intro to the next track Hysteria, the 3rd single from this album, which is a heavy rock piece, a fan favourite and certainly one of the best on the album.
Blackout is a soft ballad in 6/8 and is beautiful, but I think it's a bit overrated. Not one of the best on the album, but an awesome track nevertheless.
Then it's the big epic, ...
