Advantages: An album worth owning, though not his strongest. Disadvantages: A couple of really forgettable tracks.
---JAMES BLUNT- All THE LOST SOULS---
After a three year gap Ex Army Captain, James Blunt brought out his long awaited second album 'All the Lost Souls' in September 2007. This was the follow up to his hugely successful debut album 'Back to Bedlam' which came out in 2004. James Blunt was a refreshing change on the music scene and he was to music in 2004, what Damien Rice was in 2003. James Blunt has his own unique style of Folk/Rock. He is a balladeer ... ...to my dismay. Airplay is all important, and if you are not flavour of the month, it can make or break an artist's release...
I wasn't quite sure if I liked Blunts single,'1973'when I first heard it and was I worried that the album would not live up to his excellent first album, 'Back to Bedlam'. The track '1973' was a nostalgic ditty and one I found didn't sit well, nor did I believe in, as James Blunt himself was not even born then. Nonetheless ...

...entertainment aisle and discovered that All the Lost Souls was their album of the week (usually the only one they have which you would buy since the others are more expensive than you'd find in most other shops) for just £6.99 it was time to buy it.
Ihave to say I dont like the cover art at all, and if I didnt already know the artist would find it very off putting, so there was some trepidation as I put this in to my car CD player as I set off for ... ...As with his first album All the Lost Sould has only 10 tracks on it, giving it a more limited potential for singles than many recent albums but equally has left it with no room for the ubiquitous filler tracks whos quality is poor and drag an album down overall.
People have said its a different style to Back to Bedlam, something which while I wouldnt entirely disagree with I wont say is a marked change, the songs are all constructed with good melodies ...

...year and not long after, All the Lost Souls arrived in my mailbox, thanks to my Amazon vouchers. I put it in my CD player and it has rarely been out since. I listen to it while I'm wide awake and on the computer and while I'm relaxing in the bedroom in the evening. So, what do I think to it? I decided to use a track-by-track method of reviewing, with an overview at the end.
REVIEW
1) 1973
This was the first (and so far only) single release from ... ...don't follow the charts at all now, so had no idea if it was successful or not until I had a look today. The song appears to be about love and nostalgia, remembering good times and all the emotions that accompany those memories. It is a very catchy tune, though quite a complex song. Catchy songs usually seem to be equated with vapid cheesy pop and although I do love vapid cheesy pop as well, Blunt is more rooted in the old tradition of the singer-songwriter ...

...Can't Hear the Music
All of the tracks are great and there are no weak links on this album. The music does vary with there being a mix of fast songs and also some ballads. My personal favourite on this album is Carry You Home as I have seen the video and after watching it the song has much more meaning for me and my hubby. I believe he has earned the right to have the army theme for the video and being shown carrying his dead friends dog tags back ... ...pure and genuine emotion in all of his songs which makes me want to listen to him even more. I have to admit that I was not expecting this to be a CD which my hubby was after as he did not strike me as a fan of James Blunt but after he said he was only after it for the song Carry you Home I decided to buy it for him. He is now enjoying the entire CD and glad that he has found all the other tracks to be just as good as his favourite. My brother in ...

Advantages: An Excellent Album With Great Re-playability Disadvantages: None.
...has his second album out; All The Lost Souls. His debut album, Back To Bedlam, was something new and refreshing and certainly got people's heads turning on both sides of the Atlantic. James Blunt, with his song "You're Beautiful" was the first Brit to be number 1 in America since Elton John did Candle In The Wind in memory of princess Diana. So, that's a tough thing to beat; number one in both the UK and the US. Can he make another album that could ... ...can; and he has!
All The Lost Souls is an excellent album. I had mixed feelings when i was about to press "Play" for the first time on this new CD. While I wanted to like it as much as I liked Back To Bedlam, I didn't want to get my hopes up; so often these days the more albums a signer or band brings out, the less effort seems to have been put in to it. I can honestly say that I was FAR from disappointed. Each song was fresh and original with subtle ...

(2) One of the brightest stars
(3) I'll take everything
(4) Same Mistake
(5 ) Carry you home
(6) Give me some love

Tracks: My favourite song of this album is 1973. I also love One of the Brightest stars, I'll take everything, same mistake, carry you home, I really want you, shine on, annie and if I can't hear the music. The song of the album that I wasnt particularly mad on was Give me some love. It is a good track but compared to the rest of the ...

Advantages: A lot of differentiation compared to the previous album, some upbeat songs. Disadvantages: Still a reasonable amount of similarity.
All The Lost Souls is the new album from James Blunt, the artist who burst onto the sceens with the classic, 'You're Beautiful' in 2004.
That album was one of the best selling albums of that year and I've no doubt that this will do the same.
In the new album, he has experimented with the sound a lot more than in the debut album, with a much wider range of sounds and lyrics in the songs. Compared with the first album where many songs sounded very ... ...guitar part was identical, this album offers the listener a much more differential sound.
His first single, 1973, is much more upbeat than his original stuff, with a very catchy tune to it. Yet he is still able to offer that classical, laid back style like 'Goodbye My Lover' in the new song 'Annie'.
'Carry You Home' gives listeners the same guitar tune as 'High' off the first album, yet with a much more distinct sound as the guiter is much more ...

...before bringing the album out. All the songs are dark and depressing like his first album, but I just can't get enough of it. It's brilliant to sing along to! My recommendation is to buy this as soon as you can...Before it sells out as this is definetly going to be a number one album.

...enchanting, but hold great meaning. All his songs on this, and his previous album, Back to Bedlam, are presented with passion in his voice, and able to transport the listener into the world of the singer. 1973 is a brilliant track, closely followed by 'I'll carry you home'. Having said that the whole album is one which one has to listen to throughout. Every track is a must to listen to. The lyrics hold much greater meaning than one first appreciates. ... ...this latest contribution, and there is more to come, I am sure, from this very talented artist. His past life, before entering the music business is also worth looking into and perhaps gives some insight into his motivation and inspiration. Did you know he used to be in the army? ...mean more then one thing. All of his songs have layers to them and every one of them makes you think. He may only have one theme to his songs but when you listen to them you get the impression of a man who has had and lost love and in the most tragic way with certain songs giving the impression of a lover dying. His unique voice and his song writing abilitys make him the greatest British singer songwriter of our time in my opinion. The only negatives ... ...version of Wild World which he played at live earth and the cover reminds me of the cover of the Cantamus album. If you can spare 10 quid i'd definatly advise you to go and buy this album because you can spend hours listening to it and afterwards you'll find your much more relaxed. ...second album from James Blunt. All the Lost Souls is a very good response to his brilliant first album; Back to Bedlam. Advantages: better than his first abulm, excellent lyrics Disadvantages: Artwork is a bit strange
All the lost souls is the second albulm from James Blunt and personally I find it better then his first albulm.
When I first heard of James blunt and purchased his first albulm 'Back to Bedlum' I thought that with tracks like Your Beuitiful, Wise Men and So Long Jimmy, that it would be dam near imposible to produce songs that where as good as those.
However I have gladly been proved wrong by this fantastic artist, with his long awaited new albulm ... ...as good as his previous ones the are better, this albulm is a step above the rest for me.
with songs like 1973, I'll Take Everything and Same Mistake have taken James Blunts music to a new level.
This albulm is truel one that you will never get tired of listening to, and i'm sure as he releases some of them as singles he will have a few more number 1's on both the Uk and abroad.
The only thing that lets the albulm down is the strange artwork but ...
