...do not make sense, and Amnesiac certainly does not make sense. I aim to prove that by making the electronic wibblings on this record, Mr. Yorke may have made a record so terrible that even the Stereophonics would have difficulty plumbing these depths of despairingly bad music." The change from the spooky sounding verses to the reassuring chorus is a lovely sequence I feel." "I call my second witness to the stand. Mr. Divine Cheese. ...to find very little on Amnesiac that will change their minds that Radiohead have completely lost the plot. Those who saw Kid A as a brave step into new territories where anything is sonically possible will embrace Amnesiac with open hands and minds.
The rumours surrounding Amnesiac were mainly centred on the fact that it was going to be the logical follow up to OK Computer with Radiohead switching the emphasis back towards a more guitar orientated ... ...the rumours were misguiding as Amnesiac sees Radiohead continuing their journey into experimentation with only the smallest concessions to the sounds they produced on OK Computer. Guitars are scarce in their appearance with the concentration aagain placed on more electronic and computer generated sound.
Amnesiac begins with the sound of metallic percussion and a deep electronic bass line of 'Packt like Sardines in a crushd tin box'. These elements ...

Advantages: Sheer brilliance from the greatest band of our time - a ground-breaking, flawless, beautiful masterpiece. Disadvantages: None. Honest.
...people. Contrary to pre-release rumours, Amnesiac does not become much more mainstream (although admittedly, some tracks eg Knives Out are far more commercial than anything on Kid A). Indeed, although traditional instruments are used a lot more, there’s some stuff on Amnesiac that makes Kid A’s title track sound like S Club 7.
Before I review the tracks, an interesting piece of trivia: the songs are in chronological order of composition: ... ...he says that some of Amnesiac sounds like “broken machinery” – this track especially. I hate comparing artists in reviews unless something is blatantly ripped off (see Muse), but to give you an idea of what this sounds like, think of Canadian band “Board of Canada”. Although you probably won’t have heard them. Think of Kid A’s title track, make it twice as weird and very angry. This one will probably have ...

...The limited edition CD of Amnesiac is housed within a false library book, and along with the stamped dates of the near future and past (26 Jun 1996 up to 07 Oct 2005) there is a note that simply says, "This book is to be hidden", but from what? My theory suggests that it is hidden from the unknown force, or the all controlling government. This album might be hinting on what conspiracy theorists have believed for the last few years. The lyrics, however ... ...guitar since Kid A then Amnesiac may offer a small solution, as there is more of a feeling of guitars on this album, but it's certainly not the answer to your problem. In the middle of Amnesiac are Knives Out and Dollars & Cents and could easily have been on OK Computer, the styles aren't that much different. I do, however, feel that although they will always have such great songs as Creep, Street Spirit, Lucky, Karma ...

Advantages: some excellent tracks, atmospheric, Disadvantages: Too many peverse experimental moments
...From here on in Amnesiac proceeds to take us on a slightly messy tour through Radiohead’s back catalogue. ‘Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors’ evokes memories of ‘Kid A’ at its most perverse, a bizarre slowed down dance track, with unintelligible vocals and little melody to speak of. Whilst ‘You and Whose Army’, ‘Knives Out’ and ‘I Might Be Wrong’ are dark bluesy guitar numbers. Of the three ... ...with Thom’s vocal sounding rather like its being played on an old gramophone, building to an epic swirling climax. ‘Knives Out’ is perhaps the albums biggest disappointment, sounding rather like an Ok Computer out take. Its almost certain to be a single however, as it is the closest thing to Radiohead’s traditional sound here. ‘I Might Be Wrong’ reminds of ‘Optimistic’, Kid A’s sole concession ...

...Radiohead. Quite a bit of Amnesiac shouldn't even have the Radiohead brand. There are few guitar moments and a lot of the time Thom Yorke's wonderful voice is distorted beyond recognition. The album was recorded at the same studio sessions that produced 'Kid A' and in reality, Amnesiac is the sequel to that mixed up affair. Where Radiohead could have developed on that tatty mess and produced something more worthwhile they instead opt for an altogether ... ...plethora of creative guitar waves. Amnesiac arrived on cue but I'm afraid for the most part it is an exercise in ordinariness. From the word go something is amiss. 'Packt Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box' could easily be a cut from a chilled out trance album. Why Radiohead would ever wish to outdo someone like Ferry Corsten is beyond me. Are they simply bored by their musical roots, are they trying to cash in on the dance craze, have they completely ...

RADIOHEAD | AMNESIAC | 11TRACKS :: SIMILAR ARTISTS * Aphex Twin / Underworld After Radiohead shocked the world with Kid A, the experiment with electronic music, they return with a second CD of music from the same sessions as Kid A. Unfortunately, there seems to be a little less thought about Amnesiac, and that is shown by some of the tracks which, in my opinion are mixed. Tracks like the Pyramid Song, Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box and Knives ... ...to accept the music. And, Amnesiac can only be like that. If you read the cover notes "These recordings where (? shouldn't it be were) made on location at the same time as Kid A", you will notice that they remain the previous strange fusion of electro-rock. Kid A was a suprising success in both the UK and USA, reaching high in to the charts. The music on Kid A, and on Amnesiac would be enough to drive your average N'Sync-er to tears and beyonds. ...

Advantages: Probably the best release for 2001 Disadvantages: A couple of weak tracks before the end
Before we begin this review, I would like to announce that I have some good news as well as some bad news. First the good news: “Amnesiac” sees Radiohead delivering an album with a more commercially friendly sound than they did with “Kid A”. The bad news: still no sing-along choruses from Thom and co.

...be the Kid A of Amnesiac and doesn't succeed very well. At least with Kid A, it seemed to have some sort of tune to it, while this seems slightly thrown together. Luckily though, I've seen a lot worse fillers than this.
You And Whose Army is about politics and the Labour party and so on. But you want to hear about the song itself! I can't blame you because this is one of the highlights of the album. With distorted vocals (again) and excellent lyrics, ... ...A vital member of the Amnesiac family.
Right, I suppose I should say my opinion on Hunting Bears. WHAT THE HELL IS IT?!? It's basically 2.01 minutes of guitar, nothing else. I wouldn't mind, but it's not like a cool solo or anything, it's just slow guitar. I don't mind it, but it certainly ain't brilliant.

Advantages: Brilliant album Disadvantages: Has a few "difficult" songs
...recently, you'll have seen that Amnesiac was said to be the more restrained songs that didn't go on to Kid A. While this can be said to be true for most of the songs on the album, there are a few tracks which knock Kid A's experimentality into next week.
If you're looking for classic Radiohead, Amnesiac will definitely not disappoint. You may have heard Pyramid song - the first single - on the radio recently. It's definitely more in the classic ... ...asked why it appeared on Amnesiac too, Thom said that it was completely different from how it was on Kid A, and they felt it deserved to go on. Well evidently so since it's the album's title track.
This version is much more relaxed, and missing Phil's excellent off-beat drumming, but as with the other songs, it has grown on me, and stands out as a great song in its own right.

Advantages: Music that affects the soul Disadvantages: Can make you miserable
After hearing the last album, "Kid A", I was expecting this album to be more of the same; strange, very experimental stuff; after all, it proudly says in the book that the recordings were made "on location at the same time as Kid A". However, if you're more a fan of the earlier albums then you should still be happy with "Amnesiac". Although musically it's still a bit out there, every track on the album is a real song. Many of the songs are less guitar ... ...still a few, such as 'I Might Be Wrong'. The album appears to be, basically, the missing link between "O.K. Computer" and "Kid A" but it's rather unfair to say it's a mix of the two; just as all of the other albums were separate entities in their own right, "Amnesiac" has its own flavour that isn't found on the other albums. The first single released from the album was "Pyramid Song", the second track on the CD, but don't expect all the songs to ...

What a strange album this is. It's not a follow up to Kid A, they told us, neither was it outtakes from that session (yeah right) but it should be seen as a "companion" to that famous experimental sound where Radiohead left the guitars at home and moved to a techno-based sound at the turn of the millenium.
It's difficult for me to review this as an album in its own right, because to your humble writer it strikes me as a band arsing aimlessly about ... ...huge that EMI won't really mind what the end result is. Kid A had gone to No 1 on the US albums chart and practically set the band up for life so there was no danger of this being rejected by the suits.
The trouble is, I like records with "songs", and there are not many of those on this one. It's basically the boys twiddling knobs and playing with things in the studio to make some noise. I can't think of any better explanation. Leave it to the poncey ...

...is not a review of Amnesiac in particular, but is more about the progression in Radiohead's music from their earlier albums to their latest releases, Kid A and Amnesiac.
Now that's out the way, I can begin! I recently watched Radiohead perform live on Jools Holland, which prompted me to write this opinion. They played a mixture of new and old material, and whilst I enjoyed listening to the songs from the new albums I felt that the older songs that ... ...certainly hope it isn't!
Amnesiac was recorded at the same time as Kid A, and is in much the same vein. It seems slightly more accessible than its predecessor, and I'm sure it will grow on you the more you listen. I found this with Kid A, but it is still something of a struggle to bring myself to listen to it. ...artwork in the sleeve. Amnesiac is the sister of Kid A, but it is not by any means exactly the same.
It begins with what sounds like rattling tin cans on the back of the car of newly-weds, Pact Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box sounds like the child of Idioteque’s strange drums and discordant vocals and the keyboards of Kid A’s opener, Everything In It’s Right Place. The music is mixed with Thom Yorke’s wonderful ability ... ...telling indeed.
Morning Bell Amnesiac will create much debate in music circles. Is it better than the original version? Why did they do two versions at all? Does it show a lack of invention? In order I have to say "yes", "because they sound very different" and "no". The fact that they could turn the disjointedness of the original into this MPS sound-a-like shows real invention. It almost has an easy-listening vibe to it.
