Advantages: beautiful album with excellent lyrics Disadvantages: they deserve a lot more publicity
...to the album, and what an album it is. I would definitely rate it up there with such bands as Muse, Coldplay and Embrace all of which I really enjoy listening to.
There is something strangely hypnotic about the album, I don't know if it's to do with the excellent lyrics, the sound of the instruments or the deep meaningful voice of lead singer Tom Smith. But every time I listen to this album I seem to drift away from all life's little problems and ... ...thinking that never before has an album made me feel like this for an extremely long time. We all need an album like this in our collections for those days when we just need to chill and remember how great life really is.

Advantages: Lyrically strong and musically very promising. Disadvantages: It just isnt as great as their first album.Songs start firey but fizzle out too soon.
With their brilliant debut album The Back Room, it was clear that Editor's had the musical gravitas to craft another equelly compelling second album. But in my opinion, they didn't. For those of you that haven't heard Editor's then their sound is something like Interpol (vocally) and are definitely neo-post-punk musically. Guitars surge at the beginning of most songs aiming for something breathtakingly brilliant...trouble is that they never quite ... ...slump after the initial promise they offer. The lyrics are still thought provoking and moody, delivered perfectly by the direct and edgy vocals and the music is definitely better than most bands of a similar genre but for me it just doesn't quite cut the mustard. Especially when I am certain that this band could do so much better. But having said that, I am uncertain that most fans will agree with that. I think most people will be ok with this album, ...

Advantages: Great guitar work once again. Epic at times Disadvantages: Can't shake off those comparisons
...up with their sophomore effort, An End Has A Start.
If you take that album title into consideration before listening to the record, you might think that Editors have taken a positive leap out of the murky puddles they have previously been stuck in. One listen of lead single and album opener Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors will send that thought cowering away. “Say goodbye to everyone you’ve ever known/You are never going to see them again” sings ... ...is the general affair on An End Has A Start.
As I did earlier mention, Editors have sparked a lot of comparisons, and have at times been written off as copyists. Unfortunately for Editors, these claims are not a far cry from the truth. Present are Interpol’s rhythms, present are Coldplay’s church choirs and there is definitely a strong resemblance of Morrissey’s voice in Smith. Then again, there could hardly be anything wrong with taking a little ...

Advantages: Not overlong at 10 tracks, gets better with each listen. Disadvantages: Opening track not the strongest.
All the best records take a few listens (at least) to reveal their true nature. On first play this sounded like a typical 2nd album - longer tracks, less up-tempo. A month on this has to be my favourite CD of 2007. Nearly all the 10 tracks have resolved into fantastic, atmospheric (and not always gloomy!) tales of urban life and escape. Great tunes underpin the songs, with the now-trademark steepling guitar riffs standing out most in the choruses. ... ...found in the lyrics, most obviously in the title track, but tracks like Weight of the World and Escape The Nest are really uplifting, the latter also containing the finest moments on the album with its soaring, thrilling chorus. What a live track that promises to be... Recommended!
Ok then, what about the digipak? Well if you like a glossy cardboard cover that's a bit too tall to fit into a CD rack then its for you! To be honest, I'd have preferred ...

Advantages: good album - very easy to listen to Disadvantages: very similar in style to the back room
...is a good song and an excellent choice for a single. The lyrics are very dark and meaningful, but he tune itself moves along nicely and the chorus is catchy enough to stop it from being too depressing. The other tracks on the album follow the same pattern, and arguably the same patter as the first album, Editors have not changed their sound at all for this latest offering, but why change something that works? Overall I enjoyed the first album and ... ...listen too as background music. Maybe it could be argued that the style isn't sophisticated compared to other bands or that they havent developed their sound at all from the first album, but in my opinion all that matters is that I enjoy listening to it and every time I put it on it still sounds great. Recommended :) ...

Advantages: Plenty of solid tracks with some substance and style Disadvantages: Avoid some of the slower tracks
...'An End Has a Start' an album of depth that will become a favourite on your gramophone!
Unlike the other comments on this site, I think the album does show some progress on their debut, and the sound is a little more mature. Perhaps one criticism is that the slower songs are not in the same league as some of the 'rockier' tracks but that's not to say that they are weak. I put the CD in the car six weeks ago and I'm still listening t o it solidly ...
