This collaboration of musical geniuses produced a fantastic album of ambience in 1983. The geniuses in question are Brian Eno, Roger Eno and Daniel Lanois. Brian Eno, whom everybody may know from Roxy Music, has written, produced and collaborated with lots of bands e.g. U2, David Bowie, Ultravox, Talking Heads to name but a few. Yet he is still relatively unknown, I think due to the fact that he is in the background and not the foreground.
I must ... ...due to the huge output he has produced, but I have heard enough to comment that he is the man that put the 'A' in ambience.
Apollo, was originally written for the 'Apollo Missions to the moon' film, directed by Al Reinhart. Eno was trying to capture the feelings, emptiness, vastness of space travel both from a subjective and objective view. It has 12 tracks, with each track trying to convey what it is like in space 1.
