Arena [Remastered] - Duran Duran

...Remarkably quite good still. Arena was recorded on their sell out world tour of 1983/4 and features live versions of their biggest hits and most popular album tracks. Simon's voice is quite whingey in a good sort of way and you're never more than a couple of bars away from a synth prod or stab of slap bass. This album is 20 years old this year and giving it a spin (I'm listening to it on vinyl) after all the these years is making me quite misty-eyed. ...

...the time is Duran Duran. Arena is a selection of live recordings from the groups concerts and consist of tracks from 3 of the bands album releases "Duran Duran" "Rio" and "Seven & the ragged tiger" the only albums the group had released before Arena was put together. It also features the new track, or at least it was new at the time of release back in '84, "wild boys" The track listing is as follows- 1-Is there something I should know 2-Hungry ...
...6-The seventh stranger 7-The chauffer 8-Union of the snake 9-Planet earth 10-Careless memories Unfortunately despite the album being recorded live it is not compiled in the order of a live concert and tracks appear as separate recordings, this somewhat breaks up the flow of the album and prevents you getting the feeling of having "been there" which I think is essential in a live album. This album was released back in 1984. All of the tracks are live recordings but for one which was 'Wild Boys'. Which was when Simon has his husky vocal chords, and VERY nice too!!!!!! The album was great for me as it brought all the feelings of actually being there and seeing the greatest band perform. This was the first album that my mum and dad ever bought me and I thought it was brilliant, nearly 20 years later and I have it on CD and I still listen to it, It takes me back to the 2nd year of high school when, if you didn't like Duran Duran then your were some kind of Geek. The songs are all different from one another and the playability it fantastic, obviously if I am still listening to it so many years on. Music in the 80's is the best sounds ...
...nowadays and most of the songs are copies of the things we used to listen to back then. They are doing a tour in Manchester next week, it is a sell out and I still think that the older songs are much better than the ones they are bringing out today. ...

back in 1984 duran were one of the only uk bands to have ever made it big in america and were without doubt one of the biggest bands on the planet. Ok they were five good looking blokes, but there was a lot more to duran then just looks. Duran made decent catchy pop tunes, that you could not only sing along to, but they would find a way to stay with you. Duran showed you that there was an escape and music was the way. there are some great tunes here ...
