...to it always brings me back to going down to France on a bus on my birthday with all of my friends and I had this song on repeat. I brought the album a day before, just because of this song. It's a beautiful song, and what makes it has to be Blunt's amazing lyrics and of course his powerful and emotion filled voice. This song is very over played though and I know a lot of people got sick of it after a while, I myself didn't. Memorable Lyrics: "My ... ...great shame as this album, Back To Bedlam is just pure brilliance. There are no songs that are painful to listen to, all of them have everything a good album should have. A pretty fantastic album and well worth buying. ===The Voice===
James has a very unique voice, one that you'll always know it's him singing a song. His voice will not appeal to everyone, his voice was actually crowned the most annoying voice of the year or something as I heard ...

...doors for this current trend back to the mighty Paul Simon, the seminal Jeff Buckley and beyond, I sure if you had the time and inclination it would be possible to spring board from artist to artist back through time to the medieval troubadours of medieval France and the wandering bards of the Dark Ages and still be on a common thread. But back to the present. Blunt is one of a plethora of one-man shows that are currently in vogue. David Gray, as ... ...contrast is a smoother laid back affair, bass and keyboards build a wash of sound for the words to dance over and listening to this as I write, it has just struck me that Blunts voice reminds me of a younger Rod Stewart, and that's no bad thing. Since Scotland's prodigal child sold out and became a housewives choice making second-rate crooner albums, there is a gap in the market, and Blunt cold just fill a part of that.
Haunting sounds lead into ...

Advantages: Song writing talent, great voice even when singing live, a real talent Disadvantages: The poor man's Damien Rice? and getting too mainstream
...A nice pretty song, going back to happier music! A nice acoustic guitar and keyboard opening with the entry of James Blunt's vocals a little later. The song has some more clever lyrics with the mention of Dorian Gray, a character in the Oscar Wilde novel, "The Picture of Dorian Gray". In which Dorian Gray, an extremely handsome young man, feels handsome when compared to a portrait of himself, but due to many corrupt events, grows to feel ugly even ... ...run far, far away; find comfort in pain, all pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble. Hides my true shape, like Dorian Gray. I've heard what they say, but I'm not here for trouble."
The song is extremely upbeat, and quite happy especially when the bass and drums are added for the second verse. The song also has some beautiful lyrics again.

Advantages: The vocals of James Blunt are always excellent, instrumentally the album has much to offer. Disadvantages: Some may be put off by the mans high vocal style.
'Back to Bedlam' is the first album from singer-songwriter James Blunt, a 2004 release consisting of ten terrific tracks. This is folk rock at its finest I feel, the former British Army Captain certainly put to record an excellent album here and constructed a fine thirty nine minutes of music. 'Back to Bedlam' was voted 'worst album of the year' by the New Musical Express magazine, what do they know though; over 2.3 million copies of the album were ... ...right from the offset the album is here hugely impressive. 'High' is without doubt one of my favourite tracks from this album, all ten of them are strong but this is one that most certainly captured my imagination right from the very first time that I heard it. The chorus to the track is absolutely excellent, always the voice of James Blunt is well put across here and never does the music disappoint. The guitar sounds constructed in the music are ...

...out to run off the back of this one. Careful lyrical content and a love of his craft makes this an album of excellence and not one track let the album down as a whole. I think James Blunt takes a lot of stick. I'm not too sure why. Perhaps it is seen as 'not cool' to admit to liking him. Whatever, I definitely recommend this album if you like honesty and truth from your lyrics. The musical arrangements are quite understated, allowing the lyrical ...

...late to turn the clock back no matter what. The lyrics are trying to say in this song as far as I know, that think before you do anything otherwise you could end up paying a big price for not thinking, then having nothing left at the end of it all. This has a great tune and is another one of James' great songs upon this album.
Once he was a lover sleeping with another.
Now he's just known as a cheat.
And he wish he'd had a mirror; looked a little ... ...Sorrow becomes his soul mate.
The damage is done. The prodigal son is too late.
Old doors are closed but he's always open,
To relive time in his mind.
Oh Billy.

This is such a sad song to be able to see the lyrics in front of your eyes, and you don't really understand the whole entire song until you write some of the lyrics down. This is all about being a friend to someone when they need you there, to celebrate with them, to comfort them ...

Advantages: Great tracks, talented musician/singer/writer, relaxing music. Disadvantages: A bit samey in tempo
...I got an Amazon voucher, Back To Bedlam went into the cart and this time, I have it ripped onto my computer as well. Ha!
My fifteen year old's favourite track is Goodbye My Lover, which one of her friends performed at a school concert recently. I still love You're Beautiful but another album track I would pick out is Tears and Rain, which is also a really beautiful, haunting piece. I liked it the first time I heard it, it seemed to stand out.
There ... ...If you wanted to criticise Back To Bedlam, you could say it is all a similar pace throughout, as it contains many ballad-like songs. So Long, Jimmy is a faster track, but by no means rocky or particularly danceable. My son (almost fourteen) and husband don't like James Blunt though. Whenever I am playing the CD, they complain about it although when I asked my son exactly why he doesn't like him, he just said "He's annoying." Overall, I am very happy ...

...be James Blunt's debut album, Back To Bedlam. James recently out of the army released the album off the back of the hit single "You're Beautiful". While his debut single was played to death by the likes of Radio 1, I decided to buy his album and find out if James was a one hit wonder on an artist here to stay. For me avoiding the radio as much as possible has meant that I can still appreciate his first single and likewise the rest of the album as ... ...guitar and a gentle drum back beat. The vocals also add to the track and it comes across as a relaxing track with a lot of soul and feeling behind it.
I did mention a few weaker tracks, but that's not to say they are bad songs. For instance I would actually consider You're Beautiful to be one of the weaker songs on the album, but it has got the hook and gives a nice taster of what James is all about. It's towards the end that I felt the album started ...

..."High". It's a laid back pop ballad, with Blunt's vocals over the top. It starts off as if it's going to be an acoustic number, but soon expands into something that is a little more indie-pop. This combination of indie-pop with a soaring vocal over the top is reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, although Blunt's vocals aren't quite as smooth or as impressive as Buckley's.
The first single from the album was "You're Beautiful" and if you've seen the album ... ...efforts, but it's a laid back down-tempo pop track, although the vocals aren't quite as soaring this time around. This is one of my personal favourites on the album

**********
The debut album, Back To Bedlam has 10 fantastic songs. The album starts off with 'High', a great song, very relaxing to listen to. You could put it on after a hard day at work and just drift away. High is not a very up tempo song, but then in my opinion, none of the songs on the album are. Just simple guitar, piano and James Blunt's unmistakable vocal style, you could not dance to any of the tracks, but you can sure as hell sing ... ...is the now famous 'You're beautiful', the song that made me notice him, but not the best song on the album. It's a nice song, but even though I'm a self confessed sucker for a ballad/love song, I do find the lyrics just a tad sickly - " You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true. I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do, 'Cause I'll never be with you."

...in a film based back in the 1950s, where the mother is sitting at a piano with all her children round her, teasching them how to play.
The lyrics of the song are ok, as is the song itself, I think that is probably why I have got such a vivid imagination and tried to give it a set.
Erm, another weak link for me, so that's probably why it is last...again nothing much to say, other than it is dominated by a piano and at some bits it can become quite ... ...and the piano is the only thing that makes it worth listening to for me!
Again, I will inlcude some lyrics but not majorly impressed with this song.
"There are children standing here,
Arms outstretched into the sky,
But no one asks the question why,
He has been here.
Old men kneel and accept their fate.
Wives and daughters cut and raped.
A generation drenched in hate.
Yes, he has been here."
