Advantages: Breaking Balls! Disadvantages: Same Old Formula!
Good old ACDC do it again with their unbeaten formula of soft build up to release yet another barrage of catchy rock 'n' roll tunes with their unmistakable sound. Released in 1995 it was the first studio album in five years since The Razors Edge in 1990 and how we had missed them. The return of the excellent drummer Phil Ruddafter his bust up with Malcolm Young was also long awaited. The album was also produced by Ric Rubin of Cult and Metallica ... ...weeks into the U.S. tour, four gigs were cancelled so that Brian Johnson could attend his father's funeral. During the tour, MTV cartoon characters Beavis and Butthead also appeared in the intro during concerts as well. Five of the songs were played live, 'Hard As a Rock', 'Boogie Man', 'Cover You In Oil', 'Hail Caesar', and 'Ballbreaker'.The first song gives you this red meat served with the usual horse radish and chips, just simply 'Hard as a Rock'. ...

Advantages: Back on form Disadvantages: Not quite a classic
At last a new AC/DC album after five long years (apart from the excellent live releases of course), fifty minutes of classic 'DC music with a classic 'DC line-up, now that drummer Phil Rudd has come to his senses and rejoined the best band in the world (not being too biased here am I?). The surprise choice of producer Rick Rubin has resisted the temptation to play silly buggers, and simply allowed the simple hard driving, rock solid boogie beat of ... ...some rather fine "Marvel" comic artwork adorning the insert - what more could you want?
"Hard As A Rock" - the sound of the first few gentle notes on the bass guitar is all it takes to let you know that this is AC/DC. In fact, as soon as I first heard it - unannounced - on the radio a few weeks before the album's release, I cried "that's Acca Dacca!". There is no messing about lyrically, as you would expect, and it only takes until the third line ...
