=== Battle For The Sun - 5.33 ===
*** 3 Stars..
This song was infact the first offering we received from Placebo to a hint about what this album may have been like, and I have to say in the first few listening I was not best impressed with the song, mainly because it just went on forever, some songs should be lengthy.. This one I don’t think so.. It has some incredibly repetitive lyrics, and Molko’s voice gets right on my nerves because ...

Advantages: The title track is a big hitter, great to see them still in action Disadvantages: Very patchy quality, just not classic Placebo
Placebo are a defiantly odd band, and always have been, sitting somewhere between flamboyant glam and angry punk posturing. Surfing in on the tail end of Britpop, they've defied the music press by remaining a going concern for six albums and about fifteen years. Probably, if we're being completely honest, because they've never raised their heads far enough above the parapet of popular culture to burn out like Oasis does every couple of years.
Boasting ... ...vocals of Brian 'sex pixie' Molko, the band is, in the best tradition of UK middleweight rock groups, huge in Europe, and famous for generating publicity through spats with other bands. One of the most notorious being their run-in with Limp Biskit during a South American tour.
But anyway. _Battle For the Sun_. Sixth album, any good? Well, that depends on your point of view, really. It's an enjoyable enough piece of music, but does it match the heights ...

Advantages: A nice change to a great sounding band. Disadvantages: Will take a bit to get used to.
...any Placebo album. '''3. Battle for the Sun''' The title track for the album sees the tempo and pace of the album slow right down to start with however as the song progresses the guitar and drums start to build back up in pace and strength. Once again the song does have a much more overall heavier feel to it. I found this to one of the songs that I managed to get in to straight away and has very quickly become a firm favourite of mine. '''4. For ... ...the album that I heard as the single for it was released sometime before the actual albums release and it soon became the most listened to track on my iTunes. The song is a pure Placebo sounding track but has been enhanced by the addition of a much fuller sounding backing track to it. Despite the fact that this is the song that I have listened to most on the album it still sounds fresh each time and makes me want to jump about each and every time. ...

...anyone. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track 3. Battle for the sun 05:35 This is the title track of course . I love how the lyrics in the verses are sung. As you will see the first and last words of each sentence of the verse are repeated-As the beat picks up getting more into the song the vocals are sung in a way that kind of impersonates an echo and I really like how the ... ...''I ,I ........ will battle for the sun ,sun, sun '' ''and I,I....I won't stop until i'm done, done ,done'' ''you ,you ,you ..are getting in the way, way, way'' ''and I,I,I ..have nothing left to say, say, say,'' This song has a great build up to the end of the track . starting right in the middle of the track is where you get a taste of whats to come .It really gets into your head by the time the last minute is upon you ,I guess one might describe it ...

Advantages: Some good tracks, the mixing up of the style gives the album some originality Disadvantages: Inconsistent quality, the album as a whole doesn't flow very well.
...which is good to see. Battle For The Sun is their sixth album, and is one that perhaps shows the most significant varying of their style to date. Certainly on reflection this was a bit of a risk, and if you want to know whether or not that risk has paid off, I suggest you read on. TRACKLIST 1. Kitty Litter (3/5) Odd title, but a very familiar start in terms of how this song pans out. I know I just said that this album is an attempt by Placebo to ... ...to come. 3. Battle For The Sun (2/5) The title track, but one that honestly got me very worried about this album, because after a promising opening couple of tracks this one goes down hill. The thing is, if you take the individual components of this song, they are fine by themselves. The problem is that they do not come together at all. The lyrics are repetitive, and a lot of the song is just a chore to listen to. Listening is something instinctive ...

...a bad way. == Battle for the Sun == So I haven't heard Battle for the Sun yet. I have low hopes considering that as far as I'm concerned, Placebo's best days are behind them, they had a great run in a time that was suited to them... I'm not sure they really _fit_ in the 'alternative' charts at the moment. Still, I hear they have brought in some trumpets.... and despite my not hearing anything about it until this moment, it has reached no. 8 in the ... ...frankly, if the British public are already buying this, I might need this review to save them. === Track Listing === I'm going to try to review them one by one... I don't really do music reviews, so you'll have to bear with me when I don't know what I'm talking about... which might be always. '''1. "Kitty Litter" 3:47 ''' This sounds like Placebo, same guitar sound, just a little neater. The refrain, "Move closer, I gotta feel your touch" is lyrically, ...

I think to have the songs as a background 'noise' whilst you're busy doing something there's nothing to fall out about. They're up-tempo, they're good tracks but when you listen really closely I just find myself getting ... ...quite repetitive and i ended up playing 'sport the repitition' which seems to occur in a lot of their songs and not just the odd one. There are some clever lyrics though, below are a few:
*"Time will help you grow but it doesn't have the time..." from Never Ending Why.
*"Stupid me for thinking I could depend on stupid you...for they were drowned in southern comfort...." From Kings of Medicine.
I do enjoy listening to this album but it's not one ...

Advantages: easier to listen to, a change. Disadvantages: Very different from the old music, to those who liked their old music.
...Placebo.
Battle for the Sun itself, has an absolutely brilliant opening and is crazily attention seeking. I think it has high potential and may possibly attract a new group of fans, as their old music used to fall into the genre of grunge ever so slightly. But their new music does merge into the indie scene. The lyrical depth to most of the songs is rather lacking, but they are attention grabbing, so for that, i will not criticise the meaningless ... ...They have not lost their use of guitars, but in this album, deffinately seem to be playing them more melodically. From this album I think i would categorize them more with the likes of Kings of leon and The Killers, rather than with the likes of Aidan, which I used to assosciate them with.
Personally, i feel they have made a good choice to have this quirky twist, finally i feel they have realised that their is a larger audience with this new group ...

Advantages: Great Background Instrumentals, Brian Molko's melodic voice Disadvantages: Non-sensical Lyrics
...Placebo's number one fan, however, Battle For The Sun, with it's haunting instrumentals has merited a four star rating from me. Brian Molko's melodic voice has carried the song, creating a gothic atmosphere with sexual and sensual undertones. When one listens to Battle of The Sun, it isn't hard to imagine it in films such as Twilight where the theme is based on mystical and forbidden love. Whilst the melody of Battle of The Sun is certainly one of ... ...so much emotion, and Molko's voice conveying a solemn but beautiful message, the lyrics do not seem to reflect this. Therefore, in my opinion Battle of The Sun is great sounding but I only wish that Placebo had tried harder to give the lyrics the same impact as the music. ...
