The Bends is the second of a trilogy of masterpieces released by Radiohead. It combines the punk rock of songs such as “just” with the beauty of tracks such as “black star”. This album is half way between the rocking “pablo honey” and brilliant but eerie “OK computer” and if you liked either of those albums then you will love this. In my opinion you can not help but like this album and never tire of listening to it even though I bought over two years ...

Advantages: Good combinatio of songs Disadvantages:
The bends is the 2nd album that has been released by Radiohead. The Bends gives a good balanced contrast between the fairly melow type of tune such as 'Street Spirit' and the heavier guitarist rock such as 'Just'. Sure most bands albums do this but Radiohead have put these two types of tunes into one resulting in brilliant such as 'Nice Dream' where the song starts of quiet and gets louder in the middle. This is what is so unique about The Bends ...

Advantages: Great addicitve songs Disadvantages: Maybe depressing a bit!
This is one outstanding, diverse album. The bends has some great songs on it, some classics and on the whole, is very gloomy and depressing to begin with (which I suppose int a good thing!). This album (and their following "OK COmputer") simply put Radiohead by far and away at the forefront of British alternative music. They are the most talented, creative and down to earth band in England. The Bends has some epic tunes, including "High and Dry" ... ...There are some other great songs of note, including "black Star" and "Sulk" but I think if you buy this album, you will defintely find every song very appealing and attractive in its own right. This is a remarkable improvement on thier debut album, "Pablo Honey" which can almost be described as a one hit wonder, with the song "Creep". on the whole, this is a vast improvement and s a great album! ...

Advantages: Simply a touch of genius Disadvantages: it will get you depressed
Yes I agree OK computer is the best album. But something draws me to 'The Bends' album.
You have some of the best and classic songs from them, Fake Plastic Trees, Street Spirit, and High & Dry.
The quality of it is brilliant. I have friends who just get depressed when listening to their albums, it doesn't depress me any more, shows how often I listen to it and it will only depress you if you let it.
The rifts in and cords used Street Spirit are ...

The Bends Radiohead (Parlophone 1995)
Truly unique. A great album that explores many different emotions. The music is so clever that it is difficult to concentrate on anything but the music. Thom Yorke’s lyrics are beautiful astonishing, with very powerful visual images: “Cracked eggs dead birds…I can feel death and it’s beady eyes”. The music is clearly a deep exploration of different thoughts, like they are singing us an account of their most ... ...My Iron Lung’ and ‘Bullet Proof…I Wish I Was’ illustrate this nicely. There is an great variation of music the watery Street Spirit, to the Grungy Just and the obviously R.E.M.-esque songs like Sulk. Thom Yorke’s voice acts as an emotive hammer that wallops you around the head in slow motion. Songs like High and Dry will have your wondering if his voice is going to pass out of the human audible range. Johnny Greenwood’s guitar complements the exceptional ...

This is a classic album. Following on from the mediocre 'Pablo honey', 'The Bends' represents a massive change in direction for Radiohead. Gone are the jangly, upbeat guitars of previous, to be replaced by a moody, brooding sound that is bordering on the suicidal. You just have to look at the cover of this album to discover the antithesis that this album represents: is the person showing pain or pleasure; there is definitely a certain Mona Lisa-esque ...

Advantages: Almost all songs are great Disadvantages: Hard to get into at first
I was never a big fan of Pablo Honey, somehow I just never managed to get into it. I brought the Bends based on word of mouth from freinds and a few snippets that I'd heard on TV, most notabley the 'Just' single. Thom Yorke's voice is unrivalled in the 'angsty youth of today stakes' and in most of the songs his vocal chords are put to good use. Highlights include, the opener, 'Planet Telex' 'Fake Plastic Trees' and 'My Iron Lung'. It did take me ...

this band has produced here an album of unrivalled originality amongst guitar based indie / rock bands. long gone are the days of oasis / beatles chord progression and here there is a cornucopia of rich numbers where the guitar work is powerful and excentric, and this is matched by the tender voice of the lead singer. "high and dry" is quite mainstream, but brilliant with it , "fake plastic trees" likewise and the more upbeat numbers are just fuelled ...

A great album and a great follow up to Pablo Honey. This is true music, and true genius. Forget all the Britney Spears pap that is fed out of the radio, in fact, turn off the radio. Buy this album, and any other Radiohead album, and your view on music will be changed for life. Highlights include, the opener, 'Planet Telex' 'Fake Plastic Trees' and 'My Iron Lung" and of course, "The Bends." The greatest contribution to music since Queen. Some people ...

Such raw talent. It takes a lot of talent to be able to take raw emotion on this scale and craft something with the result. This album is superb, rich, talented, craftsmanlike. They have the originality and attitude of REM but with their own unique sound. Just don't implode ok ?
I love Street Spirit, and the video is the best. I think that this is their best album to date, though I love 'exit music for a film' on OK Computer.

Advantages: the most complete album ever recorded Disadvantages: you might wear out the cd
this is, for me, the best album ever recorded. from the windswept introduction to 'planet telex', to the soft end of 'street spirit', it oozes pure class.
having said that, i do think this album is a 'grower'. that is, it would probably take a few listens, but after that, you'll be hooked.
the album isn't really one for standout tracks - they are all excellent, and complement eachother to make the album a seamless experience rather than just a ...

Advantages: World peace, rest of the inner self... Disadvantages: None.
...was Pablohoney, followed by The Bends, then OK Computer. Their 4th album is due to be released towards the end of this year. I'm anxiously awaiting the release because I really want to find out what they've been up to and how their music has changed or remained. Out of the 3 released so far, The Bends definitely tops them all.
This is the track listing for The Bends:
1. Planet Telex
2. The Bends
3. High And Dry
4. Fake Plastic Trees
5. Bones
... ...8. My Iron Lung
9. Bullet Proof..I Wish I Was
10. Black Star
11. Sulk
12. Street Spirit (Fade Out)
My personal favourite is Street Spirit and Nice Dream. But the whole album is really well-rounded. I always pride myself on thinking that perfection is merely an ideology, however this is one exception. ...

Advantages: Lyrical and sonic chaos Disadvantages: Can be depressing
Mixing petulance, grace and bleak anger in a way their debut Pablo Honey only hinted at, The Bends is a triumph on every level. It neatly blew away the legacy of their huge hit Creep, moved the goalposts for all guitar bands, and provides the soundtrack for the lives of countless dissaffected teens and twentysomethings.
The album opens with the concrete-heavy keyboard and guitar riff of Planet Telex, before diving off into a whole clutch of grunged-out ... ...collision of Dear Prudence and Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box as gorgeous as ever. But amazingly every track on The Bends matches up to it, be it the dirty strum of Just - with its ever-ascending guitar lines, or the forceful lope of Sulk
For the most part the lyrics map frontman Thom Yorke's increasing frustration with the whole media circus surrounding the band, the lines "We're to cynical to speak, we're losing it, can't you tell?" in My Iron Lung ...

Radio head – the Bends has got to be up there with the best albums in the world. Not as commercial as OK computer and also more rocky but more successful that their first. From the strange sound that begins the album (I’m told it is the sound of an exercise bike wheel) to the majestic Street Sprit(fade out) this album is pure genius.
