Nice dream

Advantages: good songs
Disadvantages: loads of crazy effects

this album is well different from the first because they started experimenting with different effects and all the songs have these in like bulletproof and planet telex. High and dry and street spirit are the only ones they left alone and they turn out to be the best songs apart from Iron lung which is a track left over from the pablo honey period and you can tell because its all about guitars with that one. This album was very successful because ...

Doubting Thomas

Advantages: You tell me.
Disadvantages: I don't hear what all the fuss is about.

I don't know if I have all the details right when I say this, but some time ago the NME conducted a survey of musicians to discover the most influential groups of all time. Number one was the Beatles. Predictable, but perfectly reasonable too. Number two was David Bowie. Not so predictable, but not so unreasonable either. Number three was... Radiohead. My first reaction was incredulity. Radiohead? They've only been around for a decade or so, and ...
...is some achievement, even if the survey -- and I think it must have been -- was biased in some way. Musicians who take part in surveys by the NME aren't wholly representative, after all. But even taking that into account, it remained some achievement. So I decided to hear what the fuss was about. I felt I owed it to myself: Radiohead must be pretty darn good. Exceptionally good, in fact. So I conducted a survey of my own. On myself and my reaction ...

The Bends

Advantages: Very consistent, excellent tracks
Disadvantages: little depressing at times

I started listening to Radiohead a few years ago and i have to say, the Bends is their finest album by far. It is incredibly consistent and has some absolutely outstanding tracks such as 'street spirit'and fakePlastic trees. The album is fantastically diverse with some extremely mellow tracks which are incredibly relaxing and soothing. However, the album also has some rather heavier tracks such as 'just' and caters for all rock fans needs. This album ...

The bends is still Number 1

Advantages: Something worthwhile to spend your money on
Disadvantages: You`ll want to buy more Radiohead

Radiohead are universally apprecciated for their originality. The bends proved to be breakthrough for the british based band. This album has track after track of quality. A great opening number followed by ` the bends` imediallty will make you able to understand why they are regarded as one of the great bands of the nineties. `High and dry` is one of their best songs, which is procedded by `fake plastic trees` which is one of their biggest hits. ...
...a great song with an equally as good video. This being heavier than the rest shows that they are no average push-over boy-band. `Black star` and street spirit are also great tracks.`Spreet Spirit` makes a quiet ending to a great album. This album is actually quite old, compared to the rate of which albums are released nowadays, but it`s lost none of it`s qualilty over the years. With more recent album`s being released by Radiohead lately such as ...

Radical Radiohead

Advantages: Mind-blowing, original, lovely harmonies and musical allround
Disadvantages: Never want it too end, ie not long long enough

This album is, quite simply, brilliant. Firstly, it is not dirivitive of anything that I have heard before (which is virtually impossible these days)and secondly each and every song on it just happens to be astonishingly powerful. On most albums, certain tracks are skipped by the listener because they are perhaps weaker songs than others, but in 'The Bends'' case one has to listen to every track. I personally cannot choose a favourite on 'The Bends' ...
...lovers. The album begins gently with 'Planet Telex' and peaks at its most powerful in the middle with 'Just' and 'My Iron Lung'. Not to say that these are any better than the others, but then the album seems to quieten down at the end with 'Bullet Proof...I Wish I Was' and 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)'. The only thing that I could possibly identify as a problem for this masterpiece is the fact that it is not long enough! ...

...in my view are The Bends, bones, Black Star and of course Street Spirit (Fade Out). Do not overlook this awesome album! I have never heard emotion in a song that is so palpable as in "Fake Plastic Trees", it makes me shiver every time I hear it. As for the rest of the album, simply flawless. The problem is that by producing an album so perfect they have in effect given themselves no where else to go other than into the outlandish arms of Kid A which ...

Got the bends.

Advantages: Very good music. Inspiring and intellectual lyrics.
Disadvantages: maybe a bit too depressing. Can get a tad abstract for some peoples liking.

Radiohead never cease to amaze me. I used to occasionally listen to one or two of their songs when they came my way, and loved them, but I never really took them in. Basically I thought they had a few good melodies and lots of incomprehensible singing. Well one day I decided to splash out and get two of their acclaimed albums, "ok computer" and "the bends". I haven’t quite decided which one I prefer but I’m listeing to the bends more ...
...have a fantastic style of music, and if you listen for long enough you can almost feel each album, they both have subtle themes to the titles. The music drifts syou into the twisted world of radiohead and you never want to leave it. It has some absolutley fantastic songs aswell, for instance “high and dry” and the more well known “street spirit (fade out)”. The lyrics are great but pretty abstract. You will have to think ...

The Bends-The best.

Advantages: Sheer Quality
Disadvantages: Erm... some of the writing in the booklet is a bit hard to read...no, I give up. A Classic.

The Bends, released in the very middle of the decade, is without doubt one of the greatest albums of the 1990's. I would go as far as to say that for me personally it is one of the greatest albums of all time. It is also one of the very few albums that can be listened to from beginning to end without skipping any songs; there is no obvious "filler" material as there was with some of the other supposed great albums of the 90's, such as the Verve's ...
...quite simply, magnificent from start to finish. The album drifts from 100 miles an hour, top quality, guitar solos (The Bends) to haunting acoustic songs (Fake Plastic Trees), without the quality ever dipping below superb. Unusually for an album of such diversity and quality, the Bends is also instantly accessible; first time listeners will be able to love this album, something which could not be said about much of the bands (also amazing) later ...

A great second album from one of the world's greatest bands

Advantages: Has many classic songs
Disadvantages: Dips slightly towards the end

Radiohead made a name for themselves back in 1993 with the album "Pablo Honey" achieving reasonable success and recognition. Their comeback album entitled "The bends" improved on their debut album giving them critical acclaim. They quickly from the grunge-punk times and smashed straight into the brit rock scene with the likes of oasis. The album beings with the mysterious "Planet Telex" which bores the ambiguous statement "everything is broken". ...
...Greenwood and a powerful chorus with strange lyrics such as "my baby's got the bends". Radiohead's frontman often joked about the lyrics and the seriousness of the song however regardless of the meaning the music is still apprehendable. Next we have "high and dry" which was released as a single. The song is the most "mainstream" of all meaning anyone and everyone can relate the catchy melody and lyrics. "fake plastic trees", the first single, is ...

Doesn't get any better

Advantages: Best Radiohead Album
Disadvantages:

The best album Radiohead have, or will ever make. Thom York is at his best, over the drugs and not quite into the pretentious state which gave us OK Computer. There are no flaws here, just Brit Pop at its strongest. The highlight of the album is track 7 - Just, its up there with "creep" for me, need I say more? There's a new album due out for Radiohead, if it follows where The Bends left off and skips the OK Computer phase.....british alternative ...

Advantages: Intelligence, flowing, memorable and full of style.
Disadvantages: ?????!??!?!?! You must be joking, well "some" people claim it is depressing; LIGHTEN UP!!

...of the entire albun, The Bends, that really blows me away. The basis for every song is so simple it's tantamount to laziness. All backed with the acoustic guitar, the tracks just seem so easy, but scratch away at the surface and really take note of each individual sound (some of which require such a high end stereo for maximum appreciation that there should have been a warning) and you can see the expertise that is at work. The songs flow as a unit, ...
...but prove that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. From the start to the unforgettable finish, the album is mellow in places and rocking in others, an absolute treat for anyone not mindnumbed by the rubbish pop music currently on offer. Oh and by the way, My Iron Lung was recorder live and then had the vocals re-done in the studio afterwards. It was recorded at The London Astoria in about '92 I think. ...

Music as it should be

Advantages: The Greatest BritPop Album
Disadvantages: Couldn't scale these heights again

I think that this alubm changed my life! I heard it when I was 16 years old, and I haven't stopped listening to it since (and believe me - thats a long time) This is a soundtrack to a time when Britain was coming out of the Thatcherite years (very slowly) and dissaffected youths were being influenced more and more by American culture. For me and my friends, the Seattle scene was IT, and everyone was looking for a British equivalent. With the Madchester ...
...and then Radiohead released The Bends Their first album, Pablo Honey was a masterpiece (read review) The Bends was a masterpeice matured!!! They picked up from the end of Pablo Honey and kept going. The Bends began Radioheads love affair with a darker kind of rock. They introduced synthesizers and samples into their music. But essential this was a headbanging rock album. Favourite tracks that stand out would be the melodic Street Spirit, the ...

Just Praise

Advantages: Beautiful and Loud
Disadvantages: not a lot

Without Doubt one of the best albums of the ninties, Radiohead achieved one of the rare doubles in music, critical acliam and popularity and rightly so. This album is a lot more instan than OK computer and there are no poor tracks on the whole album. The songs do that sounds similtaneously like something elses and nothing you have never heard before. The opener "Planet Telex" has a sort of trance feel to it and explodes into the powerful guitar of ...
...as "High and Dry" and "Fake Plastic Tress" have beautiful melodys and Thom Yorkes heartbreaking vocie. The album shifts seemlesley bettween the melencholy acoustic songs and the big crashing guitars which few bands can achieve. "Just" is awsome and "My Iron Lung" sounds like nothing else around. The closing song "Street Spirit" is one of the most jaw dropping songs i've ever heard, the lyrics as they are throughout are excellent, his tortured voice ...

Great Just Great

Advantages: Something New For Your Speakers To Churn Out
Disadvantages: Kinda Short

Frequently outdoing even the majesty and invention for ‘OK Computer’ in 'Best of all time' polls, this is Radiohead’s finest record to date. It's essentially straight-ahead rock with all the power and angst that is Thom Yorke's trademark, and some of Johnny Greenwood's guitar work which has sadly been squeezed off the band's current agenda. Opening with the superb ‘Planet Telex’ and gliding through classics from the ...
...video and the understated ‘Bulletproof’, whilst leaving one of its true highlights till the end with the Top 5 smash ‘Street Spirit’, this perhaps is the peak from which Radiohead will eternally try to run.
