Advantages: Sixteen fantastic songs covering a range of Aerosmith styles Disadvantages: More commercialised and less edgy than their 70's releases
...the music scene, the remarkable Big Ones. The album is actually a ‘best of’ compilation, that covers the three albums released over the previous seven years from 1994, Permanent Vacation, Pump and Get a Grip, and, in my mind, is one of the most flawless rock n’roll albums ever released.
Aerosmith’s music, especially in the early days, was based on the extremely talented guitar skills of Joe Perry and the unique, powerful yet versatile vocals of ...

Advantages: Some Exceptional Songs Disadvantages: Some Weak Songs
Aerosmith are one of the best rock bands of all time. With a career spanning over 20 years, this album represents songs from three albums of their work, as well as the odd single, those albums being Permanent Vacation, Pump and Get A Grip.
Here's a rundown of the tracks:
1. Walk On Water
This song was released in 1994, and wasn't on any of their albums. The song has good rhythm and great lead throughout. Lyrics are inspiring in places and weak ...

Advantages: Great Aerosmith tracks Disadvantages: You may end up with duplicates
Title: Big Ones
Released: November, 1994
Label: Geffen Records
Album Type: Compilation Album
Produced by: Bruce Fairbairn, Michael Beinhorn
The tracks on this album span from the late 80's and the early 90's era of Aerosmith's career. As usual, I am marking songs to how they sound as they are, not to if they live up to Aerosmith songs from the start of their career.
Now, to begin with, this album has many tracks on it, which are on the ...

...lead guitarist Joe Perry. The Big Ones compilation was issued in 1994 and features their strongest material up to that point. One surprising omission I feel is that ‘Walk This Way’ the co-operative track with Run DMC is not included. Although perhaps it was predominantly a Run DMC track it was carried by the Aerosmith contribution. It could be argued it probably also partly re-launched Aerosmith at a comparatively barren part of their ...

Advantages: 15 great songs, 16 if you include Dude ... twice. Disadvantages: None I can think of
Released in 1994 Big Ones is a compilation of the best songs from Permanent Vacation, Pump and Get A Grip along with a song from The Beavis And Butthead Experience and two new recordings.
For those unaware Aerosmith are an American rock band that have been together for over 30 years (if you forget about a five year absence of two members in the early 80's). Perhaps that's an understatement, they are THE American rock band. The band comprises of ...

...was right, £16 for Aerosmith’s Big Ones. The thing is, though; I would probably have paid twice or even thrice that if there were no other way to get hold of this compilation album.
Yes, this is a collection of Aerosmith’s best hits - at the time of this release, that is - and so some people whine about the originality of the lyrics and yet another moneymaking scheme. I don’t think that that gripe is entirely justified in this case though. The ...

Advantages: Mostly the best of 3 albums Disadvantages: A couple of weak tracks
For a band that only made it back out of obscurity because Run DMC covered one of their tracks and subsiquently got it into a film (the Lost Boys) - you soon realise that they have done a lot of good music and have been around for a very long time.
They have since gone on to other successes, doing the music for a couple of other films (eg Armageddon - which included a band interview and introduction to their song) and have realeased a couple more ...

*UPDATED 14 FEB 02*
"Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most". (Steve Tyler, lead singer, Aerosmith)
Yes, quite. Despite your opinion of Aerosmith, there is no denying that as a rock band they have certainly stamped their mark on music. This album is the 1994 release from them, and is a 'best of' culminating from the previous 3 studio albums. The track listing speaks volumes - even if the only Aerosmith songs you've heard are the ...

Advantages: Easy listening, variety of tracks, classic Disadvantages: Only a few tracks will be timeless
...but only selected tracks. Big Ones is a good all rounder for the rock fan.
CONCLUSION
I would recommend this to an Aerosmith fan but not to any rock fan… it’s light hearted and fun to listen to with a few weepies if you’re in the mood.
You can buy it for between £8 - £12 from places such as Coda Music, Virgin Megastores, HMV or online at cd-wow.co.uk / 101cd.com. ...

Advantages: Good ol fashioned rock Disadvantages: Only so much squeaky guitar you can take
These boys really have been around a very long time. I remember getting some of their greatest hits collections on tape back in the early 80's. Then for some (well known) reasons, the band disappeared up its own backside in a mixture of drugs and alcahol! (alledgedly!)
Anyway - time has moved on and the boys have now firmly re-established themselves - doing title tracks for a number of films and the lead singer now having a very famous (and very ...

If you really like Aerosmith but can't afford to buy all the albums, then this is the one for you. Released in 1994, it features pretty much all of the songs that they should be rememebred for - like Love in an Elevator, Janie's Got a Gun, Cryin etc.
Considering the band broke up for quite a while pre-Permanent Vactation, you'd never know it from the quality tracks on this album, which takes the best of Permanent, Get a Grip and Pump and puts them ...

Aerosmith have been around for twenty years or more and it is difficult to advise people new to Aerosmith which album to listen too. I take the easy way out and suggest 'Big Ones' which is a compilation of many of their greatest hits of the first fifteen years.
This album captures the essence of Aerosmith showing off their diverse music that ranges from heavy rock to soft rock to love ballad, with the odd jazzy song thrown in. Steven Tyler, the ...

Aerosmith Big Ones is not just an album, it's a classic. Released in 1994 it contains some of their more well known tracks from the late 80's to the early 90's. The songs range from "Love In An Elevator" to the thought provoking "Blind Man". I am surprised that "Walk This Way" with Run DMC is not on this album as it was the song that revived their career in the 80's. They are now without doubt one of the biggest rock bands today and "Big Ones" comes ...

Essential Listening? You bet. The best of... which this album essentially is, except for the two new tracks WALK ON WATER and DEUCES ARE WILD, shows some of the best from "The quintessential rock band of all time". If you haven't heard of Aerosmith then this is the place to start. WALK ON WATER is the lead track collaborating Joe Perry's dirty rhythm and Steven Tyler's vocal acrobatics and this is built on throughout the album. LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR ...
