===Track 1- Breakaway ===
This is the first track on the album, it's a good mix of pop and rock, and her voice really shines through in this song. This track I have just found out, is co-written by Avril Lavinge and you can sort of here that in the lyrics. It's different from other tracks on the album. Kelly carries it off perfectly. The track starts off quite slow, and is like a ballad almost, but it still manages to be not just a poppy ... ...Kelly was trying to do with this album. This was the first single from the album, it's not the best on the album by any means but it's still a very powerful track with some amazing vocals. It's very catchy as well, you will always find yourself singing along to it. A fantastic track and well worth checking out, some amazing lyrics as well so well done to both Kelly & Avril. Memorable Lyrics: "I'll spread my wings, I'll learn how to fly, and I'll ...

Advantages: great reinvention, great songs, lyrics provided Disadvantages: none - even the weaker tracks don't detract from the quality!
Okay, well I don't know about you but while I may enjoy watching tv talent shows like "X-factor" or "Pop Idol", I don't really take them seriously. Let's face it, apart from perhaps Will Young and Girls Aloud, no artist who has won a show like this has gained particular credibility or great fame. And I haven't particularly wanted to listen to their music, beyond perhaps their first single.
Kelly Clarkson was someone I thought was going to be one ... ...the Christina Aguilera-penned "Miss Independent" was fantastic - I even bought it, and I don't buy singles as a rule! She had a great voice, undoubtedly, and was fairly photogenic to boot, but then she started releasing the inevitable boring ballads. I didn't buy her debut album "Thankful" but based on what I've heard people say about it, I didn't really miss much.
But when I fell in love with "Since U Been Gone" and then heard her new single "Behind ...

All in all a fantastic album. I think the remixes are weak and the screen for the videos is pathetic which is why It's got 4/5 stars. The ...

...become the public's first choice. Breakaway is her second album having been released in 2004 in America and 2005 over here, her first one "Thankful" was released back in 2003 shortly after she first hit the charts. Kelly Clarkson's style is a mixture of quirky rock and more fundamental pop, her first album definitely steered towards the latter while her latest album sees her finding her feet more firmly within the rock field. However don't let that ... ...Lavinge or Gwen Stefani.
Breakaway is the first track on the album which was also her first single to be taken from it, needless to say it flew in at Number 1 over in America. It's quite slow and smooth to start with but sets the mood for the rest of the album with a strong crescendo towards the chorus and some fabulously emotive lyrics, "I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly, I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky, Make a wish, Take ...

Advantages: A far more accomplished second album Disadvantages: The UK release was 7 months after the US release!
Having enjoyed her debut album, "Thankful", I was at a loss to understand why Kelly Clarkson wasn't a success in the UK. After all, she had a sound not dissimilar to early Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, who were both big stars. Even more than this, she won the first series of "American Idol" which, given how well acts like Girls Aloud have done, should have been a guarantee of decent sales. She even had a song on the "Love Actually" soundtrack, ... ...does.
Sadly, thanks to the lack of interest, I have had to wait for nearly eight months for this album. It was originally released in the US in December 2004, but a UK release was never confirmed. For months I would scour Clarkson's website and Amazon waiting for it to become available and unwilling to pay £16.99 for an import version, not having heard any of the sons in advance, as there were no UK singles releases at that point, either.
Finally, ...

...Kelly fever. Her second album Breakaway though already available on import in autumn 2004 became a massive seller when it was re-issued after the massive hit 'Since You Been Gone'. Since then she has had a further two massive hits with 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' and 'Because Of You'. But is Breakaway really worth the Grammy Award and Brit Nomination (and PopSalvage Award see the site!)?
'Breakaway' the title track was huge worldwide in Autumn 2004 ... ...2 reaching number one in America and Australia. It's co-written by Avril Lavigne (Christina Aguilera co-wrote Miss Independent so it must be Kelly's thing) and is a summery guitary mid tempo piece, much poppier than you would expect from Avril. Advantages: Catchy tunes which are mostly ballad or rock ballad. Disadvantages: Might be a bit too samey for some.
...Independant and Low. Breakaway has a sort of country feel to it. It's all about breaking away from her small town roots and wanting to achieve her dreams. It's not a ballad but then not really a pop song. I have described it as a heart warming country ballad with hints of pop to my friend, and that is the best way I can sum it up. Kelly's voice is mellow and warm throughout. This is one of my favourite tracks on the album.
Since U Been Gone is totally ... ...feeling freed by the ending of a relationship. There's a contant guitar with a sharp, looped rhythm, and the chorus is a full band playing. This song is mixture of bitter and relief and Kelly's voice is a lot less mellow.
Behind These Hazel Eyes follows in the footsteps of Since U Been Gone. However, the verses are like an average ballad, with just voice, guitar and drums in a soft style. Then, there is a change in form of the song at the chorus ...

...the title suggests; it's a breakaway from the past, from her first album, and more importantly, from her time on American Idol.
Opener 'Breakaway', a track penned jointly with (of all people) Avril Lavigne, gives Kelly her introduction to the rock niche - talking of getting up off your ass to go chase those dreams in the big city, it's a decent introduction to both Kelly herself, and the album as a whole. Lyrically, it could be said that she relies ... ...albums strongholds.
Rock aside, Breakaway displays a few other sides of our Ms Clarkson; 'Gone' is something of an up-tempo pop song, with a slight R'n'B injection to boot - "Sometimes shattered, never opened. nothing matters, when you're broken. That was me whenever I was with you" - again delivering the proverbial low-blow to a former lover, Kelly shows both her defiance and quality on another impressive track. 'Addicted' sees a relationship getting ...

In 2002 Kelly Clarkson beat over 10,000 other contestants to become 'American Idol'. In this show which was the American version of our own 'Pop Idol' Kelly, who was only 20 years old at the time, performed live every week for ten weeks to an audience of 25 million on one of America's most succesful TV shows ever. ...on each song:
1. Breakaway - As the soundtrack from 'The Princess Diaries' movie, i have to say, it's really good for a soundtrack. Most soundtracks are a little bit more to do with the storyline of the movie that it's featured in, so they mostly come across cheesy, but this is not cheesy in my opinion. This album is sooooo good! There's a really good mix of songs; ballads, pop, and some great guitar! (There's a summary of the review at the bottom if you don't want to read the full run down!)
'Breakaway', the first song, was written by Avril Lavigne (among others) and Kelly Clarkson does it perfect justice. It's a medium slow one with some fantastic vocals in the chorus and the last verse.
'Since U Been Gone' is the first UK release from this ... ...a more up-beat contrast to the first song.
'Behind These Hazel Eyes' has some great guitar, and is similar in structure to 'Since U Been Gone'; a slightly quieter verse compared to a loud-ish chorus. Kelly co-wrote this song, and it's not half bad...
'Because of You' is probably the slowest and most ballad-y song on the album, and was again co-written by Clarkson herself. While the vocals are still excellent and she makes good use of her range, ...
