Maybe ths is just not my type of music but how the hell did they get the mecury music prize? They all sound like there in there 50's. It's dissapointing that the best tracks are the singles because they aren't realy all that good, maybe i just expected it to be better than this but i was very dissapointed. This is one of my favourite albums and Gomez are therefore one of my favourite bands. Their album, which came out in 1998, is very original, combing rhythm, blues, jazz and alternative rock. The lead singer Ian Ball has such and strong and unique voice it is truly amazing but he doesn’t hog the limelight as all the members have their turn to sing and all have superb voices. The album has a real feel good air about it, especially "whipping Piccadilly". ... Read review

...prize-winning Gomez, whose first album Bring It On is a breath of fresh air on the Indie scene. The album is full of wonderful tracks with catchy choruses and hooks from rarely used instruments. Though the band has 3 guitars in it, there isn't a rock sound to the album at all, with exciting percussion parts and infectious effects stealing the show, all for the better. I don't care about music prizes. They are usually voted for by a small unrepresentative group of critics who don't know their plectrum from their amp. But you've guessed it, I was proved entirely wrong with Gomez, who actually DESERVED to win the Mercury Music Prize, to my shock and disbelief. This Album won the lads from Gomez a Mercury music award. Most awards don't mean shit, but this is usually something not to take lightly. But is this album worth it? I'm not so sure. The opening track is "Get Miles". A good chorus but otherwise quite boring. Then you get four great songs in a row. "Whippin' Piccadilly" is a sort of electro-pop track. This is not an album for those dark and dreary winter days,or for those all important social events we call parties(we'll leave those to Mr Slim),this is an album for relaxing in the sun with.It's an album that sounds better when your lieing down,half clad,and happy with life. ...a winning formula. Gomez's album Bring it on is an album that you just want to lie on your bed and chill out to. My present favourite song is Bubblegum Years. A fairly slow song which oozes with Gomez charm. There is only one bad song on the album in my opinion and that is The Comeback. Classics such as Whippin' Piccadily and Get Myself Arrested are complimented by previously unheard tracks such as Free to Run, Tijuana Lady and Bubble Gum years. ... Read review

...already know the deal with Bring It On. If you don't, buy it now. It's easily the best debut album since REM's Murmur, and confirms the band as a bright spot in the darkness of today's music. I'm writing this because I'm lucky enough to have obtained a promo copy of Liquid Skin today.
