buhloone mind state. odd name. but for true hip-hop fans, this is arguably the greatest work ever done by de la soul, who themselves are legends in the rap game. it was an album i bought a long time ago, and it took me several listens to like it. at first, i dismissed it. too different. i picked it up again about a year later, and it had all changed. it holds my favourite song of theirs: "i am, i be" - a beautiful off-paced exhibition of lyricism. ... ...rhymes of "in the woods" and "ego trippin" are simply incredible. and then it all takes a pace down with the beautifully mellow "i be blowin'" with horn legend maceo parker. de la know the score that all modern music comes from jazz anyway. a true hip-hop album, containing experimental stuff, with good old beats and a whole lot of finesse. buy it today. ...
