I don't understand how this has so many good reviews,this WOULD be a good album were it not for the constant and rather rather obvious distortion that can be herd quite easily throughout the album, this is not the sort of distortion like you get in electric guitars quite often, that sort of distortion is done deliberately for effect, the distortion that can be herd on this album is down to poor mastering, because somone thought they would make it ...
...up, louder in the recording just makes an album sound like this. There is even a petition to have it remastered http://www.petitiononline.com/RHCPWBCD/petition.html However if you search the net there is an "unmasterd" bootleg version in circulation, this version is actually listenable, in fact I rate the unmasterd version as 4 stars! Red hot chili peppers, Californication is one of the best albums I have ever heard, its just as good as blood sugar sex magic if not even better. Its superbly put together and has got so many exellent songs on it. These songs arnt all "punky" either theres a mix of slow acoustic style of music i.e scar tissue and then theres your clasic r.h.c.p songs such as Californication and All around the world! Bought this coz it was in the album charts at HMV... so I took it home, put it in the stereo, (as u do), and listened. Bloody amazing! Has some classic tracks on (Scar Tissue, Parallel Universe, Road Trippin', Otherside, and of course, as the album suggests, Californication). All this and some other pretty good tracks, I like Dirt, Saviour, Purple Stain etc... make this one hell of an album. Its one of my favourite albums, and the best Chilli's one ...

This album is not very good at all. I can not see what all the fuss is about mybe my title was a little missleading as the album is not terrible, just slightly awful. I have to say that i'm quite disappointed with this album as a whole despite there being several songs of top quality. The album starts with "Around the world" which is an allright start with weird lyrics and only made good by Ant Keidis's brilliant voice. Next up "paralell universe which is instantly forgettable and not worth lingering on. However "Scar Tissue" is one of the best tracks on the album and with the good "Otherside" and the absolutely ...
...me with hope for the rest of the album. Sadly this hope was misplaced and "easily" is the first of many tracks that sound identical to each other. Then "porcelain" is just a disgrace and sounds like one of those old videos which are always flickering. "Emit Remmus" is ok but it still sounds too much like previous tracks.
