Advantages: Some strong songs - ie title track
Disadvantages: patchy

Althouh I enjoyed Live Through This, Celbrity Skin is a much more patchy and less abrrasive effort. Adter the rumours regarding Kurt writing most of the last album, its sad to see that Courtney had to get Billy Corgan in to write some of this one ! Apart from the excellent title track not much truly jumps out at the listener, most of the tracks take longer to sink in. ...weeks as u will with Celebrity Skin. As an album it is fairly ordinary with moments of excellence and moments of weakness. Track 2 "Awful" has a certain charm and there is a wide range of musical influences at work here, Kurt Cobain being undoubtedly amongst them. I first got Hole's "Celebrity Skin" when it first came out, when I wasnt a very big Hole fan. I didnt really appreciate at first. Then I bought "Live Through This", and loved it. I decided I'd listen to "Celebrity Skin" and I was astonished how amazing the album really is. ...the early 90s grunge scene. Celebrity Skin in undoubtedly the work of an international star. It's still brash and noisy and Courtney still attacks the choruses with extreme coarseness, but the songs are smoother and more adult; Malibu is almost graceful. Celebrety Skin is the best female rock album i've heard yet. Courtney and the rest of her band have really taken off with this. To many people out there i think that this really does show that Courtney Love Cobain can make it for her self and didn't just get into the industry by marrying Kurt Cobain. Disadvantages: Over produced, and bland in places.

Celebrity skin is a departure from the band's previously more punky edge. this is an album with a lot of variation, well after all there were seven different people involved in the writing of it! Celebrity Skin is one of those songs that gets people up onto the dance floor straight away, and it is probably the best song on the album, although mellower numbers like 'Dying' and 'Malibu' come close.
