'A Day At The Races'
1) Tie Your Mother Down
The Times Newspaper actually summed this record up as ' Sheer Bloody Poetry ' . Starting off sound almost like a Japanese opera ( performed by Brian May ) , the symbols crash then the rock begins . An unforgettable pice of rock genius . A must for live performaces , and true rock classic . Well suited to Brian1s guitar playing , and Freddie1s superb vocals . Queen at the richest .

Advantages: Wide range of Queen material and styles Disadvantages: A bit too similar to the last release?
...ballads and hard rock, A Day At The Races features perhaps the heaviest piece Queen have ever done in ‘White Man’. This album featured a couple of wonderful tunes - ‘You And I’ penned by John Deacon is the best Queen song never released as a single, ‘The Millionaires Waltz’ is another five minute Freddie epic encompassing various styles within the one basic framework, ‘Teo Torriate...’ is a lovely ballad with which they finish ...

ADATR is probably the less well known album in terms of songs in comparison to its presecessor a night at the opera - the one with bo rhap.
It came out in 1976 and did rather well:)
Released songs include 'Tie Your Mother Down', 'Somebody to Love', and 'Teo Torriate' - the last two are on Greatest Hits III.
It was promoted by a special race at kempton park and had the highest pre release order to date of the bands albums.

Top!
No really ther is a good mix of stuff on the album - tymd for the rocker and 'Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy' for the cassanova and 'You Take my Breath Away' for every romantic.
Its a wonderful queen album with some early sounds and a traceable development in style.
Being a fan in biased but it really is one of those musthave albums to me... it seems underrated. But if you dont like it thats cool.. there is a lovley cover so ...

Advantages: Timeless class of the seventies Disadvantages: none
A Day At The Races was the last great classic Queen album of the seventies.
Released in 1976 this is an altogether darker affair than the previous A Night At The Opera. Even the cover suggests the end of an era, with the characters on the front cover crest (which was designed by Freddie Mercury based on the bands star signs) seem to be leaving on the back of the cover.
The opening track Tie Your Mother down begins a moody journey that culminates ... ...sheer rock bring to life all the characters in the band each stamping his authority on their own tracks.
The overlooked Somebody to love was seen as Bohemian Rhapsody lite but is a worthy classic in its own right The thunderous White man was a statement of the Native Indian plight with a second silence at the very end of the song before a drum roll shatters the silence. Sheer brilliance. The band always had detractors but there was no one delivering ...

Advantages: the japanese song, Teo Torriate Disadvantages: It all ends too soon!
This has been my favourite Queen album for a long time now. Don't get me wrong, I love the other albums and the variety they offer, it's just this one sends shivers down my spine from the second I press play. Even though (I feel) songs like 'You take my breath away', 'Millionaire's Waltz' and 'Teo Torriate' have been severely underrated they're worth a listen if you like the more grandiose of Queen's songs...Then there's the classic 'Somebody to ...
