...was St. Anger. So yes, Death Magnetic. It's a stonking album, one that clearly puts Metallica right back on the top of the metal tree. At 75 minutes long, this is about as epic as your going to get, with all of the songs being 5 minutes plus, and some straying very close to the double figures minutes mark. This album is significant as it marks the first time new bassist Robert Trujillo, joins the usual line-up of James Hetfield on vocals and rhythm ... ...distant memory. The announcement of Death Magnetic didn't exactly have me clicking on pre-order instantly as a result of the last 3 albums. Nevertheless, I was intrigued. When I did go out and get it on release date and first put it into my CD player (didn't have the patience to wait until I got home and put it on iTunes) I was transported back to the good ol' days. Since Metallica's 'Black' album was released I felt that Metallica's music took a very steady downhill slide, with only a handful of highlights such as ... ...looked like the days of 'Master of Puppets,' or my favourite 'Blackened' were gone forever, lost in time… a bit like teardrops in rain… The 'Black' album (1991) sparked a journey of success for Metallic, though - and included the phenomenal hit 'Enter Sandman.'

In my honest oppinion this is an amazing album, ive not been a fan long but i have heard all of their albums they are simply an amazing band. When i first listened to this album i wasnt so sure how i felt but it grew on me now i listen to it quite a few times a day.

For the first Track i have to say what a brilliant opening to ... ...being in a mosh pit with that playing :D
The end of the Line:
This one didnt get my attention straight away. I think it has one of those beats that gets me all hyped up but once it gets further into it i get kinda bored.
Broken, Beat and scarred:
I love the Start of this track it gets my feet going to the beat and i start up the air guitar. i love the Rhythm of it and the lead guitar too. i recommend this to any metallica fan.

The only way Death Magnetic could have any relevence to Metallica is if James Hetfield dies before being able to release another album.
The album art for "Death Magnetic" is uninspired. There is a motif of an open grave with a metallic casket inside of it. Around the grave are flurries of black streaks emanating from it and surrounding it like a magnetic field. Which is a pretty cool image idea but the art quality looks like a first stage ... ...Pilots' song Creep.
All in all, don't buy Death Magnetic unless you absolutely need it to complete your Metallica Collection. If you're a first time Metallica fan, go for "Master of Puppets", "The Black Album" or "Load." They contain the essence of all the songs on "Death Magnetic" anyway. ...

...waited for the release of death magnetic since the day i heard st. anger. in my mind i believed that metallica couldn't come up with anything worse than st. anger. luckily i was right. eventhough death magnetic is definitely better than the previous album, can it be considered as a true 'metallica' cd? self plagarism. that's what comes to mind when you listen to metallica's new album. the day that never comes = fade to black & one that was just your ... ...7-8 minute long songs, whereas death magnetic offers nothing but traditional riffs that pretty much repeat on end. the song structures are definitely a lot less complex compared to what they used to be. most songs on death magnetic last more than 7 minutes, but all they have is a simple 'verse/chorus/verse' pattern instead of the 'long intro/heavy jam/verse/even heavier jam/chorus/bridge/insane solo/outro'. metallica probably wanted to sound 'raw' ...

Advantages: Not as bad as St. Anger Disadvantages: Not quite the next "Master of Puppets" they led us to believe it would be.
Metallica move on from the disappointing "St. Anger" to their new release "Death Magentic". Out go the dustbin lid drums and lack of solos, in are well crafted songs, some great solos from lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and far better production than "St. Anger". This album has more in common with the albums "Load" and ReLoad" in my opinion with little hints of the band's past classics "Master of Puppets", "Ride the Lightning" and "...And Justice For ... ...songs of the Load and ReLoad eras and the shortest song on the album is still over five minutes with the majority of the tracks 7 minutes-plus.
Opening track "That Was Just Your Life" starts the album off strongly with some very "Kill 'Em All" - era style riffs.
"The End Of The Line" is 7 minutes 52 seconds of brutal guitars and some almost Slayer-esque vocals from James Hetfield. The opening section wil lbe familiar to anyone who saw Metallica ...

Advantages: Kirk's Solos back, songs more varied and better than St Anger, a couple of epics. Disadvantages: Not as good as some over-the-top reviewers have said.
...also a stand-out song on Death Magnetic, in some ways, it's sad to see them take such a move away from the old Unforgivens, however what they have created is outstanding. Despite some good quality songs on this record, there are a few that aren't bad, but turn into a drag when your listening to them. Songs like Broken, Beat and Scarred take a while to get into after the somewhat slow start.
As a guitar player myself its a blessing to hear Kirk back ... ...most fans would agree that the absence of the guitar solos was a key reason for the disappointment of St Anger. Despite all these positives, we shouldn't be too optimistic. There has been a lot of speculation that this album would be a 'Neo-Master of Puppets.' In my opinion, this album is a good piece of work that shouldn't be judged in that way, as that will only let down a lot of hyped Metallica fans. The Metallica sound has evolved too much to ...

With "Death Magnetic", Metallica are back and in blistering form. Gone are the angst driven Nu-Metal riffs and music sans guitar solo's in the form of "St. Anger", this is pure thrash, well as thrash as Metallica are probably ever going to get this side of 1986. This album is spectacular if you have heard their last few offerings, which in turn weren't entirely bad just not what Metallica really stood for. This album starts as it wishes to continue, ... ...lyrics second. You will not find very many thought provoking lyrics on this record, what you will find is intriqueing riffs and layered guitar solos that rival the work they did in the mid 80's. For those fans that prefer their works such as "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets" and "...And Justice for All" this album may be for you. Advantages: Music getting back to the roots of metallica, when they were at their best Disadvantages: Vocals and mix of the album too modernised, just doesnt have that rawness.
Had high hopes for this album and had been getting excited about it for absolutely months. I only got more hyped when they releases The Day That Never Comes which showed a rather "...And Justice For All" sound to it, with a bit more rock though. Fantastic. Its only after listening to the entire album that you're left feeling as if you should like it, and you do, but you dont love it. I found myself listening to it and thinking this is really great ... ...me, it just wasnt there. Almost all Metallica fans that i read reveiws from or blog posts were calling for a return to that album but its only really there in the last parts of the songs. The Lyrics are the other main thing that i think mainstreams this album like Metallicas other more recent albums. They are close to returning to Master Of Puppets in terms of whats written down but the vocal performance deffinately feels like its still stuck in ...

...album just see the name, Death Magnetic, which revolves around the death. Death Magnetic is clearly one of the candidates the best album of the year, but is not equivalent to the best of all albums of Metallica, it is clear that neither criticism nor the fans wanted "remakes" of the pearls of the band, but you can see that even with better than Load / Reload and St. Anger is not the same guys of the decade of 80/90. Speaking a little of the music ... ...Never Comes, the criterion for this choice must have been music to be more diverse, but diverse and so that we at one time we lost in the music, personally to choose first single Cyanide The Judas Kiss or two of the best tracks on the album. ...be ...And Justice For All. Death Magnetic which topped the charts in its first week of being released contains 10 tracks, most showing a glimpse of Metallica in their former glory. Its hard to pick a favourite song out of the album, each song has its distinctive factors that make them great, for example the first track 'That Was Just Your Life' starts off slow to build up the tension with a heart beat before kicking in with a killer riff that will ... ...completion of the Unforgiven trilogy. Although this song doesn't start in the same way as the other two it none the less kicks ass with arguably the best solo of kirk's career.
The cover looks cool but the fact that to create the 3D effect they have cut through the lyrics makes it annoying to say the least.
In conclusion this is a great ablum with some kick ass songs and would highly recommend it to any metallica fan. ...

Death Magnetic is by far one of the best albums of 2008, Metallica are definetly back to there best, it isn't quite as good as Master Of Puppets but it's there best album since, usual Metallica sound, tight rhythm playing and the comeback of Kirk Hammetts lead playing is a welcome come back, All Nightmare Long has a definite old school Metallica sound and the re-introduction of an instrumental track is also pleasently received, James Hetfields playing ... ...is also fantastic, definetly a great replacement for Jason Newsted
and is finger picking style brings back the old school sound Cliff Burton used to bring to Metallica albums. I would recommend this album anyone looking for a great metal album and it's a great insight into how far Metallica have come over the years as songwriters ...

They are back with old formula taken from "Master of Puppets" or "And Justice For All". Are those formula still valid in 2008? To tell you, this album is filled with guitar solos, more than 6 minutes per songs and it DOES better than the last 3 albums. But somehow i found that they are trying too hard to go back to Master of Puppets era, I can't say that there is something new here. It's not boring, but I can't stand to listen to more than 3 songs. ... ...album is LOUD. Too loud. It's fatiguing. If you search over the net, you'll find that the version released for the game Guitar Hero sounds less tiring. This album is a pretty good effort but does not meet my expectations.They should try to find something suitable for this era. New fans of Metallica, get their old albums too! ...
