To be honest, when I knew Alicia's second album was coming out I was dubious. I certainly didnt rush to the shops to buy it. After the success of Songs in A minor, I was concerned that its successor would be a weak follow-up. Overall I was proved wrong. Advantages: Really calming, the girl can sing!
Disadvantages: It won't play on my Mac, Whatever happened to including lyrics in albums?

I first got this album for Christmas. I had only heard 'you don't know my name' at that point. I was pleasantly suprised to find that I enjoyed almost every track on the album, my immediate favourites being 'when you really love someone' and the fantastic (but so over-played) 'if i ain't got you'. ...proved that she could. The diary of Alicia Keys, once again stretches Alicia's originality in songwriting, producing and her vocal ability. She presents to us an updated Motown feel that this century is lacking in the charts.. If you love your slow jams, then by all means you will just love this album. its one of those albums that you can leave in your cd player for months without skipping a track and play it every day until your hi-fi even gets ... Alicia Keys' new album is back! and it offers the most amazing tracks ever. Firstly just to say that in most of these tracks, she demonstartes her piano skills and they truly captivate anyone who understands music, her singing is great and she has already won lots of awards such as grammy awards for this album. One of my most favourite If I Aint Got You and You Dont Know My Name because these songs are sung with alot of feeling and emotion ... Read review

I Didn't think it quite matched up with "Songs in A Minor" but still i enjoyed listening to this album. my favorite tracks would be : Streets Of New York, You Don't Know My Name & If I Was Your Woman/

Disadvantages: Not enough Alicia!

If you enjoyed her previous (Songs in A Minor) then you will adore this. Tracks include, 'You Don't Know My Name,' 'If I Ain't Got You' and 'Karma.' I was very excited about getting this CD as I love her other one, and was not disappointed in the slightest. The lyrics in the song are so wonderful; Alicia writes plenty of her tracks and is no doubt wonderful on the piano. I must admit she is hitting the 'solo' gig repeatedly over the head. ... I really can't imagine my record collection without this CD. Alicia Keys came on to the scene with her first UK single, Fallin taken from the Songs in A Minor album. This beautiful girl sat in front of a piano and all that she had was a melody and that rustic soul voice. I love that her style is slightly older than her years. For me the most impressive track on this album is If I Aint Got You. To me it reveals an account of what a girl's life would ... Read review

i bought this album when it came out, and i thought that ms keys had such a beautiful and lovely tone to her voice, the album was very soul full and you could tell thay she was singing from the soul, i could relate to some of the things that she was saying. it's a beautiful album and i would recommend it to anyone that loves their soul r&b music or someone that just doesn't know what they looking for. if you haven't already got this album go out ... We all know that Alisha keys has a powerful voice, Alisha can sang and her voice can bring tears to your eyes. Her single to this album was "Karma", and the title of the song basically explains what the whole song is about, what goes around comes around, "Karma". ...they are both excellent!! The diary of Alicia Keys is perfect for a quiet night in, a romantic meal or just to chill out with. I also find it the perfect gift for a female friend. Advantages: Asouful songtress with a lot of heart
Disadvantages: songs seem to be replay the same kind of formula

Though Alicia Keys is a great soul singer her songs always seem to repeat themselves and smack of the same formula. There is no doubting that Alicia Keys has a great voice but whether she uses it in the right way seems interesting. On the follow up album i was looking for a little bit more growth withen her voice but found that all though they were different songs they were written in the same way.
