"Dookie" is renowned as Greenday's best effort and perhaps rightly so, although I personally find their earlier material such as 'Kerplunk!' just as entertaining. ...of my first albums, Dookie from Green Day, to write about. I had to buy it at that time it was released, since Basket Case was my absolute favorite song. By the album I was even so inspired that I wanted to be a punk. The only thing which remained is an oversize poster with the copy of the cover over my bed. But now to the songs.

...Angry, energetic, and endearingly honest, Dookie is an album for anyone who’s ever loved and lost, fought with their own psyche or remembers what it was like to be a teenager.

“Apathy has rained on me now I'm feeling like a soggy dream, so close to drowning but I don't mind…” With its manic drum beats and frenzied guitar, this is a great song to start the album with. Advantages: An essential album for all Pop Punk fans out there of the world Disadvantages: 'Basket Case' irritates me no end
'Dookie' was the album that brought mainstream success to Green Day in the 90's. Released in February 1994 through Reprise Records it contains the hit singles of 'Welcome to Paradise', 'When I Come Around', and of course 'Basket Case'. Although it was the bands breakthrough album, it is not my favourite of theirs and it is in fact their 1995 follow-up release 'Insomniac' that appeals to me most of all their albums.
'Burnout' kicks the album off ... ...way through this album with some fantastically well produced Pop Punk music that is sure to impress. Whilst 'Basket Case' is perhaps the best known track from this release however, it does in fact grate on me no end and is one track that I always skip when listening to this album. I was never a huge fan of the track, but over the years I have heard it played on the music channels so many times that I have just come to entirely despise it. I do like ...

Advantages: best album of the 90s Disadvantages: none
Dookie is the Green Day album that gained them not only a huge following of fans, not only chart success (what for a punk band!) and for many punk purists the end of the road for Green Day. Dookie is by far their most successful album, but you can see why, this album is jam packed full of quality tracks, the even the general public would listen to!
Green Day started out as a little know Californian punk band. Once on the Lookout record label they ... ...record label they released a couple of albums including Kerplunk! (the best name for an album ever in my opinion) and 1039/Smoothed out Slappy Hours (What? You must be thinking!). The latter album is actually two EPs one called Slappy and the other called 1000 Hours and one album 39/Smooth (If you look at all the EP names and the album name you can see how they came up with the name). Green Day signed for the corporate record company Reprise and ...

...I don't care no more"), Dookie is one of the most excruciating, yet at the same time outright boring records you could ever try to listen to. It was released in 1994, and I'm sure many a person will spring to it's defence on this ground, stating that at the time it was a new sound, which is actually crap when you take into account that bands like NoFX and Rancid had been cutting around for quite a while, and Green Day are basically a diluted to the ... ...Now I'll come clean and admit that I hate the entire 'Neo-Punk' movement, but the fact is that to try and insinuate that Green Day started it is just stupid, it's like trying to say The Damned started Punk in the first place because they were the first band to actually release a record, in fact it's dumber, NoFX's White Trash,Two Heebs and a Bean outdates this by a couple of years and is of a similar, ie 3-chord wonder, sound, yet is much better. ...

...you will." Most songs on Dookie are guaranteed to whip the most apathetic mosh-pit into a frenzy, or make you drive a little faster if you happen to be in a car. After a while, you realize that most of the songs come from the exact same mold (they all have a drum-bass break two-thirds in), but by the time Dookie is over you couldn't care less. From walking amongst the dead to Nuking bridges this album, start to finish is fantastic! I heard this album was Green Day's best and now I've got it I agree. This album has some great tunes and some..... weird lyrics. With the catchy tunes 'Longview', 'Welcome to Paradise' and 'When I come around' this album is a great listen.

...the rest. In my opinion Dookie is the best Green Day album and well, every time I pull my beer-stained copy (not a copy copy, but an official one that cost me money) out of my CD rack I can’t help feeling a touch sentimental about it, for it is top quality party music and as such brings back many interesting memories, and some non-memories too! ~The midst’s of time~
Okay, so Green Day aren’t quite that old, in fact they aren’t ... ...So what makes Dookie so great? In my opinion it is Green Day at their best, the mixture of happy and silly punk tunes with some more conventional melodies, and songs can therefore build up to a climax it a peaceful manner before exploding with passion and noise. Along with Offspring and Rancid, Green Day spear-headed this new “school” of mainstream, popular punk, that achieved chart success through being silly yet meaningful (sounds like ...

Advantages: Great album, many people's favourite Green Day album Disadvantages: Some "album fillers" + some songs from a previous album
Dookie comes in close second on my list of favourite Green Day albums, just behind Warning (see my other op). The album has a lot of good songs, and is one you can listen to over and over again. The album has a timeless appeal to it. I received the CD for christmas 2000, as I did with Warning, and neither CD has left my CD player since.
I'll cut to the chase with the track information, and summarise it all at the end...
~Burnout (2:07)~
Straight ... ...Quite a short song, but FANTASTIC drum solos in the middle!!!
~Having A Blast (2:44)~
Another short and brilliant song. About a guy who wants to blow himself up with dynamite strapped to him, and killing everyone else, like a suicide bomber.
~Chump (2:54)~
OK, so they're getting slightly longer ;o) Catchy tune, but kinda depressing lyrics... "I don't know you but I think I hate you"...
~Longview (3:59)~
GREAT drums, fantastic bassline, lyrics ...

They incite riots at their concerts and other performances.

This is an amazing album. Yep...it is. I remember when this album exploded ontot the scene carving the punk scene to its best in 1994 alongside 'Smash' by 'the offspring.' The songs are so memorable on this that you will be humming, singing, air 'guitarin/drumming the tunes all day. The CD cover is great, really dudey cartoons and the pictures of the people themselves, Billie Jo, Tre and Mike, are really funny and a nice little picture of their personalities and humour. And this really is illustrated in their music, full of humour, quality playing and many other aspects.

I bought the album Dookie after a friend recommended Greenday to me. I chose to buy Dookie first as it had "Basket Case" on it, the only on of their songs I had heard. At first I didn't really like most of the songs, only "She" and "When I Come Around" stood out. Advantages: Exceptional in places. Disadvantages: Equally bad in other areas.
Judging by the artwork of the cover and inlay material alone, you might be forgiven for expecting this album to be yet another unlistenable, repetitive punk/grunge monstrosity, as so many other post-Nirvana punk bands have produced. It is a credit to its' authors that 'Dookie' is some way above this, certainly a little more intelligent than I expected. A notably anarchic, disaffected tone continues throughout the album, most prominently in the angst-ridden ... ...Blast' and 'Chump'. Powerful guitar riffs and pounding drums do little to dissipate this. 'Dookie's' primary strength lies in its' lyrics, something which cannot be said of the work of most other punk groups. The best lines have simple yet effective rhythms, often ignoring the convention of rhyme to achieve a lyrical balance more pleasing to the ear, less forced. Thankfully it is also largely devoid of screams, whoops and yelling. In terms of content ...

This album was in the sale in Our Price for about a fiver, and as I had unfortunately not been influenced by rock music in my younger years, and as my sister (who was with me) had, told me it was well worth a buy, I thought I would depart with a note.

Anyway, at that price the album was worth it. As soon as my sister drove us home, the CD was in the player, and Basket Case was beaming out the speakers straight away.
