Dysfunction - Staind

Look at it this way. Take a Nu-Metal band, get the fundamental elements of superb metal music, then ditch the rule book. Add soulful, reachable lyrics which almost everyone can relate to, and you've got a great band. You've also got Staind. Just to start off I would like to say the bands I like in general: Adema, Spineshank, Greenday, Deftones, System of a Down, Saliva, Dope. I would say Staind are in the top 3 of my favourite bands. However unlike the other people on here I prefer their first album 'Dysfunction' I also think 'Break the Cycle' is great though. ...lot heavier, emotional and sinister. Aaron Lewis (the lead singer) has a great mellow voice with lots of variety. He can sing and shout unlike some leader singers of metal bands. I admit I learnt of Staind from a mate (I had also heard 'outside' quite a bit. I got 'Break the Cycle' and loved it. I share the view of most people that 'Epiphany' is the best track by Staind. This album should be great addition to any rock-nu-metal fans collection. The stand out tracks are 'Outside' and the heart felt 'Waste' and the US single 'Its been a while'. These tracks are all relatively mellow but there are some louder tracks such as 'Can't Believe' which show their nu-metal roots clearly. They can also do ballads which Ephipany proves. They have the backing or the Rock superstar Fred Durst who sang with Aaron Lewis(Lead Singer) ...
...a bonus track at the end of the album. The lyrics are some what more intelligent that some of the other bands around at the moment like Papa Roach and Slipknot and even Limp Bizkit, they are on par with the intelligent Lyrics of the Deftones. Yes this isnt the most in your face rock album ever but its one of the best of recent times. ...
