Advantages: a wide mix of new indie music and some major hits of 2006 Disadvantages: you may already have alot of these songs
It seems just a little odd to write a review of a compilation album to me- after all the album IS a review of the musical year as seen from the people at NME magazine- but really this double album is a good showcase for some of the lesser known bands of the year and a good way to round up a good musical year as well as set the scene for the next...
First of - NME: well the speciality of the magazine is new, mainly indie/alternative music, so clearly ... ...reflect that kind of music. But in 2006 this was also the music that made a big impact on the charts- people who failed to notice the phenomenal debut of the arctic monkeys clearly weren't paying enough attention. what appears on the album is therefore a list of the major new bands of 2006- and some that i had never heard of at all! here's the track listing for this double album (we may be here a while-you get alot of music for your money):

Advantages: Value for money, Bands, Songs Disadvantages: all the same type of music( not a bad thin if your into that)
As another reviewer said and i feel it is a good point, it is a bit strange reviewing a compilation CD that is just a review of the best bands of last year voted for by NME. However it is a great compilation and includes some of the greatest songs and bands of last year For example Razorlight- America Snow patrol chasing- Cars Bloc Part- Here we are Etc SO this would make a great present if you do not know what to get someone as most people will ... ...do and this music is not really my favorite type and NME being a popular music magazines it will be most likely there will appreciate. Quick review of Essential Bands, The (NME Presents - The Brand New Collection) - Various Artists
An absolutely amazing CD courtesy of NME. It includes some of the best bands of the past year, including my personal favourites Dirty Pretty Things and Razorlight. With a mixture of well known bands and relatively new bands it contains al the essential songs for any indie kid, and the addition of a live track from the Arctic Monkeys it displays the talent of these bands to persuade people to listen. There are a few rubbish songs in my opinion, in the form of Snow Patrol, Keane and the Ordinary Boys, but as the rest of the alum is brillant this can be overlooked!! Top album, can't wait for the next one! ...
