Ex- Test Icicles member Dev Hynes is a lyrical genius. The verisimilitude of Dev's lyrics is so frank and real, and accessible to all. He writes about unreciprocated love, suicide, the banality of life and gives us a hopeful and comforting message if you're having a rough time- keep going, everything will be just fine. ...is in there, mixed in with soulful raw vocals, and a beautiful fingerpicked guitar. Even some clarinet for a kitsch accent. The best track on this album in my opinion is 'Midnight Surprise'. The video is very cute yet very tainted, which matches the song.
