Advantages: Genuine talent in song writing, catchy tunes, nice voice Disadvantages: can get repetative, filled with songs that could have been left out
Amy Studt may sound like a familiar name, but I'm guessing it is one of those names that you just can't quite remember where you heard it from. Dubbed the UK's version of 'Avril Lavigne', Amy Studt is a UK singer/songwriter whose debut album 'False Smiles' was released in 2003 achieving Gold status, selling over 200,000 copies peaking at number 18 in the UK Album Chart.
Her second album 'My Paper Made Men' was released in early 2008 to some critical ... ...Smiles' out and reminisce over this pop rock album. Can 'False Smiles' still appeal to an audience today or are new genres of Hip Hop and R&B taking over the music scene? **WHO IS Amy Studt? **
Born in July 1986, Amy Studt grew up in Bournemouth, where she has always been a passionate and enthusiastic musician, which led her to be able to sing, play piano and guitar, whilst having the musical score to write her own songs.
This is her debut album ...

Advantages: A few decent tracks... Disadvantages: ...but most of them are of the other sort!
...an album that gives you false hope as to it’s quality but turns out to be a real let down as once you get beyond those few decent tracks, there is nothing of that quality to back them up, and the majority of the album seems like a teenager having a moan to a backing track. If you do want to listen to someone who really is hacked off at life in general, try Avril Lavigne or, even better, Alanis Morrisette. If you want tracks with great pop hooks and ... ...this. Heck, even Busted, for all their air hostess obsessions, at least don’t get this sulky about being dumped.
If this were any other album, with a running time of 56 minutes and available for only £8.95 from Musica.co.uk, or £10.99 from Amazon to include the addition of “All I Wanna Do”, I’d be calling it pretty good value. Value for money is only good if you use the product to its’ full extent, rather than wanting to turn it off around half ...

Advantages: Good to chill out to Disadvantages: slightly repetitive
Amy Studt's debut album 'False Smiles' brings a real smile to my face whether I'm depressed or hyper!
Amy Studt was built up as the UK's version of Avril Lavigne, i personally found this to be an insult to her talent as i don't particularly like Avril's style as it seems to have gone down after the first few songs.
*Ducks lynching from Avril Lavigne fans! *
Anyway
Ok, I like this album because it's never failed to put me in i can do anything ... ...to dream! ;) ]
Superficiality showing through here, I’m going to review the casing before we proceed to the hidden talent within ;) You can see that the front cover has a rebellious looking portrait picture of Amy, the rest of the album is white, back cover has the track list with a picture of a tatty blue dress on a hanger suspended in the air against a pure white background. The CD is white with a white rose on it, which looks as though it's started ...

Advantages: Refreshing change to typical American pop girls! Disadvantages: Certain bad songs, but good ones far outweight them!
Amy Studt… yet another young wannabe wanting to follow in Britney’s footsteps out of America. Yet upon second glance her music isn’t of the typical teenage pop genre that saw Britney and fellow American Christina rise to fame… oh no, there’s much more to Amy Studt than meets the eye.
Just a Little Girl – her first single, seemingly an immature melodious song, I feel it’s not one of her best, elements of rock at times especially within the chorus, ... ...too little. (2/5)
Misfit – her second single released in the UK, again elements of rock do spring up throughout, this song has a much more catchy rhythm, quite fast paced and very beguiling! Similar to the first song with the structure, starting off fairly quiet and then reaching a crescendo in the chorus, concerned with not fitting in and could teach us all a thing or two about how to act when we don’t fit in! (4/5)
Under the Thumb – this is one ...

Advantages: Easy listening, thought provoking lyrics Disadvantages: couple of boring ballads
...to give her debut album False Smiles a listen. Pushing any pre-conceived ideas of "teen-scene" music to one side I was pleasantly surprised. It's one of those CD's that doesn't click until a few listens, then you just can't get it out of your system! Some of the songs have been co written by the likes of Gary Barlow, Cathy Dennis, Karen Poole (of Alisha's Attic). Here is my track by track review of False Smiles (released 30 June 2003)
just a little ... ...track, which was Amy's first official release. It starts off very slowly and quietly and opens out into a catchy protest of how she want's to be taken seriously as her own person, and not just a young person. Throughout the song, it switches from the quiet easy paced melody to the harder rocky lyric and back again. I give this 3/5

Advantages: Nice vocals, sublte style variance, easy listening Disadvantages: Over production, false image of skate rock
No I have to admit, that I bought this album only after reading in some newspaper that Amy Studt was billed to be the UK's equivalent to Avril Lavigne. Now as I quite enjoy Avril's music, I was quite excited about this particular album by Amy Studt. After listening to it, I have mixed emotions.
The album kicks off with the three singles, in order of release (Just A Little Girl, Misfit, Under The Thumb), none of which can really claim to be of the ... ...mis-placed attempts at angry pop, Under The Thumb is quite emotionally packed, and energy filled, with ska and electro-rock elements to the song. It is a peak which the rest of the album fails to match.
Rather than resembling Avril Lavigne, "If Only" would not be out of place on a Savage Garden album and "Beautiful Lie" reminds me of Ace of Base. Others are just pure pop, with your average pop ballad here and there.
It is just a pure shame that ...

Advantages: there's nothing else like it Disadvantages: a bit depressing
this album is full of surprises, and in my opinion the songs amy chose to be singles are no better than the album tracks, she should have released em ALL!!!
1. Just A Little Girl - Not Her Best 7/10
2. Misfit - Funny, and makes you wanna stand out from the crowd and be individual and a bit weird!! 8/10
3. Under The Thumb - Her Best single, very creative and the video helps the song! 10/10
4. If Only - I always skip over this song, as it's just ... ...shows her bitter and unforgiving side here, and it is very convincing - suits her. 7/10
6. Ladder in my Tights - One of the highlights of the album - where Amy confesses "Ooh there's a little bit of psycho in me, I confess" be afraid - be very very afraid!! 10/10
7. Carry Me Away - A tad bit bland - the chorus goes "na na na na na na na na na na na na na carry me away - TWICE" enough said!! 6/10
8. Happy Now - Gives me the thrills everytime!! ...

Advantages: Loads of really good songs. A great CD with lots of variety of songs Disadvantages: The album first released doesn't includ the 'all i wanna do song'. Make sure you get the second version
...the Cd you buy does!! False smiles is great to listen to when your feeling fed up. 'Ladder in my tights' is wicked. It instantly cheers you up if your feeling fustrated or angry or upset with some one. There are some sad songs to cry as well as some songs to dance to. Its the perfect album for every feeling you might ever have. Theres also a song about standing up for yourself when you are the target of bullying. This is a great CD and I recommend ...
