Advantages: Angelic Vocals Disadvantages: Not for everyone
Easy listening the music genre conjures up all kinds of images in ones mind, but mention a band like Morcheeba and that image may start to disintegrate. On the other hand the music they create, although found in the dance racks of any record store, could definitely considered as lounge music.
This is their third album that develops their mellow sound into a brighter happier sound, but still showing elements of their trip hop origins. Skye Edwards ... ...angelic voice, and it would be hard to disagree with this argument. A deeply routed lyrical album it is not, but there is still an underlying message to every track.
The album opens with “World Looking In”, a track with an underlying western twang, with a catchy chorus, but not as catchy as the second track almost anthem like in its chorus of “Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day,” a feel good track that is perhaps the most poppy ...

...of equal quality to previous tracks. Morcheeba are unquestionably progressing, mixing their talent with new ideas and managing to pull off great songs. If the next album can hit just somewhere between Fragments of Freedom and Big Calm, it may just be the greatest album for any fan to own. ...

Advantages: Skye is still singing Disadvantages: A little bit too Disco on some tracks
What a difference a few years make, it's still the same Morcheeba, the same smooth vocal form Skye and the 2 boys(?) providing that trip hop originality that first brought the trio to the attention. This time around though there is a disco feel to morethan half of the tracks on the album particularly "love is rare" and a more pop feel than ever before with "Be Yourself". The highlight has to be "love sweet love " which uses a Grandmaster flash(ish) ... ...a fan of Morcheeba you mightn't rate it as high as the first 2 releases but I've no doubt that they will gain lorry load of new fans with the single releases of this album. And they deserve it, not the greatest third album....but there ethos is still spot on. Nice.......... ...

Advantages: Short film on special edition, positive sound Disadvantages: Very different from previous albums
Morcheeba... New album, new look, new sound. If you really liked Who can you trust, and didn't like Big Calm as much, then you won't like this. Moving away from their trip-hop roots and towards hip-hop. From the unashamedly disco shallow end (a song proclaiming that if you write shallow songs or "dive into the shallow end you'll only bash your head" says Skye philosophically) to the poppy rome wasn't bulit in a day. One thing's for sure. If you're ...

Advantages: Mellow, cool, a great summer record! Disadvantages:
I'm a huge Morcheeba fan, I loved the first two albums and this one doesn't disappoint. Skye's vocals are as gorgeous as ever, and the melodies are as infectious and foot-tapping as before. Some of the tracks have a more mainstream 'pop' appeal this time around, in particular 'Rome Wasn't Built in a Day' (the debut single out soon) but I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Basically, a great summer record - stick it in the stereo and imagine ...

Review of Fragments Of Freedom - Morcheeba
After listening to to morcheeba's "who can you trust" and "Big calm" this new album released early July was a must buy for me. Although generally different to earliar albums these great funky electronic sounds mixed with a bit of hip hop for the ultimate in listening pleasure must go to the top of your to buy list. Look out for great new songs like "Love sweet love" featuring Mr Complex and "Love is rare". To sum the album up in one word its fantastic ...

Review of Fragments Of Freedom - Morcheeba
Advantages: Grabs the disco boogie by the hips, and shakes. Disadvantages: Crap cover
What a tip top collection of tunes. I was stunned by the first album, as it exceeded my expectations having seen them live just beforte it's release. I was then stunned by the second album, which took it in the same vein, but to a totally different destination, and this album has done it again. As for being the darker side of the English trip hop thing that happened off the back of Portishead a few years ago, they've always had a light and floaty ... ...to the dancefloor, and (can i take it to the bridge?) it's funktastic. It's printene funksoultripdisco, and it's not the kind of 400 bpm crap which has tried to dumb down dancing for the e-heads of the land. It's good, clever, musical stuff, played by real musicians, not these muppet head compsci djs who seem to have grabbed the british dance scene by the horn. The horn is home, to roost, with the Morcheeba of choice. Buy it - it's even better than ...

Advantages: Rome wasn't built in a day, bears repeat listening Disadvantages: not as good as Big Calm
...hoiday, so naturally I bought Fragments of freedom, which I think is a good album but not as good as the last album. It is good and there are a few fantastic tracks especially Rome wasn't built in a day which is an amazing track that really was worth the album price as it really does mellow me out and her voice sends shivers down my spine. However I find myself listening to 2 or 3 tracks and skipping the rest, If you haven't heard Morcheeba before, ...

Advantages: Excellent tunes Disadvantages: Difficult to follow up the fantastic 'Big Calm'
Now it took me a while to ease into Morcheeba, songs such as Tape Loop and Trigger Hippie were good but they did little to distinguish themselves from the dross flooding the market in the name of ‘Britpop’ when they first arrived on the scene. Of course then they produced the fantastic second album which for me is a unique album showing the dark side of trip hop and soul, featuring seductive rhythms and was in every way a ‘Big Calm’. With this in ... ...breath and I have say upon listening to it I was severely disappointed. No don’t get me wrong, its good, its very good compared to the uninspired music pumped out by the likes of Oasis these days, but for Morcheeba this is a let down. This album is happy; cheerful almost bouncy in places - gone are the days of trip hop they have now gone disco. The new single "Rome wasn’t built in a day" is good and you could probably bop around your handbag to it ...

...opinion changed and I bought fragments of freedom. With tracks like "World Looking In" and "Rome wasn't built in day" are uplifting. Maybe they have become more commercial and certainly providing a sound track for a car advert is not what I would have expected them to do. This album is a mixture of sounds which makes it so good. I think that this may be a bit of a girlie album given the lyrics to some of the songs about being treated with respect ...

Advantages: Premium quality music for makin' love. Disadvantages: Rap
I think that the artist could not be the same. Taste differ. I like this album very much but it's another kind of love that I feel to previous albums. This album maybe very commercial but everytime I listen to it my soul flies like a bird. It's easy and fairy. Nothing less- nothing more. It's all been done with love and care. My private opinion is that this album somewhere (I think soon) will be called "classic". The voice of Skye Edwards is like ...

Advantages: Great dance music, peacy and happy, moral Disadvantages: Abit too electronic and synthesised. Expensive to buy.
Fragments of Freedom by Morcheba is a brilliant album which you can listen to over and over again. The words all have morals such as if you're to shallow then you'll get hurt ( from the song "Shallow End" ). If you feel like relaxing after a stressful day or if you want calming dance music...this is the album for you.
The band manage to keep up the high standard of their other albums and the album in general is almost flawless. Of course there is ...

...Portishead's Dummy its paranoid night, Fragments Of Freedom just might be its long-overdue Saturday afternoon. Melancholics will doubtless prefer the hazily elegaic title track and hypnotic "World Looking In", but the album's real highlights radiate pure exuberance instead.
