Advantages: Nina's angelic voice, and the perfect blend of instruments to get you on the move Disadvantages: A few weaker tracks that stop the album from standing out.
The Cardigans are a 5 piece Indie/Pop/Rock from Sweden, and ‘Gran Turismo is their fourth album which was released in 1998. I seem to recall this album actually being the first CD I ever bought, and while it’s not been played quite so much recently it’s still an album I like to listen to every once in a while.
I had heard of them before this as some of you may remember one of their earlier songs ‘Lovefool’, which appeared on the soundtrack to Baz ... ...a shop I didn’t hesitate in buying it after just hearing that one song of theirs. While the album doesn't blow me away, I certainly don't regret my purchase.
The first track on the album is ‘Paralyzed’ which captures the essence of the song beautifully, as you’ll find yourself stopping your activities just losing yourself in its haunting sound and thought provoking lyrics. The song is very mellow with the drums and guitars in perfect harmony, allowing ...

♥ Biography
The Cardigans are a 5 piece band hailing from Sweden. The band are made up like so:
Nina Persson - vocals
Peter Svensson - guitar
Bengt Lagerberg - drums
Magnus Sveningsson - bass
Lasse Johansson - keyboard, acoustic guitar
This album was produced in June 1998, when the group collaborated with long-time producer Tore Johansson at his personal studio, Country Hell, which is located in Malmo, Sweden and recorded this album, ... ...than 2.5 million sales worldwide.
The reason I still think this warrants a review so long after release is because it's a classic - and although it's not perfect, it's still better than most of the recently released stuff by other similar bands.
♥ Track listing and rating
I'm going to do a standard track by track rating on this one, seeing as that's what people seem to like (if you don't then please tell me, 'cos I don't really enjoy writing ...

...to buy the latest Album Gran Turismo by The Cardigans. *the band
The swedish band started with their career in the year 1992 in Jonkopping, Sweden. After the five members of the band Lars-Olof Johansson, Bengt Lagerberg, Magnus Sveningson, Peter Svensson and singer Nina Persson went to Malmö they get their first contract and produced the album Emmerdale. I think that every Albums by the Cardigans should be recommended. But if you are not sure to buy one – buy this one: Gran Turismo. In my eyes it is the best Album the Cardigans ever made and the absolutely highlight of their career. The Cardigans developed their one style through the last years and sound now more perfect than ever.

...to The Cardigan's latest album, Gran Turismo, it becomes quite apparent that they've been listening to more than a few Massive Attack and Portishead cuts. Best known for their super catchy hit 'Lovefool', The Cardigans have followed up their earlier pop success with a darker record.
This pop, downbeat electronic work blasts off with 'Paralyzed'. Grinding feedback buzzes along as a programmed drum beat and countless synthesized effects drift across ... ...Gran Turismo.
Nina Persson, the group's lead singer, is the really highlight of the album. Her sparse lyrical arrangements are delivered flawlessly. The majority of the album may be suspiciously electronic, but Persson's voice, as always, manages to cut through each song with incredible warmth and emotion. This time, however the prevailing emotions aren't happiness and love. 'Do you really think / that love is gonna save the world / well, I don't ...

Not too many music magazines that I read liked this album too much, which is sad. They were probably comparing it too much to previous Cardigans albums. They should realize that no Cardigans album is like the previous, which is why they're so great. "Emmerdale" is just basic raw pop. On "Life" they get more diverse and are at their 'poppiest.' Then they get pigeon-holed as an ABBA wannabe just because of the single 'Lovefool' from "First Band on ... ...'Lovefool.' It also had a cover of Black Sabbath's 'Iron Man' and dark songs (though it's hard to sound dark with Nina Persson's voice) like 'Losers' and 'Step on Me.' The Cardigans carry that dark theme into "Gran Turismo," although there are some sweet ballads such as 'Higher' and 'Explode.' Then there's one of the best songs to race to, 'My Favorite Game.' The theme of the album really kicks in with the songs 'Do You Believe' and 'Paralyzed.' ...

Gran Turismo is an excellent album with a good mix of both fast paced and slow, melodic tracks.
The lyrics are always sublime from The Cardigans, and everyone knows "Favorite Game", made famous for its links with Gran Turismo the computer game on the PlayStation.
Erase and Unwind is another track on here that didn't do as well as you'd expect in the British charts, even though it is undoubtedly the best track on there.
If you haven't heard The ...

This album is one of the treasures of my CD collection as are 'The Cardigans' one of my favourite bands. Nina Persson's vocals are a dream to listen to, the lyrics are inspirational and the music is scintillating. 'Erase and rewind' is beautifully done without sounding sickly and 'My favourite game' is a fantastic 'perfect to drive to' song, in fact 'ITV' used it in the closing titles of the 1999 Formula one championship so that should say something ...

Advantages: Some great music on this album Disadvantages: Some passionless tracks
I was all set to buy this album a couple of years ago until I read a review of it stating that this was not vintage Cardy music...... IE, that "My Favourite Game" was just a one-off hit and nothing else on the album could match it. So, I held off buying it.......and then "Erase/Rewind" came out which was an equally moody rock track and I *HAD* to buy the album! The album is pretty good but in my opinion the 2 tracks mentioned above are just *SO* ... ...the album. "Paralyzed" certainly comes pretty close to moody rock perfection and "Do You Believe" is a great drum driven dance/rock track. Don't get me wrong, the rest of album is fine but the vocals sort of sound too similar to the other tracks.....which can make you switch from thinking the vocals sound moody to thinking they sound passionless. ...

Advantages: a few nice songs Disadvantages: everything else
The cardigan's latest album has no surprises, essentially, if you liked everything they've done then you'll like it. However, as a person looking for a sub-genre of basic pop music you will be vastly dissapointed.
The album tries much to hard to be fashionable, and innovative and, in my opinion, fails to be either. After only a few plays the lead singers voice becomes on par with nails to a blackboard and the drum-lines, especially are incredibly ... ...if people just want standard cardigan's tunes, this is prime stuff, featuring the singles 'Erase/Rewind' and 'My Favourite Game' other o.k. trakcs include the mesmorising 'Explode' and the quite good 'Higher'.
However, the instrumental, 'Nil' is appalingly bad, trying to be fashionable, but it sounds like the tracks has been recorded using a £10 microphone placed in the corner of the room (it probably was - just to be 'arty' - yawn).
Very unimpressing, ...

...songs on the album. Gran Turismo certainly provided this surprise. From the stirring sounds of the first song, “Paralyzed” to the somewhat haunting chords of the last track, “Nil,” the album is full of songs which will get into your head and stay there. You’ve probably heard the singles “Erase/Rewind” and “My Favourite Game”, and they give you some idea of the kind of material which is on the album. Although most of the songs have a rather dark feel, ...

Advantages: Great, great songs! Disadvantages: None
This album is excellent. The songs on here range between completely in your face rocky kind of stuff, and then quite mellow soft songs. The song writing is first class, and every inch sounds like the group know how to play their instruments and play them well..
It's good music, good songs, good melodys and good vocals throughout. You just can't help but like this album. My Favourite Game is by far one of the best songs on the album as is also Erase/Rewind.

...years. Not so with Gran Turismo. Released around four years ago, it was by far the best album of 1998.
The songs on the album range from "bouncy" rocky style (My Favourite Game) to far more mellowed rexaed stuff (Higher), and then there is the totally thought-provoking first track - (Paralyzed).
A superb album by a superb group, who deserve a lot more credit than they recieve. Can you see Hear'say producing material like this? Exactly. ...

the cardigans have a lot going for them, they have a babe as a lead vocalist and they write some decent pop tunes, so why aren't they much bigger over here? search me, if you like the singles my favourite game and erase/rewind then you are going to love this album to bits, not all the songs are to my personal liking but im sure that there is something for everyone here, take for istance hanging around, a sort of kim wilde on acid tune which is funky ...
