...My mummy bought me “Texas- Greatest Hits” for revising for some exams, I think she chose it because it happened to be in the top sellers list in Safeway when she was shopping, I wasn’t really a fan of Texas before this and I have always thought the lead singer was a little plain and dull not the flashy attractive extrovert stars that would stand out in a crowd. I mean she wears nice shirts and jeans the sort of clothes I would wear ... ...be pleasantly surprised. Greatest Hits feature the songs In Demand

Advantages: Good mix of both older and newer tracks, has "Inner Smile" which has just been released as a single Disadvantages: Not worth buying if you already have all of those albums

I received my Texas greatset hits album off my partner for christmas and was really happy as I had wanted the album since its release. I took the album to work with me and played it before the store opened and all the staff started singing to the tracks as they are so well known and very catchy and also for any age group.
The album has 18 tracks and are all layed out clearly on the back of the cd case aswell as a sticker on the front giving just ... ...buy the album.
Each and every track is excellent in quality and sounds fantastic and they go something like this.

Texas have been around for a long time and the quality and longevity of the band are evident in bucketfuls on these Cd's. The first CD contains all of the tracks that will have heard repeated on the radio over the years, and still each one stands out as fresh as ever they were. Advantages: A perfect potted history of an enduring pop band's mixed career Disadvantages: Early releases are largely ignored, and it's definitely tailored to their new-found audience that came onboard with White On Blonde
...approach with this this perfectly-timed Greatest Hits CD. 1999's The Hush proved that White On Blonde's achievements were no fluke, and wisely this CD plays to their commercial strengths, even if it does attempt to rewrite their past in the process.
With a bounty of recent Top 20 hit singles to choose from, it was never on the cards that Texas would seek to include some of their earlier, rockier, releases. And so the absence of In My Heart, You ... ...not unexpected. The 3 new recordings, including the so-so Top 10 single In Demand, all point towards a greater emphasis on club sounds in their music, with Inner Smile bordering on joyous disco. By arranging the tracks in a mon-chronological order, the progression from country-tinged power pop to the slick model of nowadays is muddied, and in truth I'd have preferred to hear these songs in the order they were hits. Texas are one of those bands who keep coming back with a new sound and a new album every couple of years and they must have a few years in them yet. Despite this, I would recommend this to anyone- it's fairly neutral and playable without being too bland and there's always a song that someone likes by Texas. I haven't got any of their other albums as I'm not a massive fan so I would tell anyone in the same situation to go out and buy this as it is ... ...find on any usual album, plus, you know most of the tracks so it's a pretty safe bet.
The only thing I don't like is the first track which is just my personal preference, but it means that I have to start at track 2 every time I put it on! Have a listen, you're bound to like some of it. ...

...They have now released their Greatest hits album, and even those who have thought Texas are not a band you can listen easily are satisfied. There are no weak links. All the favorites like "Say what you want", "Halo", "Inner smile", "In our lifetime", and "I don't want a lover!
My first experience of Texas live was the Radio 1's one big sunday in Ipswich in August. Texas did a mini 20 min set after the event, and the crowds that had stood for over ... ...into the park and promised to come back. Sharleen was thrilled to perform in Ipswich, but not as much as the crowd were thrilled to see Texas! Their music appeals to all ages, and their songs have been on many compilation albums such as the "Now thats what I call music" collections, "Top gear Anthems" collections and numerous others. Most Greatest Hits albums really should be 'Once in a Lifetime', and Texas' really is great. However, if they continue to produce the high quality music of the past few years, then they should be going from strength to strength. 'The Greatest Hits' is an album packed with the recent successes... play it to a friend who thinks they don't know anything but 'Once in a Life time' and you'll soon find they keep on going 'I didn't know that they did this...' ... ...I wasn't Texas' greatest fan before buying this, in fact, it was on an offer from a website that I managed to get the album for a fiver that persuaded me to buy it. However, I'm now definately going to look through the back catalogues... The best thing about the album is that you can just see it lasting for years and years. The best music never dates, but 'Once in a Lifetime' - I, for one, hope we see more... ...

I think that Texas while music has changed Texas have changed with and stayed good. This just gets better every time I listen to it and it is in my cd all the time. Christmas is one of those times where lots of greatest hits and special edition cds come out but I think that Texas is well equipped to see ...

Advantages: all your faves! It's Texas! Relaxing, soothing, and at times even moving! Disadvantages: last song is a complete waste of time
Only with White on Blonde did I really begin to appreciate Texas, and their follow up album, the Hush, was no disappointment. It's hard to describe Texas really. The front woman, Sharleen Spiteri(I've spelt that wrong haven't I?), has an exceptionally clear voice, it's deep and sultry really, and accompanies the music the rest of the band play perfectly. The album does consist mostly of their recent hits, but starts of well with 'I don't want a lover...' ... ...other hits that aren't off their last two albums shows a certain change in style, and for the better, although their earlier hits were by no means bad. The inclusion of their two most recent songs(not on any other album) is also a real treat, because personally they are my favourite tracks ever released by the band(inner smile, and in demand). You get 18 tracks on the album, which I enjoyed very thoroughly until the last one, which suddenly introduced ...

Advantages: good mix of music, excellent vocals from Sharleen Disadvantages: weighted towards their recent past
...and then listened to the Greatest Hits to see what they were all about. After only having heard the songs which made it more recently into the charts, such as Black-Eyed Boy, Inner Smile and In Demand, I knew I liked their more recent stuff, but would I like the older material? There is not a great deal of the older material on the album but what was there, I loved. The earlier stuff is a bit more rock orientated but great nonetheless. I especially ... ...cover of Al Green's Tired of Being Alone which is from the earlier Rick's Road album.
This album is a great way to get into a band who you might have known only by their recent hits and will probably then enourage you to buy some of the earlier albums.

...an under rated band whose greatest hits are some of the greatest songs of recent times. There is something for everyone from "I Don't Want A Lover" to a brilliant cover of "Tired Of Being Alone"
It's an album I can put on whenever however I am feeling. Unlike many albums there isn't a single track which I skip or don't enjoy listening to. It's an uplifting album for all but the most hardened rock fans. ...

I remember Texas from 1988 when 'I Don't Want A Lover' came out, it was hugely popular, they were destined for the top and then they disappeared into obscurity. It was curious that they seemed to be a one hit wonder but then a few years later they came crashing back into the chart cosmo.
The album is mainly made up of their instantly recognisable chart hits, so if you like most of the top 40 singles they've released, then this is the album for you. ... ...the hits which are reasonably good and obviously from their previous albums.
I'm not an avid Texas fan but I do enjoy their music, and they've had some great hits over the last few years and deserve their belated chart success.
I got the album in Woolworths for a very reasonable £9.99 and it basically takes the best of their previous albums and kindly rolls it into one CD for you. ...
