Advantages: His best yet, hardly a foot wrong. Disadvantages: WEll, if you don't like him you may not agree!
…he who must be obeyed! This latest album from Marilyn Manson is by far his best yet, as is the live show that goes with it. Both musically and lyrically this album comes together nicely with some impossibly catchy tunes considering the genre in which it sits. I often wake up singing some of these tracks (but then I have always been strange!)
To be fair, although I am greatly impressed with this album it does go slightly downhill in the final third, ... ...shouldn’t be released but it seems stretched to a point then finally drawn back into line with the final couple of tracks. But, hey, some people may disagree!
To me this shows more obvious Alice Cooper/ Heavy rock/Metal influences than his previous albums which have concentrated on being more weird and “gothic” – however you want to define that. This album also displays the fact that Manson DOES NOT simply growl and sneer but he SINGS and whispers ...

OI! Ciao!! "In the shadow of the valley of death"... "In the valley of the shadow of death" would just be plain daft!

And so it ends. My final Marilyn Manson review for the foreseeable future. In a sort of fittingly accidental fashion, I’m finishing at the end. Hollywood “In the shadow of the valley of death” (Cheery) is Manson’s current release, although as it was released in 2000 and he’s just finished ... ...finds it’s way into my friends CD collection and then eventually into my ears.
As it stands though, this is Marilyn as up to date as he gets, indeed not to long ago this album won album of the year at the Kerrang! awards (Mumble mumble Sunna should have won mumble groan). So I guess it should be pretty good then. Although, when I think about it – Slipknot won best band, so maybe it won’t be very good…

Advantages: Some great tracks, and a great cover Disadvantages: A few, slower tracks
Wandering around virgin, I was desperately looking for a new cd to buy. I wasnt really sure what I wanted, but I knew it was something different, to make a change from the re-runs of muse, and such like. I saw a small collection of Marilyn Manson albums and thought I would have a quick flick through, as with pretty much every single artist in the metal section - much to the disapproval of the staff.
Having already got and listened to several Marilyn ... ...getting. The persona of Marilyn Manson is often portrayed as psychotic, and deranged. However, when all is said and done this is just a metal album. Having said that, the cover of this album isnt exactly helping my logic. Featuring a male body, that has been tied to a wall by prison-style shackles, sunken eyes and the lower jaw missing. There is a sketchy/ slightly unfocused look to the cover, I personally think the this all creates a forboding image, ...

...at Manns Chinese Theatre in Holy Wood watching The Matrix. I've been a fan ever since, enjoyed him in concert (what a performer, buy the DVD) and have to say that his lyrics have a lot of relevance in my life.
This album is the third in a trilogy of albums that began with Antichrist Superstar and was followed by Mechanical Animals. Not only is it difficult for any artist to write an opus of an album where every song on it inter-relates with each ... ...the CD, kind of the holy trinity in terms of the three albums and the three corrupters of society.
John F Kennedy's assasination. This is a continuing and strong theme referenced throughout the album, coupled with John Lennons murder and he ties it all in to the media and his ongoing disection of religion very well. He talks about medias target audiences and how fame is only eternal if you die on TV because that's the only way to become a martyr ...

Advantages: A high level of lyrical intelligence, terrific vocal power. Disadvantages: A couple of weak tracks.
'Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death)' is the fourth full length studio album from Marilyn Manson, a nineteen track construction of music and one that has a run time of over an hour in length. It's really quite a powerful piece of music, a well put together album and one that features many excellent tracks. The album tackles subjects such as religion, fame, and gun crime also; the lyrical content of the album is strong and always Marilyn ... ...with 'Godeatgod', the first of many tracks to reference God in the title of the track alone. It's a decent way to start the album, not the best track on 'Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death)' but certainly a strong one nonetheless. The lyrical content of the track lays our clearly what you can expect from the rest of the album; the fickleness of fame is spoken about here, the 'plastic' nature of people and God and guns do of course also ...

...to say and so on. Holy Wood is the third instalment of his triptych which also includes Mechanical Animals and Antichrist Superstar. Yes Holy Wood is in fact a sort of prequel – (1: Holy Wood, 2: Mechanical Animals 3: Antichrist Superstar.)
Before my first listen I expected the album to more closely follow the standard makeup of songs these days (ie. Intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, chorus, chorus) and during the opening track GodEatGod ... ...riff…but… it never happened. The song finished and the tension and feeling of bursting anticipation was left intact, I knew at that moment that the album was something special and not a ‘lets give them what they want to hear’ deal.
With twenty tracks including the bonus acoustic version of The Nobodies, the album is a brutal, yet extremely clever and incredible musically onslaught. Tracks such as The Love Song, Target Audience, ...

Advantages: A mellower side to Marilyn Manson Disadvantages: Some songs sound a bit samey.
...the latest Marilyn Manson album, Holy Wood (In The Shadow of the Valley of Death) was released last year, I could not believe it.
The style adopted by the band has gone through tremendous changes with good albums such as the techno mad "Mechanica Animals" and their worst effort "Smells Like Children" (let us never speak of that album again!)
This album is by far more mellow than previous records before it. However, there is still that heavy rock ... ..."The Fight Song" (which rocked live!).
The album's more mellow contrast to the norm is found in songs such as the acoustic version of "The Nobodies" and "In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death" which both in their own right are amazings songs. This unique side to Manson, never before seen is an interesting and exciting development. Especially for the songs which have more of a "Staind" 'lighter in the air' feel about them.
The album itself, a 20 ...

The first thing I have to say, is that Manson's album is soooooooo good value for money. I removed the cardboard cover/pocket and looked on the back of the cd case, to my amazement, the CD includes 20 tracks for the normal price of a 12 or 13 track CD.
Anyway, value for money doesn't make a good album. This album is classic, dark, atmospheric metal/rock. 'Holy Wood' is an aggressive album with some really good songs. The songs are varied from melodic ... ...Manson is known best for.
My favourite songs are 'Cruci-fiction in Space', 'The Fight Song', and 'President Death'.
Throughout the whole album, there is atmosphere and darkness. I cannot say that I dislike one of the songs and the bonus track ('The Nobodies' Accoustic version) is soooooo good.
The self proclaimed Anti-Christ Superstar, continues his quest to show up Christianity with the album title 'Holy Wood', and the songs 'Godeatgod', 'Cruci-fiction ...

Advantages: great music that has a point Disadvantages: none
Holy Wood (in the valley of the shadow of death) is an outstanding achievement. Each of the tracks is worth being the title track on most albums. To complement the excellent music are Manson's acute and pointed comments on our society. This is not an album that sounds angry for the sake of it. Every issue that most artists are simply afraid to mention is exposed explicitly. There is nothing that Manson wont say, and for that alone the album is well ...

Holywood is Marilyn Manson's latest album and the last adding to the trilogy of albums which was released in Nov 2000. With this one he has gone back to the darker, rock sound than his previous album of Mechanical Animals which was more galm rock inspired.
There are always different inspirational ways that the band like to use while creating the tracks, with this one they use Harry Hudini’s house to write some of the tracks as well as spending ... ...influence of absinthe. There has been two singles releases from this album which were ‘Disposable Teens’ and ‘Fight Song’. These singles are quite up tempo from some of the other tracks on this album and have been the most successful of the bands career in this country. This album is amazing, its nice to see Manson back to normal after Mechanical Animals. Every song on this album is good enough to be released on single. A lot of people would say this album was better than Antichrist Superstar. Manson talks about important issues and makes a reason to be angry in his songs, he doesn't just scream and shout because he want's to be classed as heavy metal, like a lot of metal bands do. this is the latest album from the dark metal band, a more mellow laid back approach to their sound. there are a few good songs on the album that you will most likely have stuck in your head for a while but it is easy to get bored of this album. it doesn't stand a chance when up against the classic anti-christ superstar and mechanical animals. with the english version having nineteen tracks, it became a week album rather than a value for money album. ... ...the poorer tracks and left the rest, this could have been a damn good album but i think it was overdone. best track is the acousticesque "lamb of god". it is easy to listen to and has great potential as a single however it is more of a mellow feel for mazza. the album does contain the classic "disposable teens" and the opening track "god eat god". these are most definitely the strongest on the album.
is it worth buying? yes i think so, but only ...

This CD, from the god of what was it(?), is absolutley nothing like what I would have expected from Manson.I was expecting something a little weird with some bizzare vocal effects with heavy drums and guitar, but actually what you get is a more mellow, interesting and actually meaningful album. This album is the final of a trilogy, the story apparantly being the creation and evolution of the wormboy in Antichrist Superstar, the finding himself and ... ...this album he is reflecting on what has happened to him and why it happened throughout his journey. Easy to understand really considering he is blamed for a lot of bad things that happen in America.
This is truly a first class album and well worth buying for any rock fan. I say rock because this album is a little too soft to be called heavy metal in my opinion, but evry time you listen to it you find somehting new that you didn't hear before. Also ...
