Advantages: Original and so awesome you just have to believe me! Disadvantages: They often get compared to Limp Bizkit, don't let this put you off, because they are so much better !
Well what can I say ? Linkin Park ..... quite simply are amazing. And to think I only discovered them by accident. Here is how the story begins .....

Advantages: only i had to hear it Disadvantages: too many to list
On the advice of a friend I went out to HMV and bought ‘Linkin Parks’ album ‘Hybrid Theory’, I took it home, turned it on, sat down and almost vomited in terror. What the hell was I listening to? Why? My ex friend assured me he had meant well but I found it hard to believe that a fellow metal fan had put his trust in a bunch of talent less metaller wannabes with silly hair. As for the back of the album where they stand around ... ...I was shocked and saddened that Metal has once again been brought down by another pop/punk/metal confused American cash cow. Amid rumours that the band is manufactured (which they strongly deny) they released ‘Hybrid Theory’, which doesn’t help dispel rumours as they look and sound like a slightly heavier version of ‘East17’.
But it is not just the image it’s the music as well, they even fail to get the sound ...

Advantages: Excellent blend of different music styles! Disadvantages: Album is too short
The band for 2001 has to be Linkin Park. Their debut album ‘Hybrid Theory’, released last year is a breath of fresh air for the rock music community. The band who site some of their influences as Deftones and Nine Inch Nails have combined elements from these bands but have added so much more using their extreme talent. The diversity found not only within the album as a whole but throughout each song is absolutely unique. The band members ... ...Mike Shinoda emceeing and additional backing vocals from drummer Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson on guitars and bass and Joseph Hahn provides the records and sampling.
Linkin Park’s music is based upon a ferocious heavy rock sound with hip hop/rap vocals and electronic futuristic influences – a unique combination to herald Linkin Park’s trademark style. The lyrics behind their music are as powerful as their sound, speaking from truth ...

Advantages: highly recommended for the 'new' rock fanatic Disadvantages: dunno
...album, around about £12.99.
Hybrid Theory is the title of the album, it is a grey coloured casing with a blacked out soldier carrying a flag on the front cover. The inlay card carries the usual who is who and who does what, the titles of the songs and general thanks and praise from each band member. The album is made up of 12 songs; (in order) Papercut, One Step Closer, With You, Points of Authority, Crawling, Runaway, By Myself, In The End, A Place ... ...and creates a dark atmosphere. Hybrid Theory’s songs are extremely similar, I have only noticed a few different styles of song although you can’t really blame them for this, I mean how many different ways are there to put across a rock song.
The lyrics are based around the usual rock style, I’m suffering and I’ve had enough. Describing the struggles of life (which is too be expected, you wouldn’t want to hear them talk ...

Advantages: Great album, brilliant mixture of rap and heavy metal. Disadvantages: Disappointed that there are only 12 tracks on the album.
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory - Warner Bros The first time I heard this band was when `One Step Closer' was on the radio. I didn't really bat an eyelid about them until I saw the video for `Crawlin'. I really enjoyed watching the band jump about but I also really liked the song. This persuaded me to listen for their songs a bit more and when I heard `Paper Cut' it convinced me to go out and buy this album. I would compare this album a lot to Limp Bizkit ... ...is also not as heavy, it has a much mellower side to it. Also the rapping style in the album is far superior to that of Fred Durst. The way the band mixes between rap and rock is brilliant, a true testament to the talent that they have. Most people over here in the UK will have only heard the three songs that the band have released over here in the UK. These being `One Step Closer', `Crawlin' and `Paper Cut'. I wouldn't say that these are the best ...

PAPERCUT starts off the CD pretty strong. A good and true style of Linkin Park, it's a story of paranoia and the "face" inside. Advantages: 12 Fantastic Tracks Disadvantages: Vocals are too good
This year, we have been introduced to some of the greater products of the US market, in the shape of both Papa Roach and Linkin Park. I think mainly due to the widespread popularity of Limp Bizkit, Offspring and Blink 182, among others who brought about a completely different fanbase. Upon arrival, Linkin Park produced us with "One Step Closer", a single which rocked the UK charts. It not only produced a great video, but it was instrumentally and ... ..."nu-metal" and "rap-metal", I have felt that Linkin Park have stood out as one of the leading bands within these two sub-genres of Rock. When I first heard the album, I had only heard "One Step Closer" and was pleasantly pleased with the album's consistency in tracks. "Crawling" is now one of my favourite songs, and with it being given great air time on MTV/Kerrang/The Box and all that, its definitely reaching out to many different areas of the music ...

Advantages: easily a better style of music Disadvantages: none
Lets face it, for me I had never heard of these guys, but saw their album on the shelf, and thought to myself, why not buy it, and so I did. What a surprise I got. Linkin Park are simply amazing, as is the album, and I would place it as one of my favourites. So now to the real stuff.
Linkin Park consists of:-
Chester Bennington on vocals
Rob Bourdon on drums and backing vocals
Brad Delson on guitars, bass and backing vocals
Joseph Hahn and records, ... ...and sampling
Their sound is very normal to me, mixing rap with a touch of heavy metal and some cool sounds that you may hear in rave. They could be compared much to Limp Bizkit, but they are much better, and have that evil quality, with some deep voice singing and great riffs.
All the songs on this album have been written by Linkin Park, which shows that they have great all round talent, who will obviously go far. Being signed up the the Warner ...

Advantages: Some excellent songs, no swearing Disadvantages: Some songs are v. Backstreet Boys esque, no swearing
I bought this album as soon as it came out, but that was several months ago, and now its suddenly seems to have been selling. Whatever you do, please don't think that Linkin Park are a heavy metal band, they are not even nu-metal. Like Limp Bizkit, papa roach and co. they lie in the one genre- pop-metal. This is not necessarily LP's fault, but after one listen to 'Hybrid Theory' you can tell why there commercial success has become so widespread. ... ...are a good overall band, so are Raging Speedhorn, but you don't see them selling millions of albums over the world. It is their 'sound', Linkin Park blend the rapping of MC Mike Shinoda, with the silky smooth vocals of singer Chester Bennington. This works very well, combined with some decent riffage and songs like 'With You', the single 'One Step Closer', 'By Myself' and 'Forgotten' stand out. The problem is they seem too clean cut. It seems unfair ...

Advantages: Totally Original Disadvantages: Look like turning into 'sell-outs'
...in September, when I bought Hybrid Theory it took me a little while to start to get used to Linkin Park. Not only have they survived longer than a month on my playlist, they have risen to nearly the top. Each song tells its own story on this CD, that is why it is so great. Disposable music, to some, as much of it is rather loud shouting, even screaming in some parts, as lead singer Chester Bennington gasps out his cries for help throughout the CD. ... ...are buying this CD for that, get ready for a ride.
The CD starts off with Papercut, a rap-rock styled tune of hidden personalities and what really is inside us all. If you listen closely to each song, listen to the guitar work and Chester's vocal expression, following the stories he tells as he sings his songs, it is truly moving. The CD continues on to One Step Closer, which I actually consider to be the low point of the CD. This song, which brought ...

Advantages: Catchy, consistant Disadvantages: None as yet....
Linkin Park seem to have many detractors at the moment, and I find it hard to see why. Many nu-metal fans have called them a boy band as all of their songs are under four minutes long and don't feature swearing, and sin of all sins, they actually get in the charts and on the radio. This album features many great tracks, with very few duff moments. Mostly up tempo, but with a solid groove and great use of sampled drums along with the main live drum ... ...nu-metal bands thata re breaking out at the moment. The useof twin vocalsist adds another dimension (although this is nothing new in itself, Shootyz Groove for example were doing that back in 1992), and the album features some great, innovative guitar work, equaling anything done by Wes Borland.
Thankfully the lyrics of both the singing parts, and the more rap orinated vocal segments never descend into the childish, self absorbed pap that Fred Durst ...

...lives up to the reality. Hybrid Theory’s 12 tracks fulfill the prophecy. Linkin Park has exploded into the forefront of the music world for good reason; the music is there! They take the best parts of each of these genres and create an explosive mix ... ...Hybrid Theory is a textbook example of great production.
