...Serve the Servants Some nice guitaring in this song. Very good when your learning to play the guitar. Simple grunge style playing but not dumbed down that must be stressed. The arrangement of this song I think is quite strong, the chorus is especially really catchy. Bland typically Nirvana guitar solo. The drumming is also quite boring. In Utero was released early 1993. After the unpredicted and phenomenal success of their first album Nevermind, Nirvana was transformed from small time grunge outfit from Seattle to megastar status headlining at the reading festival. Kurt did not approve of this newfound stardom, and as result, this anger he felt is reflected in many of the songs on 'In Utero'. ...all there is to nirvana. In utero is simply one of the greatest examples of grunge-fuelled rock and proves Nirvana weren’t a ‘one album band’. In Utero contains some of Cobains most passionate work and whilst ‘Nevermind’ is great; In Utero is just as good if not better. It is currently in my cd tray and won’t be coming out for a long time. ...about the woes of life in which everyone can relate too. It is a great opener, in which it leaves other songs to enter, without being type casted as a certain type of grunge. The music is brilliant with its scatchy guitars and the drums and bass adding depth to the song. Advantages: The darker, more emotional side of Nirvana
Disadvantages: Not given the recognition it deserves by some

...that Nevermind is long gone in Nirvana's timeline, and left instead is the more intelligent, moody, emotional masterpiece of this album. 'Scentless Apprentice' kicks off with one of the best drum intros around, and with low tuned guitars and lyrics jumping about, it sets us off well for Cobain's screaming of 'Go Away' during the chorus. ...left with a bad taste in my mouth, because as good as In Utero is, its no Nevermind ! Nevermind to me will always be THE Nirvana album. The argument is that Nevermind was to over-produced for Kurt's liking, and that In Utero's raw sound was more to his personal liking, which may be true, but it's not my opinion. ...a demo tape of work in progress rather than the actual finished, produced and engineered article. Imagine their horror as they saw their cash cow crumbling before them. This would explain the big push given to Soundgarden and Alice In Chains around that time. In a nutshell: this is a brutal heavy metal album that gives no quarter and asks for none back.
