Advantages: Showcases Queen's talent to the max. Disadvantages: Their final 'proper' studio album
Having clocked up a few miles driving during the last week or so I've had a lot of time to listen to music in the car. A quick raid on the cd collection unearthed a right royal gem, Queen's 1991 release Innuendo. Unfortunately, this was to be the last album which Freddie Mercury 'recorded' with the band, as he was to sadly pass away later on that year at a sickeningly early age. This sad event robbed the music world of one of its most unique talents ... ...even more remarkable is that, Freddie was already chronically ill during recording. A fact which was highlighted upon the albums release, when we got to see the gaunt images of Freddie in the promotional videos.
Incidentally Queen are:-
Freddie Mercury (lead vocals and keyboards)
Brian May (guitars, keyboards and vocals)
Roger Taylor (drums, percussion, keyboards and vocals)
John Deacon (Bass guitar and keyboards)
Anyway, before I begin to ...

Advantages: A fantastic finale to a glittering career Disadvantages: There will never be another like it
...Queen fan will undoubtedly list Innuendo amongst their favourite of the band’s albums. It was their final studio album recorded together before the untimely death of Freddie Mercury in 1991. Its release, earlier that year, preceded his death by only a few months. Although several Queen albums have been released since, namely “Made In Heaven”, an album containing new material, most of which, however, was cobbled together from Freddie’s ... ...of their more rock orientated tracks, I will always regard “Innuendo” as their ‘final’ album, and it is certainly a dramatic finale to their 20-year career.
Recorded whilst Freddie was seriously ill with an AIDS related illness, the album gives this away only through the strength of emotion contained within the songs – all of which became even more poignant after his death. His ill health is not revealed in any way ...

...sheer lack of energy.
Innuendo starts with the title track from the album, a song reminiscent of Bohemian Rhapsody in it's tendancy to jump from style to style weaving between upbeat and slow, all the while managing to lose the listener in a myriad of beautiful and unusual lyrics.
The song has a haunted feel to it, one that the band were no doubt keen to install in the listener, and it is all the better for it, allowing to lose yourself for the ... ...go from an epic in Innuendo to just silly in two songs. Headlong is a throwback to the bands routes, and wouldn't be out of place on one of their 1970's album. A hard track, with a thunderous rhythm, heavy on guitar with Mercury's voice fitting in well with the bizarre lyrics which seem to be telling us: It doesn't matter WHAT you sing, as long as you sing it well!:

Advantages: Wonderful final album, packed with humor and reflection Disadvantages: None
This last album from the full line up of Queen was a remarkable album when one considers Freddie Mercury was dying. The lyics of the variuos tracks all testify to a different way of feeling and all demand a closer inspection. "I'm going slighty mad" must have been Freddie's humor coming through in spite of his difficulties and "These are the dyas of our lives" sum up what many people must feel when faced with the end. The most moving track for me ...

Advantages: Strong and emotional Disadvantages: Lacks a little something from other albums
I have loved Queen ever since I saw the video for "I want it all" on Top of The Pops" in 1989 (Bloomin' 'eck, guv'nor, was it that long ago?). The combination of some of the best talent of their generation will never be forgotten. Freddie Mercury has always written and sung beautifully touching songs. Brian May can rock and some of the guitarwork he can do is absolutely out of this world. "Cornwall's legendary drummer" (as he was once announced on ... ...throaty lyrics. John Deacon, the often forgotten member, provides the songs with powerful bass (who could possibly say that "Under Pressure" for one would be the same without it?)
This, their final album as a foursome, contains one of their best works since "Bohemian Rhapsody"; "Innuendo". The song sweeps you away through many different styles all wonderfully mixed together. Freddie gives a wonderful performance, considering that he knew that he ...

Advantages: Powerful songs, Freddy never sang better Disadvantages: The end
The last album released in Freddy Mercury's lifetime "Innuendo" is an interesting collection of tracks. What is particularly striking is that this is the first Queen album not to give individual writing credits for each song. Perhaps after all the rivalry over the years the group had matured into a homogenous whole where the identity of the group was more important than any one member of it. Still, you can roughly guess who wrote what if you are ... ...twelve tracks, each with a different sound. "I'm Going Slightly Mad" has Freddy singing "I'm knitting with only one needle" with only a touch of irony. "These Are the Days Of Our Lives" is a poignant song looking back on old times. As we all know Freddy was in the last stages of dying of Aids so this gives depth and meaning to this sort of song. I also have to say that he never had sung better in his entire career giving a controlled and heartfelt ...

Advantages: As an album, this thing really works Disadvantages: But there's a couple of May-inspired duffers
...Freddie, at their very best. Innuendo features some of the most innovative tracks Queen have done and was, in many ways, a blow back to the early Seventies. The title track is nothing short of superb - a sort of Boehmian Rhapsody with guitars really, and there are other fantastic songs within. 'Delilah' is Freddie's musical joke for this album, 'The Show Must Go On' is the anthem, 'The Days Of Our Lives' is the jewel in the crown and 'The Hitman' ...
