...is very definitely a great introduction to the music of Alex Parks. Her voice is very unique and she manages to convey emotion ranging from vulnerability to strenth and everything in between, often within a single song. If I do have a criticism, it's that occasionally Alex has a little "hitch" in her voice, which is slightly off-putting for me, but other people will disagree. This brilliant first album by Alex Parks has all the great covers that we heard her sing in Fame Academy and also seven other original tracks of her own. These seven new tracks really show you that the girl has some talent in song writing and her voice throughout the album is easy to listen to. ...Alex Parks is a decent introduction to an amazing new talent. Anyone who watched BBC's Fame Academy will know that this girl can sing and write but the album smacks of 'cashing in' and was released far too quickly to be taken totally seriously. There are too many cover versions (although Mad World is one of the stand out tracks) and it is, overall, overproduced. I was a bit disappointed when I first heard this album. Having watched Alex right the way through Fame Academy and being impressed by both her singing talent and song-writing ability, I expected a collection of original songs of a similar quality to "Maybe That's What It Takes" (which I love!).
