TRAVIS MAGIC WORKS AGAIN update

Advantages: Many great tracks
Disadvantages: One or two weak points in the songs

...entertainment and listening pleasure. 'The Invisible Band' is the third album from the British band who have had several hits from their past two albums. ~ History ~ Travis released their first album in 1998 (this album was recorded in both 1997 and 1998) called Good Feeling that featured the singles of 'All I Do Is Rock' and 'Happy'. This album was described by Select Magazine as ''The most heartstoppingly-exciting album since 'Definitely Maybe'…''. ...
...The tracks ~ The Invisible Band has 12 great tracks on it, and here they are in numerical order: Update - added track descriptions and track length (at end) 1. Sing - One of the singles of the album and probably helped the launch the success of the album (along with the past performances of albums by the band). Lots of harmony in this and the guitar is used to great effect in the silent parts of the song. 8.5/10. 3.48 2. Dear Diary - This is ...

WARNING - Clearly Visible with the Naked Eye

Advantages: Great Tracks and Voice
Disadvantages: some dull links

...third album nicely titled “The Invisible Band” but this album just cements what a lot of us knew already, that this band are tops and will be around for a long time! The previous albums “Good Feeling” and “The Man Who” which became one of the most popular indie records ever follow the same sort of indie type pattern as this album. The Songs ********** The opening to the album is the top 5 hit smash “Sing”. ...
...was a great concoction. It begins the album in a freaky sort of way and when I first played it, I thought there was something wrong with it because it makes this sort of whirring, off key drone leading into bells and the great banjo accompaniment which compliments the song perfectly. The drums and guitar parts also are well polished in this track making the song sound completely polished and Fran sings rather well here not straining too much on the ...

UH..WHAT..WHERE'D THEY GO

Advantages: Some really good songs
Disadvantages: Some not so good songs

...joke at the title, ‘The Invisible Band’, just to save me having to explain it later. Anyway on with the feature presentation. This album may not exactly be the latest release, but this is Travis’s latest album and the follow up to ‘The Man Who’, something I really enjoyed when that was first released. After hearing a few of the singles off it, I decided to go and get it, they sounded as good as ever and promised a lot. ...
...top quality guitar music. ‘The Invisible Band’ is their third album, flowing up to their 1999 success ‘The Man Who’. The other members are Dougie, Neil and Andrew, all Scottish, but I wont hold that against them. On this album all the mixing and editing was done by Nigel Goodrich, and the album was released under Independent Limited. The cover and inlay includes all the lyrics (something I like), with plenty of snaps of the ...

EXCLUSIVE, The new Travis album, track-by-track

Advantages: Side, Flowers, The Cage
Disadvantages: the album dies a death after track 8

...harsh truth is that The Invisible Band have made a very transparent album. ‘The Invisible Band’ comes out next Monday, 11th June. Finally, as promised, the lyrics to ‘Side’. Enjoy! Oh I believe there's someone watching over you They're watching every single thing you say And when you die they'll sit you down and take you through You'll realise one day how (BRIDGE) The grass is always greener on the other side Neighbour's ...

Advantages: More Of The Same Good Stuff.
Disadvantages: Much More Of The Same Good Stuff.

...immense. Thankfully 'The Invisible Band' more or less succeeds. There are no radical departures from 'The Man Who..'. The chorus' are immediate, the guitar riffs are amazingly tuneful and the potential haul of future singles is close to innumerable. Well worth shelling out for then, you might say. Well, em yes I guess so. 'The Invisible Band' is never less than a pleasant listen but sometimes too much sweetness can lead to a decaying interest. Something ...
...straightforward gratification. 'The Invisible Band' is decorated by a lush carpet of jangling guitar parts that often rescue the tunes they belong to from obscurity. Just as you begin to lose interest a rich chord grabs your attention. On the few occasions ('The Cage') Travis resort to an acoustic avenue to deliver their message you can only stand back and appreciate Healy's accomplished vocal inflection. When Travis can be bothered to stray from ...

Helps with the Writer's Block

Advantages: Easy to listen to, excellent lyrics, good musical accompaniment, great album to work to
Disadvantages: None really, apart from the fact that there were only 12 tracks

"The Invisible Band" never fails to impress me each time I put it in to play. With every listen, I discover something new about the amazingly deep lyrics of Travis, and I'm left in wonder at the abundantly vivid images portrayed. The music will leave you asking for more, but the 12 tracks present on this album sufficiently whet your appetite. Travis truly are in sparkling form with this release. This is a very good album to just chill out to after ...
...such a tracklist. On "The Invisible Band", Travis offer a good collection of songs that will appeal to you in different ways, and you'll perceive each one in a new light depending on your mood and when you listen to it. Instantly Likeable: Sing, Side, Flowers in the Window Watch Out For: Last Train, Indefinitely, The Humpty Dumpty Love Song Sing: A great way to kick off the album. This is an instantly recognisable song on the radio. With its simple ...

THE INVISIBLE BAND, Travis

Advantages: Great lyrics
Disadvantages: Can sound monotonous

Forgive me as I write this opinion as I’m listening, as I’m writing this op on a ‘first-listen’ basis, so the opinion may seem fragmented into ‘tracks’. The album begins with ‘Sing’, which is inevitable considering it’s success in the charts. This, to say the least, is very uplifting to say the least, whilst, similar to Toploader, is great to relax to. Track two, ‘Dear Diary’, is ...
...to concentrate on the lyrics, as the very penetrating sound rattles through my head. To be honest, the piercing sound of a faint electric guitar is very monotonous to say the least, and the 2.57 length of this track couldn’t be any shorter. Track three, ‘Side’, is considerably more uplifting, and sounds very similar to ‘Sing’, in the sense that the guitar, played by the lead singer, Fran Healey along with his original ...

Travis aren't Invisible

Advantages: some good tracks
Disadvantages: a few weaker tracks

'The Invisible Band' is the third album offering from Travis following the debut album 'Good Feeling' and the top selling 'The Man Who'. The third release from the Glaswegian band offers no experimentation from the standard indie/pop that has served them so well in the past and to all intents and purposes continues in the same vein as 'The Man Who'. ----------------- Track-by-Track ----------------- 1. Sing - The album begins with ‘Sing’ ...
...5. A very melodic track with classic guitars and chorus which is easy to sing along to. All Travis fans will love this one, and it is one of the best tracks on the album. The bells and the banjo accompaniment compliment the song very effectively. 2. Dear Diary - This track is particularly eerie and the piercing electric guitar sound drones on and on. It is mellow and pretty at best but after listening a few times becomes very dull. It is very relaxing ...

...you've slept with all my men

Advantages: Travis' finest collection of material yet
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little too resigned in places

...is perhaps in order. ‘The Invisible Band’ is Travis’ first album since the massive selling ‘The Man Who’, which transformed them from forgotten post Britpop darlings, who once attracted the praise of one Noel Gallagher to superstars in their own right. 1997s debut ‘Good Feeling’ captured a youthful band with a schizophrenic sound. One minute they were glam rockers thrashing out scuzzy pop such ‘U-16 ...
...from The La’s debut. ‘The Invisible Band’ instead largely follows the model created by its predecessor. Despite denials from the band during the recording process, ‘The Invisible Band’ is at least in part “The Man Two” or at best a close sister to their second LP. The album opens with ‘Sing’, which is no doubt all over your radio like a rash as you read this. Developing out of a controlled wave ...

I can see through them

Advantages: "Side" is a brilliant track
Disadvantages: Monotonous - sounds exactly like "The Man Who"

...band releasing their follow-up, “The Invisible Band”. So what were Travis going to treat us to this time? A rock opera like “Bohemian Rhapsody” or had they followed Radiohead’s adventurous side and come up with their own “Kid A”? Well no unfortunately: as the saying goes “If it ain’t broke – don’t fix it” and the band seemed to have stuck with the same winning formula. The first things I noticed when I got this album was that the cover and booklet ...
...The problem with “The Invisible Band” is that it should have really been titled “The Man Who Part II”. If you really liked their previous album then I guarantee you will think this is brilliant too. Fran is obviously an excellent song-writer as “Side”, “Follow The Light” and “Flowers in the Window” bear testament – unfortunately “Afterglow” and “Last Train” are poor in comparision. This isn’t my main gripe about this album – it’s the way it sounds. ...

Advantages: Same old Travis
Disadvantages: Same old Travis

...with their new album, The Invisible Band. It’s not a radical departure, of course, but it is an evolution that the fiercest and woolly-eared music critics have failed to spot. This will not be enough to put off the millions who bought The Man Who in 1999, but may slightly annoy the early fans who yearn for the band to plug their guitars back in. You know how it begins, it’s the bastard child of Writing To Reach You and Turn, now christened ...
...it easily fits on The Invisible Band. I think that Godrick’s best work on the album is on this track, the subtle little sounds he offers in his trademark style. Andy Dunlop’s guitar work is again subtle and understated. This song had been lost for years until recently and thank God the band found it because it is one of the best tracks on the album. The fact that it has the same old repetition in the chorus might not appeal to Travis ...

The not so Invisible Side of music

Advantages: Mellow, Amazing,
Disadvantages: Boring to some, Lacks inidividuality

...their eagerly awaited new album Invisible Band, and what an excellent piece of work it is. If you have ever heard the previous albums, Good Feeling and The Man Who, you might not enjoy this album as much, the songs don't have a lot of individuality and there isn't much to tell it apart from anything else in the market of a similar genre. That said there are 3 songs that really do stick out on this album. Sing is one the songs you will have heard ...
...and why not, it is a superb song. It does bare a lot of similarities to Turn, but if it aint broke? Next up is Side, a fantastically written song that hopefully will be released in the near future. Probably the best song on the album in many people's eyes, Side has a wonderfully mellow tune, and you will sing along to it, that comes as standard with the Travis package. Flowers in the Window makes you feel alive, it reminds me of almost a 60's hippy ...

...can be said of 'The Invisible Band', but with greater conviction. When I first listened to this album, and bear in mind that I loved 'The Man Who', I thought it was poor. The songs seemed to merge into one dreary mess, and I was so disappointed. But, I cannot think of any album that has grown on me more, and so quickly too, than this has. All 12 tracks are listed below. 1. Sing: The first release off the album. Sing has been compared to 'Turn', a track from the first album. The tunes are pretty much the same and they're both great.
