Advantages: Good extreme metal moments, combined with some strong radio-friendly tunes. Disadvantages: Silly bloody lyrics.
...satisfying album. Instead, the 18-legged Iowa Hate Machine decided to release an album that ups the ante considerably. It’s faster and heavier in place than the last album, but also more measured in places.
“[515]” is first up; there’s not much to say here, it’s a minute of screaming set to a dull electronic throb. It goes on for just long enough that, as you reach for the skip button on your CD player, the next track ... ...proper begins. Opening with more anguished screaming and blast-beats that belong more on a Cradle Of Filth record, Vocalist Corey Taylor’s first utterance sums up the track perfectly: “Here we go again, motherf***er!” Brutal and focussed, you really couldn’t ask for a better opening salvo. After that song, track three “Disasterpeice” would have to work hard to maintain that pace. It tries, but ultimately fails, ...

Advantages: Lots of bangers Disadvantages: Nothing specific
Taking its name from the band’s home state, “Iowa” came as the second album from the Alternative Metal band SlipKnot in 2001. The band, who had a largely unchanged line-up this time when compared to what was seen with their 1999 debut, come with more hardcore Nu-Metal, and do so during the peak years of the sub-genres duration in the Alternative Metal game. 1. “(515)” (Intro) 2. “People = S**t” After a rather dark, scream-filled introduction, we ... ...is bound to excite their fans as they come out with a burst of Rap metal that is seen to be a bit of a development from where they began things with their debut as they take on additional influences in order to help to put their message across in a manner that seems to fit in with the rage that they come out with in their music. **Five Stars** 3. “Disasterpiece” The pace is lifted, along with the intensity, and I felt that it was nice to give a relevant ...

Advantages: Some excellent songs, should satisfy most fans Disadvantages: Too many rap songs, too many 'hip' rhymes
Iowa is, in the world of nu-metal, probably the most anticipated album of the entire year. Slipknot’s second, self-titled album, released in 1999 was a huge success and an important moment in rock history. This is not because of Slipknot’s apparently shocking stage behaviour, involving the smelling of decomposing birds to induce vomiting, the punching of their own fans, the coin toss to decide whether the clown mask or the gas mask gets ... ...us to the present. Iowa.
Iowa is where the band grew up and handily doubles up as their idea of hell. It’s easier to write about hell when you’ve been (Eh, Slayer?), so you’d think this would be another great album. Kerrang called Iowa the best thing to happen to heavy music this year. Producer Ross Robinson said that it resembled death metal. Corey said to expect blastbeats, grindcore and lots of black metal sickness. All were ...

There is a track on it self titled "IOWA" which lasts 15 minutes and is an impressive re-make of "killers are quiet" from the first album! 1.(515)-This is the first track on the album and it is very wierd in deed just like the start on the other album it features screaming! 2. ...and they all come from Iowa in America.
The Album:
Well since their last album slipknot really have improved. In this album there is actual singing Aswell as plenty of screaming, which is a definite improvement on the last album! and the tracks actual seem to have a half decent beat to them. Compared to the last album the members all play the music synchronised together, and they don’t just all make as much noise as possible. All the guitaring ... ...very skilled there is no doubt about it, and the way they play the guitars together makes a very unique sound. However in some parts of the album the sound of guitars does become somewhat overwhelming. The guitarists themselves could not improve as they are all very good, although they could properly improve the way in which they play together in certain parts of the album.
The vocalists are not always what I would describe as talented. I mean anyone ...

Although I don't usually buy albums this...'freakish', this album had been recommended by all my friends. After putting the cd into the drive, I started to regret buying the disc, men making strange shouts and grunts wasn't my idea of music, but luckily the next track was People = Sh*t, which is a great song, it's let down a little by the chorus, it's more shouting than music. After that, it's disasterpiece, it conforms to Slipknot's usual standard ... ...as good as the previous track. The next to tracks are great, Everything Ends and The Heretic Anthem fu

...the Heretic Anthem, from the Iowa album, and the lyrics were, in fact "six six six" - which I guess is a devil reference (not very subtle eh?)
I've also learned more about the roles of each band member, but still fail to see why 3 percussionists couldn't make a better job on what seemed to me to be a very basic piece of music. I apologise for not writing more about the music itself. You know, a detailed review of the album, and so on. That's because ... ...but it somehow managed to be all of the following things: nothing special / boring / noisy / predictable.
Predictable in more than one way, actually. In the sense that the music offered no surprises whatsoever, and never seemed to even promise any.
But also predictable in a far more serious way: if Slipknot ended up sounding just like I expected they would, what does that say about how predictable they are in general? And why would I want to hear ...

...Slipknot for a year before Iowa came out. I got into them through their light song Wait and Bleed (a testament to Corey’s true vocal ability). After buying the album, I realised that Wait and Bleed was unique to Slipknot in its radio-friendly sound, and I left the album in a forgotten corner of my room, with the intention to never listen to it again. To me, it was just shouting. No tune. No reason to be popular, and I began to wonder what it was ... ...is a simple structure, yet Iowa is the most complex song on the album. It goes on for a full 15 minutes (perhaps a bit too long maybe?), and is not like anything you could expect or imagine.
Before I finish, I am sure that with the examples of lyrics that I have given you, you may believe that they are all simple and childish. They are not. Here is a small part from My Plague to prove how deep some of the lyrics get. Corey is not as dumb as some ...

I became a Slipiknot about a year ago and have been following them ever since. The only thing which frustrated me about them was their lack of material. Two albums have been released as Slipknot but only the second had the current line up. Therefore, their live sets were always really short because they had nothing to play!
With 'Iowa' they have done something very hard to do on a second album (becasue it is really only their second) they have kept ... ...next level. 'Iowa' is a nastier, more brutal, hard-edged death metal record but it is still uniquely Slipknot. Stand out tracks are 'The Heretic Anthem' a track with great riff and A shout along chorus and also 'Everything Ends' because of its raw energy. However, there are many other brilliant tracks on this album, In short, buy it. ...

Slipknot - the Kings Of Metal (all nine of ’em) have finally released the long-awaited follow up to ‘Slipknot’. And ‘Iowa’ will not disappoint. As long as you like ear-splitting, blood curdling, nerve shattering, hair raising metal, that is. Oh, and goats are optional, in case you were wondering.

And a masterpiece it is. ‘People = S**t’ has got the most gruesomely heavy of intros (the drums! the drums!), while ‘The Heretic Song’ has got the catchiest of sing-along choruses – “If you’re five five five / Then I’m six six six” shrieks singer Corey. Familiar themes crop up – pessimism in the riff-tastic ...

Advantages: Corey's lyrics, Excellent Music Disadvantages: may offend some..?
When Slipknot emerged with their mysterious masks and offensive ways the world seemed to be at their feet, everyone adored Slipknot, they released this album, Iowa, in my opinion at the peek of their career, this is Slipknot at their best. The lyrics are not stupid and silly regardless of what other reviews say, i mean if the reviewer hasn't experienced pain or hurt in their life then i see no reason for them to be drawn to music of this nature, ... ...purposely blatant, and at others his words could be taken to mean so many deep and imaginative things. The music is amazing. Guitarists Mick and James have done an ace job on this album, the guitar tone is perfect. It's deep and nicely distorted to suit the style that Knot play. Drummer Joey Jordison is the most skilled drummer in the world, listening to this record will back up my words. The album kicks off with an eiree intro track named '(515)'. ...

Advantages: A Few good songs, Shows off slipknot to their full potential Disadvantages: Not their best album to have been released, shows that old is better than new, fans may be disapointed
First of all, lets give u the insight into this 9 piece iowan band. they started in a small town in 1995 and released 2 albums, slipknot and mate feed kill and repeat. I Bought this product because the last 2 slipknot albums were trumendous in their own right n they provided most metal fans with somthing different, this however is a average album n will only really appeal to most die hard slipknot fans as the only really 2 good tracks are " left behind " and " the shape " although the 2001 version of " gently " works well from the mate feed kill repeat version. Advantages: Good drumming, powerful sound Disadvantages: SOme songs are cheesy
I bought Iowa by Slipknot as soon as it came out cause i wanted to know if it was gonna be as good as their first cd. The album starts off with the usual weird intro and then launches into the best song on the cd, people=shit, this song is typical slipknot because it has fast drumming and a great guitar riff, the vocals don't really add much but overall it is a great song, then as the album went on i started to notice how many sing along bits and ... ...little dissapointed as slipknot had said that this was going to be a really heavy album. Cheesy songs such as "left behind" and "new abortions" should have been left off because they get boring really quick and are very mainstream, they have the fast drumming but the guitar riffs are weak and sound like they were stolen from Slayer, the singer trys to rap and scream at the same time on a lot of songs which is as lame as it sounds. Advantages: Brilliant hate-filled music Disadvantages: slightly linear
Slipknot, showing the world that hate and anger are brilliant subjects for writing songs.
Slipknot has a lot of members, and you can hear them all in this album, each doing their bit to contribute to the overall (amazing) sound produced. You gotta love it.
The anger displayed isn't discriminating at all, as the hate is directed at everybody (People = Shit). The overall sound is sinister and destructive, and makes you feel that the band are probably ... ...at night.
It all sounds awesome and stuff, but the album isn't too varied, it all sounds not the same but similar; fortunately that similar is something that sounds good.
The drumming is postively visceral, the guitaring harsh and uncaring, the bass sending subliminal messages that you're going to get brutally slaughtered and the singing makes you think nobody cares about you and the whole planet is out to kill you.
My personal favourite track ...
